Sorry for the long wait. I've had a busy life. That and for some reason I just couldn't write this chapter. I've re-written it a couple of times now already, but I'm tired of re-writing it, so this is the one I liked most. And yes, this is the last chapter. :( I've got so many stories I'm working on and want to start. Having one done will be a bit of a relief, though. So, without further ado, here is the last chapter of Freedom.
Toothless blinked open his eyes and looked around. The roof, walls and floors were made of wood. It looked like home. The last thing he remembered after fighting Roz was Fern jumping into the fight, and then his memory was blank.
He looked around, his vision still a bit blurry. His eyes continued to gaze around the room. A chair, a chest, a bed. Toothless named the things he saw, his mind still hazy, feeling a bit foggy. Eventually his eyes came to rest on the tail fin of another Night Fury. His eyes followed the tail and eventually stared into familiar ice blue eyes. It took a moment for his mind to register whose eyes they were.
"Hey ice princess." He spoke, his voice slightly hoarse. Star smiled at his nickname for her and snuggled closer to him.
"Thank god, you're okay." She said.
"Why? What happened?"
"You bled out. Aurora healed you, but we didn't know of you'd ever wake up again." She explained, her eyes glazed over a bit.
"Hey. I'm okay now though, aren't I?" He reassured her, pulling her closer. "I'm not going anywhere." He looked down at his tail. The left tail fin was once again missing, this time leaving a jagged scar. "At least not with this tail I'm not."
Star looked as his tail. "I think Hiccup is making another one. Aurora could also fix it again if you want."
"Nah. Hiccup will probably come up with a tail that will let me fly on own my own. Besides, it gives him something to work on instead of accidentally destroying things." Toothless looked at Star again, noticing the scar on her tail and wing. "I never wanted to see you like this." He whispered.
"It's okay. Scars make you look tough, right?" Star said innocently.
"Scars also mean that you got hurt, and I wasn't there to save you."
"You've got scars. What's the difference?"
"The difference is that I am a warrior. I'm supposed to fight, and then after I get the girl." He winked at Star. "And that would be you."
Star rolled her eyes and smiled. "Come on, let's go outside. The others are worried about you." She said, getting up and waking towards the door. Toothless followed her, limping a bit on his left leg.
Outside they were greeted with the faces of relieved humans and dragons. Hiccup gave his dragon a hug and a new tail fin that allowed him to fly on his own. The dragons and teens all went to the academy to avoid the crowds of the Vikings that were around Hiccup's house. There, they all ate and Toothless told the others of the fight with Roz.
later that evening
Star nudged Toothless' uninjured shoulder. "Come on."
"Where are we going?" Toothless asked, following.
"To the view point."
"Why?"
"Because I want to talk to you."
"You are talking to me." He smirked. Star rolled her eyes.
The two flew off to the view point. "So what is it you wanted to talk to me about?" Toothless asked once they were there.
"I just wanted to know what happened when you were fighting Roz."
"You were there when I told the others. We fought, I got injured, he got injured, and Fern came in at the last minute."
"I know that part." Star said. "But what else happened?"
Toothless looked at the sky. "Roz knew something that would have ruined him if others found out. It involved you, and me, and all our siblings. That's why he tried to get rid of me so often." He explained.
"What was the thing he knew?" Star asked, curious.
"He was never supposed to be king."
"Then who was?" Star questioned more.
Toothless hesitated. "Me."
"Why is that a bad thing?" Star said.
"I never said it was."
"But you were thinking it." Star said, stepping closer. "So, why is it a bad thing?"
"I don't know how to be the leader of a country, especially one so broken as this one."
"I'm sure you'll manage. There are probably some people still alive who knew what it was like before Roz. They can help you." Star said. "And you've got me."
Toothless smiled. "Of course I do." Star looked up at the sky, leaning against him. "You know, you wouldn't even be here if it weren't for Fern." She said.
"Yeah." Toothless said. "Where is she anyways?"
"Somewhere in the forest. She disappeared just after you woke up." Star answered. "She's probably out hunting or something."
"Or chasing Terrors." Toothless laughed. "I'll talk to her tomorrow. For now, I'm perfectly happy staying here and talking with you."
"I couldn't agree with you more."
So, there's the last chapter. I'm going to hopefully do a sequel about Fern, but I'm not sure yet. And if I do, don't expect it any time soon. I've got a lot of stories lined up already. Hope you all liked reading the story! I can't thank those who have read enough. Thanks to all who have reviewed! And Merry Christmas! (Unless you're reading this in 2014 or later, in which case, hi!)
Thanks to all those who reviewed!
