It has been far too long since I last updated and I am entirely too blame for that I am so sorry for the long wait, I have been battling depression for month's now I never meant to be gone as a long as I was. I've had to deal with a lot of shit this year including the death of my beloved dog, which took a massive toll on my mental and emotional state. However, I am proud to announce that I have found happiness and motivation again. I'm also very proud to announce that today (May 20th, 2014) is the one year anniversary of LaWJH, it has been year since I published the story of FanFiction. I'm so proud of what this story has achieved and I never expected to have such a big following. I'd like to thank anyone who has been with the story throughout it's first year; weather you followed the story, favorited it, reviewed a chapter, or even just read a chapter you have played a role in this stories life and for that I thank you sincerely. If there was every any doubt that this story would continue I will tell you right now that if I ever feel I need to stop writing and end the story for good you will all be the first too know. I made a promise not to let LaWJH die and I will stay true to my word. I also have the first chapter of another story I planned on uploading in the future done. If I get enough demand I will upload the first chapter. Lastly, in honor of LaWJH's one year anniversary not only is this chapter the longest chapter so far I also added a little surprise at the end of the chapter that lots of readers have been asking for. Chapter 6

Humphrey's POV:

The week seemed to go by extremely slowly. The news of an Omega dating an Alpha was the talk of the school. There was not a wolf in the entire school that didn't know about the relationship between Kate and I. Around the other Omega's I was treated like a celebrity, I couldn't go a day without getting a congratulations from someone.

after school on Thursday I walked to my truck to find Kate leaning against it. She was wearing a white T-shirt and a pair of short denim shorts.

"Hi handsome, do you think you could give me a ride home after your swimming team tryout?" Kate asked.

I smiled at her and opened the door to the passengers side.

"You must be Humphrey, Hutch told me you'd be coming by" Coach Wright said, as he stood up and walked towards me with his hand extended.

"Well we're excited to see what you can bring too the team, go ahead and get changed Hutch and the rest of the team are just getting warmed up" Coach Wright said.

"Sure thing Coach, see you out there" I said, before going to get changed.

After I exited the change room I saw Kate sitting on a bench chatting with Coach Wright, I walked over to them and Coach turned his attention to me.

"You ready?" He asked.

"As I'll ever be" I replied.

"Excellent" Coach Wright said, before blowing his whistle.

The other members of the team quickly exited the pool and walked forwards.

"Listen up! This is Humphrey Ashcroft he's trying out for the team I want you all to get to know him and show him the ropes; Hutch since it was your idea too invite him I want you to mentor him, understood?" Coach Wright asked.

"Yes sir!" Hutch replied. "Good, now Humphrey since you're new to this I think we should take things slow today. You have five and a half minutes to swim from one side of the pool and back again, don't worry if you don't make it in that time. I just want to see if you can do it" Coach Wright told me.

"Sure thing coach, I'll do my best" I said.

"Good luck Humphrey!" Kate called.

I smiled back at her, before climbing onto a podium and putting my goggles on.

"You can start when I blow the whistle, push yourself as hard as you can but know your limits" Coach Wright said.

I waited patiently for the whistle to go off, finally I heard the shrill scream of the whistle.

I quickly dove off of the podium and into the cool water, I kicked my feet and swung my arms hard, determined too beat the five minutes Coach set for me. When I came to the other end of the pool I ducked underwater, spun around, and kicked off of the wall propelling myself back towards the end I started at.

As I got closer Kate and the other members of the swim team began to cheer for, finally I reached the end of the pool.

Coach Wright grabbed my hand and helped me out of the pool.

"4 minutes and 59 seconds, not bad kid. Not bad at all" The Coach told me.

"Thank you sir" I said. The others ran up and patted me on the back.

"Nice job Humphrey!" Hutch said.

"Okay give him some space to breath! Humphrey you're free to go Hutch or myself will get back you after myself and the assistant coaches have reviewed your performance. Good luck" Coach Wright told me.

"Thank you very much Coach Wright I look forwards from hearing from you guys. See ya later Hutch!" I said before shaking Coach Wright's hand and waving to Hutch and the others.

"See you at school Humphrey!" Hutch called. I walked over to Kate who was standing next to the door to the men's change room.

"Hey" I said.

"Hi Humphrey, you looked good out there" Kate said, with a big smile on her face.

"Thanks beautiful" I replied before pulling her into a kiss.

"I'll be waiting for you in the foyer, see you soon handsome" Kate told me.

"Alright I'll see you in a bit" I said before I walked into the change room and got changed.

When I came out I saw Kate sitting in a chair waiting for me.

"Hey, you ready to go?" I asked. "Yeah, I'm ready" She replied as she stood up.

We walked out of the aquatic centre together when we saw a yellow bus pull up a group of male wolves climb out. They wore red black and green jerseys that read "East Jasper Alpha Dogs".

They were all in extremely good shape and they walked with attitude and pride, the East Jasper Alpha Dogs were known for being Jasper Parks most athletic sports teams and from what I could see now I had no doubt they were the best of the then I heard a voice I had hoped I would not hear again.

"Well, well, well what do we have here? A bitch and her pet coyote" the mocking voice of Garth Scott said, before Garth himself walked out from behind the athletes.

"Don't ever fucking call Kate a bitch again" I told Garth.

"What are you gonna do? I out number you so I'd suggest you stand down before I put you back in the fucking hospital you little-"

"GARTH! Stand down!" A booming voice ordered, as a black furred middle-aged wolf stepped off of the bus.

At that same moment Coach Wright and the West Jasper swim team walked out of the aquatic center.

"Jordan Wright, it's been a long time, the last time I saw you I was taking the first place swimming trophy from you for the fifth time in a row" the Alpha Dogs coach said.

Coach Wright glared back at the coach.

"You're right Sam, it has been a long time. What brings you to West Jasper?" Coach Wright asked.

"East Jasper's aquatic centre is closed for renovations we figured we'd come here to practice" The coach replied.

"We're done here so go ahead" Coach Wright told the Alpha Dogs coach. At that moment Hutch stepped forwards and cleared his throat.

"Oh, Sam allow me to introduce you to my team captain, Hutch Murdoch" Coach Wright said.

The Alpha Dogs's coach looked Hutch over.

"He doesn't look like much" The coach said.

Hutch glared back at him.

"Allow me to introduce my team captain, Garth Scott" the coach said, as Garth stepped forwards.

"We've met" Hutch said as he glared at Garth.

Garth let out a laugh.

"Hutch Murdoch is a captain of something? That's hilarious! But that's not the most surprising thing I see, what's the coyote doing here?" Garth asked.

"He was-"

"He's the newest member of the team, and one of the fastest swimmers I've seen" Coach Wright said, interrupting Hutch.

Garth and the entire East Jasper swim team burst out laughing.

"He doesn't compare to me, or anyone else on my team. You guys don't have a chance" Garth told Hutch.

I had enough of Garth running his mouth, he wasn't going to push me around anymore.

"Hey Garth!" I shouted before stepping forwards.

"I thought I warned you not to talk about Kate like that" I told Garth, who was covering his bleeding nose and glaring at me in a mixture of shock and complete rage.

Before Garth could attack his teammates grabbed him and held him back.

"I'll fucking kill you Coyote! You're nothing compared to me!" Garth screamed as he was carried back onto the bus.

The Alpha Dog's coach walked up to Coach Wright, the two wolves glared at each other.

"You better make sure your ENTIRE team is ready, my Alpha Dog's are going to bring their A game at the first swim meet" the coach told Coach Wright.

"They'd better, because my boys will be ready for a fight. You won't be taking that trophy from us this year" Coach Wright said.

"I promise you that West Jasper High will never see the trophy again, see you in three weeks Jordan" the Alpha Dogs's coach said, before walking away from Coach Wright.

"Who was that guy?" I asked Coach Wright.

"That was Sam "King" Rouge, he's the most successful high school sports coach in Western Canada" Coach Wright replied.

"He seems like he means business" I said.

"He does, Hutch!" Coach Wright shouted.

"Yes coach?" Hutch asked.

"Humphrey's on the team now, I want you to start training him on Monday, you have three weeks from Monday to get Humphrey in shape for the first swim meet I want you to do your best to show him the ropes, understood?" Coach Wright asked.

"Yes sir" Hutch replied.

"Alright, good luck Humphrey" Coach Wright said to me, before turning around and walking to his car.

"Congratulations Humphrey, I'll see you tomorrow. Bye Kate, Humphrey" Hutch said before turning and walking away with the other members of the swim team.

After Hutch and the others left Kate and I began to walk back to my car, we climbed inside and I started the car.

They knew they would never achieve such wealth, and they wanted to wallow in the riches of others simply because they were too afraid to face reality and their insecurities that would be revealed if they did.

When I pulled up the circular driveway Kate climbed out of the car and leaned in through the window.

"Thanks for the day Humphrey, are you still coming to dinner tomorrow night?" Kate asked.

"Yeah I will be, I may come over a little early if that's okay with you my dad and brothers will be here closer to supper" I told Kate.

"All right, would you like to come inside quickly? I'm sure my parents will be happy to see you" Kate asked.

"It's all right, I don't want to be too much of a bother" I told Kate.

"Nonsense, we don't have any plans tonight come inside for a little bit" Kate told me.

"If you insist" I told Kate, before turning off the car and following her into the house.

"Mom I'm home!" Kate called.

"Hi Honey!" I heard the voice of Eve Hale call, moments later a thin, golden-furred, woman stepped into the foyer and embraced Kate in a hug.

"How was your day?" Eve asked.

"It was good thanks, Mom you remember Humphrey right?" Kate asked.

Eve turned to me and a big smile grew across her face.

"Humphrey Ashcroft! Oh my goodness it's so great to finally see you again after all this time!" Eve exclaimed before she pulled me into a hug.

"It's nice to see you as well Mrs. Hale it been a long-"

"Please call me Eve, Mrs. Hale makes me sound far too old" Eve told me.

"Will you be staying long Humphrey?" Eve asked.

"I'm not sure, I don't have any thing else planned for tonight" I replied.

"Why don't you stay for awhile, have some drinks, and chat. I'm sure Winston would absolutely love to see you again" Eve suggested.

"I think that sounds like a great idea, I'll be happy too hang out for a bit" I told Eve.

"Excellent, why don't you go say hi to Winston while Kate and I think of some things to do later on tonight. Winston should be in his study it's just down on the far right side of the house" Eve said.

"Alright, I'll talk to the two of you later" I said, before I began to walk down the right hallway towards Winston's study.

When I came to the door to the study I knocked a couple of times and waited for the voice of Winston Hale to allow me enter.

As I oped the door I saw an older grey-haired wolf standing next to a brightly lit fireplace. The study was dimly lit, apart from the burning fireplace, bookshelves surrounded room, the walls were covered in red wall painting and paintings, and 80's classical rock music was played on a stereo. The wolf wore black dress pants, black shoes, and a white button up shirt when I entered the room he turned and faced me. The wolf had a kind face that was filled with love, respect, and intelligence.

Winston Hale was as wise as he was caring, he seemed to always have a pleasant look on his face and a smile that would not be easily forgotten.

"I was wondering when you'd walk into my life again Humphrey Ashcroft" Winston said, as he flashed his unforgettable smile at me.

"Come inside, sit down" Winston said, motioning too an empty chair in front of the fire. I slowly walked into the study and sat down into the chair, the fire was warm and I immediately began to relax.

"I never got the chance to previously thank you for standing up for Kate and protect her from Garth, I wanted to tell you I'm proud of you Humphrey. It takes a real man to risk his life to protect the woman he loves, you are a real man Humphrey" Winston told me.

"Enough with the formalities. You're family Humphrey, just call me Winston. No more of this "sir" or "Mr. Hale". You risked your life to protect my daughter, if that doesn't put us on first name basis nothing will" Winston said.

"Alright Winston" I said.

"So, how has your family been?" Winston asked.

"They're good, my fathers quit drinking and Shawn has started to show an interest in my life" I replied.
