Prologue
They were watching, but they were always watching. As the children discovered the android, and then tried to escape, they had merely watched. What else could they had done? They had no security, and they themselves were only scientists. What could they do now? Their test subjects were gone, which left them with nothing. Nothing! Square one, once more. Just as the other test had gone. Well, none of it mattered. They would just start over, and this time with better subjects. Subjects, subjects... Yes. Smarter, faster, only the best would be allowed, of every nationality. Boundaries? What boundaries? They were scientists, who were they to care about governments, laws, or ethics of all things? None of it mattered, only getting to the bottom of the problem, the bottom of the limit, the bottom of the Question. No more release forms, no more of that orphan requirement! If needed, they could take them from their families. They would steal those they needed, if necessary, and the rest of the world be damned. They would have results! Now, they just needed to collect more children...
