Pika-Peeka-Boo
A Pokemon One-Shot
What had life come to?
Squishing his cheeks, pulling funny faces, being "hilarious"...
All for Satoshi-san.
The giggling, red-cheeked infant clapped her hands in delight as the yellow mouse-Pokemon known as Pikachu launched into a speed round of impressions. Lotad, Chimchar, Jigglypuff, Pidgey...
Each impression awed the baby more and more. Her shrieking laughter hurt Pikachu's ears, but he kept at it. It made the infant happy, which would make both Kasumi-chan and Satoshi-san happy consequently.
Without warning, the baby's attention drifted from the loyal Pokemon to a noise coming from the kitchen, most likely a Pidgey or some such Pokemon tapping the window. As the child began her eager crawl towards the new source of entertainment, Pikachu jumped in front of her, blocking her path towards a potentially dangerous room of the home.
"Pika-pikachu!" He protested. The infant, distraught over the Pokemon blockade, scrunched her face. A wave of panic hit Pikachu as he recognized the face: the pre-cry scowl!
Frantic, Pikachu exclaimed, "P-pika! Pika-pika!" With quick movements, Pikachu covered his eyes. The infant made a curious coo at the odd gesture, wondering in baby confusion what the funny mouse-Pokemon was doing.
Just as the baby was preparing to sneak by Pikachu, he yanked his hands away from his face. "Pi-ka!"
Blinking, the baby found herself in a fit of giggles, unknowingly calming the Pokemon. Pikachu sighed with relief as the crisis was averted and continued with the game of Peekaboo. The child could not get enough, which was a relief since Pikachu had run out of impressions by now.
From behind the baby, a door opened, and an adult Satoshi came in carrying a few baby gates. Pikachu waved with an excited, "Chu!"
"Hey there, Pal," Satoshi greeted. "Thanks for looking after Akita for us."
Behind him, Kasumi entered with some grocery bags and beamed at Pikachu. "Pikachu, you are the best babysitter." She gave Satoshi a playful nudge. "Good thing, too, since someone forgot to buy the baby gates before Akita started crawling."
Sheepisly, Satoshi rubbed his head and grinned. "Yeah, yeah, I'm sorry, okay. Seriously, though, thanks, Pikachu."
Leaning the gates against a wall, Satoshi walked over and picked up the baby Akita, who cooed in delight to be in her father's arms again. Pikachu hopped up onto the sofa and watched his owner and his owner's wife set up the playpen and gates. With a happy sigh, the aged Pokemon laid his head down for a much deserved nap.
The lulling sound of Kasumi singing Akita to sleep echoed even in his dreams.
A/N: I do not own Pokemon.
I am not familiar with the Pokemons' Japanese names, only the characters, so I apologize for the combination of English Pokemon with Japanese trainer. I could have looked it up, but c'mon now. If it matters that much to anyone, I'm sorry, but I didn't feel inclined.
First Pokemon fic, so I hope it was okay.
