A/N: Thank you for those who reviewed, followed, and favorited my story. Your reviews give me life. I know everyone was a little confused by the last two chapters, but it all will make sense. All of it is necessary to build more background to come for later chapters in the story. But many of my reviewers are right to think Doctor Strange, which is the only hint I'm giving, so without further ado. Read and enjoy my lovelies.
I'M BACK
Dusty eyelashes fluttered opened, hazy cerulean eyes came into focus to the world around. Greeted with a view of inky blackness panic started to filter through her system until realization made her chuckle. It was her hair obstructing her view. She moved the hair from her face and with her view no long obstructed, she now saw that she was in her living room facing the western wall with its kanji and butterfly etchings. A pained moan escaped plump pink lips as she felt pure-ty numbness in her butt from sitting in her meditation pose for so long.
"Aiya!" Once on her feet, she massaged her poor glutes.
'I knew I should have chose to lay down instead. Dang how long was I there?'
It took but a moment to orientate herself back to the current world, once she felt back in straits physically and spiritually. She waved her hands out and the orbs that had been there a moment before were now gone. She walked across the room, her steps light as a feather. The shoji door to her bathroom slid open. The digital clock on the countertop had the date and her jaw dropped looking at it.
"Only an hour has passed—Huh, well who says you can't achieve enlightenment in less than a day," she murmured finding the knowledge that so little time had passed humorous.
She glanced at her reflection and her eyes widened considerably.
'I guess time did pass in a sense.'
Her hand touched her bangs that at one time had been midway down her face now rested atop her bosom while the rest was nearly at her ankles. Her body while still honed with muscles was more lean in the stomach department, like she hadn't ate a good meal in years. As she leaned on the counter to get a closer look at her face, she could see the flecks of pink stars, as well as the ring of luminous gold that edged around her cerulean eyes and she was reminded of her last moments in Takamahara.
"Kagome, your time here draws near. Many things are about to unfold, we've done our best to prepare you. Your mind has expanded to see past the boundary of normal humans, your body disciplined to fight and protect the mightiest of creatures, your spirit strengthened to endure all things. However, only you can determine where you future lies," her sensei from the world of thoughts spoke.
"When you return, you will see that we've left a gift for you. You will truly be able to see the inner workings of life around you. We hope that our gifts helps you in the long adventure set before you," her sensei from Takamahara spoke sending her a soft smile.
"We shall miss you very much so young one."
She could see what both of her senseis meant now.
Looking past her reflection at the modern bathroom, she pursed her lips and turned around. The moderness was gone, in its place was a cavern lit with hundreds of candles in the back drop. In the center of the cavern was a large steamy, hot spring. She smiled walking towards it stripping off her clothes as she moved. Walking up the stone steps she dipped a toe in before walking into the steaming water.
A sigh left her lips, feeling all the tension fade away from her.
"Oh my I definitely missed these," it had been the one thing money couldn't provide her with from her home country.
Thirty minutes later she was standing in her room, much more relaxed. She used magic to whip her hair into an intricate french braid. She'd cut the middle of her bangs back to their original length, but left the outer bangs longs. Currently she was looking through her wardrobe hoping to find something befitting to where, but none of it was what she wanted. Then again her wardrobe reflected the most recent two years of her life and not the time-traveling miko she'd been. Not that her outfits back then had been as befitting of her station either. A small smile touched her lips remembering her sailor fuka uniform she'd worn traipsing all throughout the feudal era countryside.
She remembered Inuyasha even yelling at her once that she'd looked like a cheap prostitute and how his Kikyo would never go around like that, and of course her sitting him into oblivion while their friends watched from the sidelines.
Honestly she'd only worn it because to her the uniform was an integral part of her life in the future.
A reminder of where she truly belonged.
"I need something to reflect the new me as well as honor the past," and as if something clicked in her head she moved over to the full length mirror across her bedroom.
Standing in front of it she closed her eyes, her lips began to utter words.
She began to twirl in a full circle, stopping on the seventh twirl and opened her eyes to glance at her reflection. No longer naked she was now clad in a new outfit. It was a unique outfit that had just the right touch of dandiness to it. Kagome posed childishly in the mirror before giggling at her quirkiness. Tony would definitely understand her unusual and slightly extravagant get-up.
'Which reminds me,' she whipped out her phone and paged J.A.R.V.I.S. She asked him to send her Tony's location that it was urgent she see him.
"I am sending you his exact coordinates now Miss Kagome," J.A.R.V.I.S. informed her.
It felt like several lifetimes since she'd heard the AI's voice.
She left out of her apartment taking the steps two at a time. Mrs. Wangsooksaroen, her landlady, aka Mrs. Wang was standing at the bottom of the steps. As she looked upon her, Kagome was taken aback by what she saw. Mrs. Wang is an older woman, in her late sixties with a face full of wrinkles, but her eyes are very much filled with youth. She'd always been kind to Kagome, treating her like one would a favored granddaughter.
Once Mrs. Wang had even shared with Kagome that her Ji-chan would always hold a special place in her heart as her first love.
It had been surprising to know that her grandfather had been a player back in the day, but Mrs. Wang said she loved him anyways. He'd been a thug, rebelling from his parents ideas of him being a proper Shinto priest and that he even had almost joined the yakuza, It wasn't until Kagome's grandmother came along that her Ji-chan changed and stolen his heart from Mrs. Wang.
Not that Mrs. Wangsooksaroen was resentful, because of their break-up she'd met the second love of her life and current husband of forty plus years. But that isn't what held her attention, no it was what hovered over the elder woman's head.
It was ball-shaped and white. Suddenly eyes appeared and a large mouth appeared and it smiled before having the nerve to stick out an overly large tongue and blow a raspberry her way.
'Argh why I aughta!'
She was drawn from her outrage at the disrespectful thing, by Mrs. Wang's voice.
"Oh Kagome, just in time I made you fresh batch on Oden with pork just the way you like it," she said holding out a batch already packed to-go.
Ignoring the little weird thing for now, she assumed he was apart of what her teacher had said. The gift to see things others could not.
"Aww thanks, I was just about to get some too," she took the offered food, kissing her cheek in thanks. She also placed a large wad of cash into her hand.
"Oh no this is too—" Mrs. Wang was ready to turn down the money.
"Ah think nothing of it, you're always looking out for me. Plus I'm going on a little vacation so my rent is in their too," she said refusing to take the money back.
Knowing she wouldn't take it back Mrs. Wang conceded, "Fine, be safe out there Kagome. The world is a crazy place these days," she said. She muttered about gods being on earth, robot man in New York, and a green monster of destruction.
Kagome nodded, but giggled on the inside.
'If she thinks this world is crazy she should see where I've been. Then again with that thing floating above her head who knows.'
As she entered into the the restaurant she could see that it wasn't just Mrs. Wang who had them either, rather almost all of them did. She wondered what they were, but just as the question came her sensei supplied an answer.
'Spriggits, they are reflections of a human's heart. They exist in an inter-dimension that runs parallel to the spiritual plane. Mrs. Wangsooksaroen while old, has a youthful and playful heart. Her spriggit is the same way if a little more mischievous. But beware my pupil for while her spriggit is good not all are. Some are evil while some are simply lost. If you can, you must help them to find the light for a spriggit that falls into true despair will warp and be given the power to affect their soul on the spiritual plane.'
She nodded her head in understanding.
'I will master.'
All of the spriggits in the restaurant seemed fine, although one was currently swinging from the chinese ball lanterns hanging above. One look sent its way had it scurrying back to its owner.
As she left out of the restaurant and her apartment building, she breathed in the New York air and wanted to spit the air back out. The air back in Takamahara had been pure, here it was all exhaust and human waste.
Kagome had been traveling along the divine roads for many, many, many years before she'd found her first sensei. Even then it had taken nearly a decade before she'd been able to master the thought world, let alone the time spent to reach her actually destination which was Takamahara and her second sensei. If she had to take a gander it had probably been close to three centuries for her at least in the spiritual sense.
Despite her enlightenment, there were still things that wouldn't always make sense, but at least now her mind's door was open. She saw a couple walking by and noticed the male's spriggit was posturing before the female's spriggit, while the female's spriggit acted shy and hid behind the woman's pants leg.
It was cute. But she shook herself, learning well from her first sensei not to get so lost in her thoughts. It seemed so far away in her mind those days of panic that she'd worry about a stray thought conjuring her worst nightmare, but she was back in her world where specific laws were in place.
While she could bend those laws with her magic, the world itself could not do it freely. Veering off to the right side of the restaurant she headed straight for the alleyway.
A person passing by had to do a double take as one second a woman in weird clothing was standing there and the next gone. He shook his head obviously seeing things, while Kagome reappeared walking out of a dark corner of the hallway and through a set of glass doors where she saw Tony, Thor, and legendary Bruce Banner aka the Hulk sitting.
"Hey Tony, I'm back!"
