Chapter Six
It was strange having Harrison on board, the atmosphere became so tense that it was very hard to concentrate on M'Ress' work. That was her mother's killer down there, he hunted her step-father and he managed to hurt her as well. She wanted to rip him apart and taste his blood, this blood lust made it difficult to conceal the claws that refused to sheath. She felt extremely volatile. It was like something else was taking over her, she never got this agitated. Not even when she'd first seem the murderer did she feel so angry.
She gulped as she felt a tremble of pure anger run through her, she needed to see him, to figure out why he killed her mother. She wanted to hurt him. With this the only coherent thought in mind, she got up from her station and headed down to where she knew he was being held. Her eyes flickered from one guard to another, wondering how she was going to get past them to talk to her prey. Luck was on her side however when the captain sent them away and proceeded to interrogate the man known as John Harrison.
M'Ress waited impatiently for him to leave, the doctor was the last to leave after staring in confusion after his captain. She licked my lips as she saw her opening and took it, knowing that the guards were going to be back soon. M'Ress smiled at the man sat behind the com, as he turned to face her she knocked him out without much remorse. She could explain later.
M'Ress walked closer to Harrison who was watching me with curiosity. She grinned, baring my fangs at him.
"Do you know who I am?" M'Ress asked, coming to a stop right in front of the glass he was trapped behind.
He blinked at her, feigning disinterest. "I'm afraid I do not." The false politeness was not lost on her.
"I am M'Ress." She hissed, ears flickering back in anger. "You killed my mother. And now I'm going to kill you." All rational thought had left her head, the only thing she could do was curse herself at failing to kill him when I had the chance. It would take some explaining and maybe an escape on my part but the thirst for revenge would be satisfied and she wouldn't be able to rest until it had been.
Harrison smirked. "You cannot reach me in here." There was no fear in his voice and this made her even angrier. Was she not intimidating? She knew she was as many of her colleges found it difficult to talk to her.
M'Ress smirked at him, before reaching over to type in a code that would let her in and not let him out. Her fingertips on the glass would be enough to get her back out of there. He smirked back at her and before she knew it, he was sending a punch at her, not to knock her out, but to imprison her within his grip. M'Ress was smart enough to jump back from his reaching hands and threw her own punch back at her, sending him crashing into the opposite wall.
"Why did you kill her!" M'Ress screamed, claws extended and aiming for his face. He caught her hand in his and twisted. She screeched in pain and anger, twisting her hand even more to get it out of his strong grip. She hissed at him, lunging forwards to bite him. Her sharp fangs would be enough to make him stop breathing, of this she was sure of.
He calmly avoided her attack, reaching up to grab at her sensitive ears and pulled. She screamed in pain again, unable to move out of fear he would rip them off. The anger tripled inside of her and Harrison could see this as he carefully lent down to whisper in her ear.
"I killed her... because I could." This was the final straw for M'Ress, if you think she was mad before that was nothing to how she was now. She shifted so that she was able to attack him properly, even with her ears in his hands. She growled and clawed at him, her claws managing to break skin and leave a huge claw mark down his chest. His eyes showed his shock which then melted into anger. He pulled her ears and she clawed him again, managing to break free of his grip as he reached to touch his wounds.
"That was unwise." He told her before fighting her properly, there was no holding back in this fight. She swung to knock his head off of his shoulders, missing as he ducked and sent a powerful punch to her stomach which left her gasping for breath. M'Ress was now in control of her anger, the intense rage that had been building was now one of her strengths. She used this to wrap her tail around his body and quite literally push him away from her. She clawed and bit him with all of her strength, breaking skin every time. But somehow he didn't slow down.
It was like he couldn't actually feel the pain from her attacks although she could see the blood dripping down his clothes. They continued to fight, smashing each other into their opposite walls, M'Ress was tiring fast and she knew that as soon as she stopped fighting she'd never get another chance to get revenge for her mother. She raised her paw to strike again but was stopped at the sound of the door opening.
She'd completely forgotten about the guards outside. When she was distracted, Harrison took his opportunity to smack her head, hard, against the wall. Her eyes rolled backwards in her head, and when she was fully unconscious, Harrison pushed her hand against the glass, smiling when she was able to get through.
Although he would have loved to kill her then and there, he needed the Captain to trust him. He couldn't get out with her as the glass would only let her through so he just pushed her out so that she was leaning on the glass. Luckily for him it no longer let her through so he went back to his position of sitting on the hard bed and waiting for Kirk to come back to him.
He would.
Once he realised what was in those missiles, there was no chance that he wouldn't let his humanity get in the way and demand to know why they were there. Humans were so predictable.
It didn't take long for Kirk to come back, he walked in with his second in command, Lieutenant Spock and the Medical doctor, McCoy. He came to a sudden stop as soon as he stepped into the room, taking into account the downed M'Ress and the man at the com who she'd knocked out earlier, whose name was Pierson. "Get me tapes." He murmured to Spock, who nodded and got out his Padd.
McCoy immediately went over to the downed Caitian, taking her pulse and glaring at Harrison as he did so.
"What happened?" Kirk demanded, stepping over Pierson and checking that he was alright. Apart from a head wound he was going to be fine. McCoy picked up M'Ress and called for the guards to grab Pierson and take him to medical bay to be looked over.
"Self defence." Harrison drawled.
Kirk narrowed his eyes, not believing the man for a second until Spock handed him the Padd. His eyes widened in shock as he saw M'Ress voluntarily step into the cell. Why would she do something so stupid? She had been beaten by him before, what made her think she could beat him this time? Kirk pushed the thought out of his mind, he would question her later, but for now he had pressing matters to deal with.
Like the man who found frozen in the missile that he had been instructed to fire at the man standing in front of him.
Behind the glass, Harrison stood up and began to spin his tale.
M'ress woke up with a throbbing headache, she tried to put a hand to her head to stop the pain but she found that her hands had been tied to the posts of the bed. She blinked rapidly and tried to pull her arms free, when she was unsuccessful she growled to herself.
"You're not going to break out of that." Kirk informed her. "Klingon's couldn't so I doubt you could."
"Why am I tied up?" She asked angrily.
"Why did you go into Khan's cell?" He shot back, sitting in the chair next to her bed.
She grimaced and shuffled a little to get more comfortable. "He did something to me that was unforgivable." She admitted.
Kirk's eyes remained hard and cold. "Why did you go into Khan's cell?" He repeated.
"He killed my mother."
At this Kirk's breath left him, he folded his arms over his stomach and sank deeper in the chair before reaching up to rub a hand over his face. "Are you sure?"
She smirked sadly. "He went after my step-father as well. He told me that John Harrison was after him and that was who had killed my mother."
Kirk sighed. "Alright, I understand your anger. But that doesn't give you the right to step into a cell with a Starfleet prisoner and attempt to kill him."
M'Ress growled. "What would you do?"
Kirk lent forwards angrily. "He killed Pike! I'm in the same situation." His words were threaded with his anger, causing M'Ress to flinch back slightly. "But I have more control over myself."
M'Ress snorted a laugh. "Is that why you lost complete control of yourself when we captured him?"
He clenched his jaw. "That's completely different."
"How? Because you're the Captain?" She hissed.
He slammed a hand on her bed, dangerously close to her limbs. "You are being issued with a formal warning, and you're being sent back to engineering. Ensign."
Her jaw dropped open at the lowering of her rank. "You're not serious!"
He nodded stiffly and got up. "Get back to work as soon as possible." He left without another word.
"Damn it!" She screeched, making a few of the other patients cringe away from her. They hadn't heard what she and the Captain had spoken about but they could see the obvious distress on her face. They didn't want to be apart of it. McCoy came over and undid her restraints, before giving her an injection which made her headache disappear.
She was too distraught to be polite to him, and therefore didn't see the pitying gaze he sent her.
