Todd drew in a deep breath as he watched Blair sleep. In the eight years that he'd been held captive he had missed this the most. Blair was always beautiful but she seemed even more so when she was sleeping and on the nights when the moonlight came through the window and landed on her, she seemed almost ethereal. As desperate as he had been to get back to his family, it was moments like this with Blair that he had craved the most. She was everything.
She shifted in her sleep and opened her eyes to see him looking down at her. "Hi," she murmured, her voice thick with sleep.
"Hi."
"What are you doing?"
"Watching you sleep." He reached out and brushed a strand of hair from her face. "You look beautiful in this light."
Her eyes locked on Todd's as she remembered him telling her almost the exact same thing before their second wedding. It had made her feel like the most beautiful woman in the world then and it did the same now. The difference was that this time, they had been forcibly separated for eight years and Todd's eyes were glazed with unshed tears as he spoke. "So do you." As though it had a mind of its own, her hand moved and tenderly caressed the scar on his right cheek. "How long has it been since you slept?"
He closed his eyes when she touched him and silently cursed when a single tear spilled over. He had always hated showing emotion, but this time he couldn't seem to stop it. He'd been through hell in the year that he'd been back, having to deal with his long lost twin brother, his not-so-dead-not-so-loving psychotic mother, almost being killed by his mother, being accused of his brother's murder, working with Blair to clear his name and get rid of the false memories that his mother had planted, and building a relationship with Jack. And apparently, crying, something he had always viewed as a sign of vulnerability, was the way his mind chose to deal with everything. When he opened his eyes, concern was etched on her lovely features. "It doesn't matter."
She smiled sadly and inched closer to him, kissing the path of his tears. "Todd, it's over. Irene is dead, Baker killed Victor, and you're hallucinations of Irene are gone. They are gone, aren't they?"
Todd laughed as he reached up and took her hand in his, threading their fingers together. "Yes, they're gone."
"Then you can sleep and I'll watch over you."
"I want–"
"You have the rest of your life to see me in this light. Sleep now, Todd."
After drinking in her image for another long moment, he closed his eyes as she began stroking his hair. "You're still my one true babe."
"Always."
