H stands for Happiness.

Happiness = bliss, contentment, delight, enjoyment euphoria

If Gintoki could remember his mother, he'd probably remember her saying that there was happiness in the little things. It was the kind of thing mothers did. He, however, could only imagine this, causing him to stare at Sougo in wonder for at least 3 minutes.

"Are you happy, Danna?" Now, the question itself seemed quite innocent, even if Gintoki wasn't so sure how to answer it. It was the person asking the question he didn't quite trust. So, he settled for nodding and a "I suppose so".

Sougo raised an eyebrow at him and just walked away. It was downright suspicious but there was hardly anything he could do about it. Gintoki just shrugged and started walking , wanting to get home quickly.

When he got home without any further incidents, he viewed this as quite an accomplishment. It often took a while to get anywhere near his house, either because someone suddenly had a job for him, or a sudden explosion. He sat down on his couch, wondering what he was going to do. Sleeping sounded very promising, but not very clever. Sleep was not something that made Gintoki 'happy' these days. In his eyes, your life was very sad when sleep didn't make you feel better.

Gintoki had been having dreams.

For a few weeks now.

While that didn't sound very bad, it was more the content that was …. bad. The only part of him that seemed to be happy about it, should definitely not be happy when dreaming about Hijikata. It had all started with a fight between them a few weeks ago, which had gotten quite out of hand. In the end they had even thrown their swords away, just kicking and hitting each other. How Hijikata had gotten under him with his hands up, Gintoki couldn't quite remember. He also couldn't quite remember who had started kissing who, just the fact that one moment they were fighting and one moment they were definitely kissing. Not just a brush of lips, no of course not. Full blown snogging. Gintoki hated his life. A small kiss could be called an accident and be ignored. What they did was not an accident and apparently, could also not be ignored. When he was awake he did everything to avoid the other. Shame he couldn't do that in his dreams.

The worst part of it was, Gintoki mused, that he didn't just dream of kissing. The things he did to and with Hijikata in his dreams extended kissing by far. The thing was, he didn't really mind it that much. The main problem was that it was not going to happen and he did not want Hijikata to see him when he was sexually frustrated. On the other hand, it was Hijikata's fault he was feeling like this. It was his fault he wasn't very happy and that he was sexually frustrated and it'd be only fair to make him do something about it.

He grabbed his boots quickly before he'd changed his mind. He deserved to be happy dammit. He practically marched to the Shinsengumi barracks, determined to find the other man. He hadn't expect to find him in the backyard however. Sougo had showed him the way with a sly grin on his face, which slightly disturbed Gintoki.

"That's bad for you, you know."

Hijikata looked up at him, cigarette dangling between his lips.

"Ha? What the hell are you doing here?"

Gintoki snorted. "Happy to see you too." Hijikata didn't answer him, but he scooted over slightly. Gintoki raised his eyebrow but didn't comment. Instead, he took the silent invitation and sat down next to the other man. They sat there in silence for a while and Gintoki had to admit, he was quite content. The weather had been good for days now, even though it was already fall. He could understand why Hijikata enjoyed sitting in the garden, it looked quite beautiful.

Gintoki, however, was a man with a mission, and no gorgeous scenery would stop him. He turned and opened his mouth to say something, but his voice got stuck in his throat when Hijikata looked back.

Talking about gorgeous, since when did he think Hijikata had beautiful eyes? Probably since the day the snogged. Or maybe even before that.

"If you got to say something, do so." Gintoki's eyes flickered to the other man's lips and back to those blue eyes. His heart was pounding, and fuck, he was acting like a teenage girl. Kagura probably dealt better with this stuff than he did. Gintoki blinked once, slowly, and decided, that since he was a man of action, he should probably take action.

He plucked the cigarette from Hijikata's lips, and before the man could complain, their lips met. Gintoki grabbed his shirt and pulled him closer.

And when Hijikata sighed and treaded his hands into silver curls, all Gintoki could think was;

This is happiness.
