Chapter 4

When Naruto touched the blade a white light enveloped him. Inside the seal Kyuubi was screaming in agony. He knew that on the night he was sealed into Naruto, that Minato had sealed his yin chakra into himself and his yang chakra within Naruto. For some unexplainable reason, his other half was returning. Both he and Minato both knew that the seal wouldn't be able to handle all of his chakra, but for some reason the seal hadn't broken yet. An agonizing while later Kyuubi could feel all of his chakra return to him. Before he could try anything, Kyuubi, the nine tailed beast, was no more.

On the outside, Naruto had passed out and the executioner's blade became a simple katana, broken and to the naked eye, unusable.

"Naruto?" Asuma muttered as he checked Naruto's pulse.

"Is he ok, sensei?" Midori asked as Shikamaru looked shocked.

"He's alive. I don't know what happened, but let's get him back to the house. Hopefully he just needs rest." Asuma said as he picked up Naruto, while Shikamaru picked up the broken blade.

As Naruto was being carried back his entire chakra system altered. His Yang chakra was being converted into Yin chakra. Only leaving behind enough to do some bodily repairs. One of the first things to be done was to remove the presence of the seal. With Kyuubi being no more there was more need for a seal.

As all this happened, Naruto appeared in a room that was lit with two candles sitting on sticks on either side of him. On the ground was two circles of writing that he couldn't understand.

"I see you have come." A voice said

"Who are you?" Naruto responded immediately.

"I don't know why we are here or why I look like this, but it must be important." The voice said again as he stepped forward. He was a tall and peach-skinned man. He appeared of elderly age, he had deep wrinkles, a long goatee reaching his waist, and short, grayish-red shaggy hair, which spiked up at the top and had a chin-length braid hanging in front of his left ear. He had pronounced eyebrow ridges with small, horn-like protrusions above them, as well as a red Rinnegan-like marking in the centre of the forehead. His skin was grey. He wore a white, full-length kimono with a pattern of six black magatama around a high collar, beneath which he wore a necklace which was also made up of six magatama. On the back of his kimono was a larger Rinnegan-like marking with a pattern of nine magatama arranged in three rows of three beneath it.

"You're not answering my question! Who are you and where are we?" Naruto demanded. He was growing irritated with his situation

"I'm Kyuubi and this is my birthplace." The now named Kyuubi said

"Kyuubi, as in sealed inside me, Kyuubi?" Naruto asked

"Yes. The last thing I remember was feeling pain as I felt the other half of my chakra return to me." Kyuubi said

"What do you mean?" Naruto asked, honestly curious now

"When your fourth hokage sealed me, he gave you one half of my chakra and sealed the other half with himself before he died. Because you touched that blade, my chakra returned to me and we changed. You are no longer a jinchuriki and I now look like my father." Kyuubi said

"Your father? You have a father?" Naruto asked

"He was the sage of six paths, the father of ninjutsu." Kyuubi said, slightly irritated at Naruto's words, but knew that he didn't know no better.

"I thought he was just a myth." Naruto said

Kyuubi then briefly explained the ten tails, and his, as well as the other tailed beast's birth.

"That's awesome. You said that I wasn't a jinchuriki anymore right? What did you mean?" Naruto asked

"I don't know. What I do know is that I'm not held back by a seal anymore. I also know that by calling the name Kyuubi while channeling your yin chakra or spiritual energy, you will be able to summon me as a blade known as a zanpaktou or spirit sword. The phrase protect … will allow your blade to transform and give your more power." Kyuubi said

"I saw your lips moving, but I couldn't hear you." Naruto said

"You're not supposed to. The word I said was my true name and until we bond you will never hear my name." Kyuubi said

"I thought your name was Kyuubi." Naruto said

"That is my title and what I prefer for people to call me by. … is the name I was given at birth. You can think about this another time. It's about time for you to wake up." Kyuubi said as Naruto disappeared from the spot.

In the real world Naruto opened his eyes, tried channeling chakra and said "Kyuubi." To the shock of those around him as well as the awkwardness since nothing happened.

"What are you doing Naruto?" Asuma asked. Sitting in the same room as Naruto was his entire team. They had carried Naruto back to the house and now he was awake, acting like an idiot.

"It doesn't matter, it didn't work." Naruto said

Yin chakra is only half of chakra. You have to start all over now. Kyuubi said inside Naruto's mind. Naruto nodded and then closed his eyes. Remembering his initial training with chakra, Naruto found the energy within him and unleashed it.

"What power is this?" Shikamaru asked, feeling the strange, yet familiar energy coming from Naruto.

"It isn't chakra, but it is." Midori said. She wasn't a sensor, but the feeling was similar yet different. Asuma was just on guard for anything that was about to happen.

"Let's try this again, Kyuubi." Naruto said with his hand out. A second later a simple tanto appeared in Naruto's hand.

"Naruto what's going on?" Asuma asked, still on guard

"This is Kyuubi, my zanpaktou, or spirit sword." Naruto said

"Why did you name your sword after Kyuubi?" Midori asked in confusion

"Does it have anything to do with him being sealed in you?" Shikamaru asked to the shock of the others.

"How did you know Shikamaru?" Asuma asked

"It wasn't to hard to figure out really. Tailed beasts can't be killed because they are masses of chakra. They would only reform years later. Given the fact that Naruto is the fourth hokage's son, as well as the fact that he was born on the day that Kyuubi attacked." Shikamaru said

"My dad is the fourth?" Naruto asked

"You look just like him Naruto. Other than being the container for the Kyuubi there would have to be another reason for you being so close to the third and not used as a weapon for the village. The third must care about you on a personal level and his only true connect with you that I can see is being the son of his successor/ student's student. At that point I would also conclude that your mother is Kushina Uzumaki." Shikamaru stated. Naruto turned to their sensei to see if it was true. Being only six years younger than Minato, as well as a friend to Kakashi he knew a little.

"All of this is an S class secret." Asuma said as he looked at Midori, but he had no doubt that she was trustworthy. He was just following protocol. "Everything Shikamaru said is true. What are your thoughts on Naruto now?"

"I've known for a while now, and the knowledge hasn't affected me at all. Nothing has changed between me and you." Shikamaru said

"It's shocking to learn something like that, but I'm not dumb. I know the difference between a jail and it's prisoner. You contain him, but you aren't Kyuubi. I feel the same about you too." Midori said. They probably would never know, but those words brought Naruto a joy he hasn't felt ever in his life. To show his gratitude, Naruto hugged his teammates with tears of joy running down his eyes.

"I have to let you guys know that I'm not the jinchuriki for the Kyuubi anymore." Naruto said as he released them

"What do you mean anymore?" Asuma asked on confusion

"All of Kyuubi's power and even his very being was transferred into this blade, my blade." Naruto said

"How did this happen?" Asuma asked

"I'm not even sure myself. Kyuubi said…" Naruto started

"Kyuubi? You talked to him?" Asuma asked

"Yes. Before waking up here, I woke up in a room where I meet Kyuubi. He looks different now than what we know him to normally look like, but he explained what little he knew. He is now a zanpaktou, which is a spirit sword. All of his power is at my disposal in the blade. To transform the blade I have to say a certain phrase plus his name. I know the phrase, but I can't hear his name." Naruto said

"What does that mean?" Midori asked.

"Until we bond, no matter how many times he says his name to me I can't hear it. When he first told me the phrase he said his name and I saw his lips moving, but no sound came out." Naruto said

"I've never heard of anything at all like this before. Let's take this slow for now. Back to the mission though. I've sent Izumo and Kotetsu to scout Gato's building. They will return around noon with a progress report. This mission can't be completed without Tazuna finishing the bridge. To do that Gato must be brought down. For now rest and we will talk more tomorrow." Asuma said as he walked out the room.

"Now that my secret is out there, I think it's only fair that you two share a secret with me." Naruto said

"My mother is the only person I've ever been scared of in my entire life." Shikamaru blandly stated

"Why?" Midori asked

"There is a lot I could say, but I usually keep stuff like that to my thoughts. Let's just say she is against me being me." Shikamaru said

"Moving on from this weird moment, Midori, your turn." Naruto said, while Shikamaru looked like he wanted to argue, but decided it would be too troublesome to explain further.

"A secret about me huh? I guess since I know your big secret, I'll tell you my big secret." Midori said

"Your role model?" Naruto asked

"Yes. My role model is the prankster king of Konoha." Midori said

"Hey that's my title. When I get ahold of that bastard, I'm going to…" Naruto started his furious rant

"She means you Naruto. Although I don't see how he could be a good role model to anyone." Shikamaru said

"Me? I'm your role model Midori?" Naruto asked

"This is also a family secret, so I'm going to need you guys to keep this to yourselves. My family can see the future upon physical contact. If I was to touch your head and channel chakra I can get a full glimpse of your future from today onward. A long time ago, when we first met Naruto, I unconsciously had a vision while touching you. It was my first vision ever. I saw a life that you can never live." Midori said

"What do you mean? You said you guys can see the future?" Shikamaru asked

"The future isn't set in stone. Small changes can force huge changes. I think I somehow changed the future, now that I think about it. In the vision we don't meet until years later. You and Sakura are genin for team Kakashi, while I am a fresh genin. I only decided to become a ninja because I saw your performance in the upcoming chunin exams and was really inspired. I gained that same inspiration, but upon seeing it earlier I decided to be a ninja with you instead of after you." Midori said

"I don't get it. You said that Sakura and Naruto are genin of team Kakashi. You never mentioned Sasuke. You also said that you saw him perform in the upcoming chunin exams. If performed so well, why didn't he become a chunin?" Shikamaru asked

"There was an invasion by sound and sand, lord hokage died in battle with his former student Orochimaru and only you were promoted despite you forfeiting your match." Midori said

"If you have all this information why didn't you tell someone sooner?" Shikamaru asked

"We could prevent the old man's death." Naruto said seriously

"I knew that since I wasn't even a genin, getting to see lord hokage would be all but impossible. After seeing how the team assignments played out, I knew that some things would be different, maybe everything that I saw. Besides I only saw things from Naruto's point, there was a lot that he didn't know and never found out despite how important he becomes in the future." Midori said

"I become important?" Naruto asked

"Focus Naruto. Besides that future isn't going to happen anymore remember. That course has been changed. Midori, try again." Shikamaru stated

"Huh?" Midori asked

"Look at Naruto's future again. Now that we know that something might happen we could most likely be on the lookout for it. If you see something now then we could plan for that." Shikamaru said

"Alright, let's see." Midori said as she touched Naruto's head and saw Naruto's future.

"What did you see?" Naruto asked

"The invasion still happens, but since we knew about it we looked for more clues and actually discovered a lot more than the other Naruto knew about the invasion." Midori said

"What can you tell us." A new voice said

"Huh?" The three genin turned to see their sensei

"I won't scold you for not coming forward with this kind of information sooner since you weren't a konoha shinobi back then. I want to know what you saw and how can we prevent or work to repel this invasion." Asuma said

2 hours later

"Guys." Asuma greeted as he approached the two chunin

"What are you doing here? I thought we were supposed to report back tomorrow?" Izumo asked seriously

"We have intel that we need to return to lord hokage immediately. I'm here to give you guys new orders. What is your report first." Asuma said

"Gato put all of his chips on Zabuza and his apprentice killing the bridge builder. Sucker's bet." Kotetsu said as he was elbowed by Izumo.

"There are no ninja here. Nothing but bandits, mercenaries and ronin. Nothing that your team couldn't defeat together. Gato is in his office, which we assume doubles as a bedroom or leads to one at least." Izumo said

"That's good. Here's your new orders. We're heading in. Take no prisoners. I want Gato left alive. If you find anyone that was being held there against their will free them." Asuma stated

"Understood." The chunin said together.

"Let's move out then. Meet in Gato's office once you are done." Asuma said as the three moved in different directions to take the place down.

Konoha the next afternoon

The mission was complete. The older ninja assaulted the compound and killed all enemies. They rescued women and children and was able to take all of Gato's money. They could have easily kept the money and returned it home, but the better choice was to give it to the people of Wave. That night when they returned they left the money and victims in Tazuna's care. He promised he would take care of things from there and that he would make sure he paid the remaining amount for the mission. The Konoha ninja then took off to head back home. This intel was not to be taken lightly and Asuma had no plans of doing that.

After returning back home they all proceeded to the hokage tower.

Hiruzen was a second from entering grandfather mode and greeting Naruto and his team when they walked in, but he noticed the serious looks and returned to hokage mode.

"Report." Hiruzen said

"The mission was completed with the deaths of Zabuza Momochi, his apprentice, Gato and all his thugs. We have two matters that need to be discussed. Secrecy is key." Asuma finished

"Anbu prevent anyone from entering until I give you my signal" Hiruzen said as Asuma noticed the anbu leave and move to outside the door. "Does anyone need to leave the room for this secrecy?"

"No. One matter is coming from Naruto and the other from Midori. Naruto you start, since yours is less of a problem now." Asuma said
