The air was warm, and the silence inviting. Katherine was comfortable. More comfortable than she had ever been, actually.

She was curled up into Jack's chest, laying on a pile of blankets on the floor. Jack was rubbing her back in circles with one hand, and with the other, he was twirling her hair between his fingers. Normally, this would feel like a waste of time for her. She always liked to be moving and being productive. She was never one to stop and smell the roses, but in this moment, she was perfectly content in the laziness.

Laying there in the silence. Normally, Katherine hated the silence, unless she was working. She always thought it felt cold and stiff. She wanted to be talking, interacting, doing things. In this moment, the silence was what she needed. The silence made her feel safe, warm, protected. And normally, that would make her feel uncomfortable. The fact that she found safety and comfort in one person, and one person alone, would make her feel uneasy.

But this was Jack, and Jack was different. Jack made her feel like a different person... a better person. And that is why she loved him so much.
