Be Careful What You Say

Epilogue: The Seacomers

Once again, truly, it was one of those days to be thankful for. A warm golden sun was slowly rising against the blanket of the September sky. Little white and fluffy clouds inched across the open space, giving the blue canvas splash of brilliant color. The air was hot, but the breeze gentle and cool, and both had a sweet scent of freshly blooming grasses and flowers that lingered in its presence. Each little movement of the wind sent ripples across the blossoming fields of green, and yellow, and red, like the waves of an outstretched ocean. Across the ever growing and lush greenery of the landscape small speckles of color, wild flowers and other vibrant plants, appeared and vanished in the swaying grasses.

Between the rolling hills of the Ylisse countryside, in those fields of color and life, cut a small blue stream and a stitching of dirt paths that broke the green ocean like little brown veins. The stream, nestled in between two hills, flowed slowly over the sand and small pebbles along its banks. Tiny fish would occasionally break the surface to snatch a bug or two. Just besides that was a single dirt path. Mimicking the curve of the stream, the dusty brown road twisted parallel to the clear waters. Old tall trees flanked the sides of the river and path. Their leaves swayed up, down, left, and right in the soft push of the breeze. All of this beautiful and vibrant scenery from just outside the city of Ylisstol. The stone walls and buildings of the capital rose up over the hills in the near distance.

Yet underneath one of those strong and sturdy trees along the sandy bank slouched a young boy. He leaned up against the wooden trunk, setting his back against the smooth woody bark. Beneath the canopy of leaves and in the cool shade the boy sat peacefully and at rest. He sat peacefully still, unmoving, fixated upon something in his hands. On occasion the figure would shift. A hand would reach up and run through a mess of deep brown hair that covered the top of his head. But no sooner had it appeared, the hand would vanish again, returning to an object he held in his lap. Sitting in plain sight only a few meters away from the path, whomever the boy was made no intention of greeting those that passed by unless they would greet him first, of course that only lasted but a few fleeting moments…

There was a swift flash of purple, black, and gold as a cloaked man bolted passed the reading boy beneath the tree. His cloak fluttered behind him as his feet carried him with an urgent swiftness toward the city. This man held a book in his hands, a tome, magically, green in color. It seemed the wind was carrying him faster and faster with each passing step. Robin was this man's name, the Tactician of Chrom's…

And with utmost haste, the Tactician sprinted toward the castle…

"Sire, a messenger from Regna Ferox." A guard stated with a slight bow to the Exalt. He held a rather stern and confused, yet almost fearful look upon his face. It was the face of something amiss, something not right. The guard held a closed fist of his chestplate as he bowed in respect.

Chrom shifted, passing an idle glance to the ever faithful Frederick who stood the signature two meters from Chrom's side. No more, no less. He turned back toward the guard and nodded in reply. "See them in at once…" The Exalt said slowly, catching the emotion in the soldier's face.

There was a swift bow from the guard as he bowed his head again. "Yes, milord." He spoke, turning rather swiftly and stiffly to make his way toward the door, opening it to reveal an unexpected face, Raimi.

She strode up in her usual general-like manner, stern and commanding in presence, but yet also sharing that same confused look as the guard that had let her in. "Prince Chrom!" She spoke quickly, sounding almost out of breath and weary. "I come on behalf of Khan Regnant Flavia." Raimi bowed her head deeply and paused, waiting for a response.

Frederick stiffened a bit, he too catching the woman's tone. His eyes shifted to Chrom, awaiting the Exalt's reply.

"Flavia?" Chrom said, his head leaning back a bit in surprise and shock. His eyes darted about the room as if to look for the answers that obviously were not there. It took him a number of moments before any words on continuation left his mouth. "Well, this is a surprise. Is something amiss?"

Raimi's face turned into a deep cringe, one that sent shivers down even Frederick's spine. "I fear so, milord." Without a moment's pause, Raimi spoke again, not waiting for any response. "The khan requests your presence at a summit as soon as you're able."

There was a long pause that fell upon the room as Chrom thought of what possibly could be the problem. Nothing seemed to sit well in his mind about the tone of Raimi, much less the topic of the message that was so urgently brought to his door. He passed a glance over his shoulder, seeing no one. Robin was not there, the Tactician had taken the day to travel out of town. Only the word of the messenger was hopefully bringing Robin closer with each passing moment. Chrom looked back to Raimi and nodded. "What's happened?"

Another silence fell over Raimi before she uttered even a single word. "Our western neighbors of Valm are no longer acting so neighborly." She shifted where she stood, a clearly discomfort taking over her body. "The emperor, who they name the Conqueror, has launcher warships against us."

It was as if Grima himself had returned as the room fell into shock…

"An invasion?" Chrom replied quickly, taking an odd step forward, seemingly in disbelief. "Are you certain of this?"

Regretfully, Raimi bowed her head again. This woman was doing her best to remain calm under such pressure. "Yes, milord. The khan hopes to meet you in Ferox, if it pleases you."

"What do you make of this, Sire?" Frederick spoke, finally stepping into the conversation. He held his hands behind his back as he took a few steps forward to glance at Raimi and then to Chrom.

Chrom ruffles his nose almost in disgust as he passed a glance to Frederick once again. He shifted his weight from left to right and then back again. The Exalt shook his head as he spoke. "Ill business to be sure…" He mumbled, lost in the thought of the moment, as well as all of the confusion. His eyes returned to Raimi with a nod, and after a long silence the Lord spoke in answer. "Raimi, well meet with Flavia at once…"

Robin panted as he met up with Lissa who was frantically waving him down at the far end of the hall. "Come on, Robin!" She spoke in her long and drawn out fashion, having that usual upbeat tone about her. "Chrom's waiting for you!"

The Tactician strode and slowed to a stop just before the door and besides Lissa. "R-Right…" The man pants with a long breath through his nose. He could feel his heart beating almost through his chest. "I came as fast as I was able. I-I was busy looking for…" He pauses and shifted back into a fully standing position. "…Furniture…" Robin looked down to his young friend for a moment and smirked. "Olivia is still with Sumia, right?"

A grin crossed Lissa's face before she rolled her eyes. "Ha!" The young healer laughed madly. "What do you think, doofus?" She didn't bother opening her mouth to speak any other response as she turned and pushed open the door to the main chamber, entering in mid conversation…

Chrom and Sumia stood in the center of the room, speaking to one another with Frederick close by. Obviously, young Lissa pattered up to his side without a second's hesitation. Chrom held out his hand, almost in protest toward Sumia as pained words left his mouth. "I'd stay with you if I could, Sumia, but we owe Regna Ferox a great debt. I must apprise myself of the facts there before deciding on a course of action."

Robin strode slowly in after Lissa, taking his time and examining the letter that was sent to him by the same messenger that had reached Chrom. With open ears he listened to the conversation intently. He hadn't even noticed that his hood was still pulled far over his head, blocking and vision off to his sides...

Sumia took a step forward, a wrapped bundle in her arm of which she held most caringly. "I'm not asking you to stay here with me…" She said with a warm and comforting grin toward her husband. "I'm saying I'm coming with you." The woman took a few more steps forward, holding out the bundle toward the Exalt. Lucina, Chrom's daughter wiggled in the white blanket in which she was bundled. The small baby letting out a faint coo of pleasure at her parent's warm embrace. Her blue hair was a bit messy from her slumber, but such things weren't exactly high on the baby's to-do list…

Chrom shifted almost uncomfortably as a thought took over him. "B-But Lucina is newly born!" He protested, remembering only the few short months ago in April that Lucina was brought into the world. "She needs her mother now…"

"Can she not be wet-nursed as you and Lissa were?" Sumia purred with a faint motherly grin, using a hand to pull Chrom's gaze toward her. "That is House Ylisse's tradition, is it not?" It was then at the little Lucina shifted away, letting out a content wordless coo yet again. Her blue eyes glancing up to her father and mother. "Lucina is a strong child; she takes after her father. The Brand in her left eyes is not your only gift to her."

"I'm worried about more than our child…" Chrom muttered beneath his breath again. "…I'm worried about you."

"That's sweet." Sumia replied, giving Chrom a rather forceful and strangely strong nudge with her hip that would hopefully jolt him back to reality. "But I'm still coming with you."

From where he walked, Robin couldn't help but give a faint laugh as a pleased smirked crawled across his face. The Tactician took his place next to Frederick and Lissa. And while he pretended not to notice, the other pair were whispering something to one another, something strange as they pointed to Lucina. Robin could almost overhear Lissa saying "I want one."

A long and strained sigh came from Chrom's mouth as he returned his gaze to Sumia. "…I know better than to argue once your mind is made."

Lissa blurted out in laughter, pulling herself away from Chrom's ear to speak openly and quite loudly. "Wow, Sumia really has you trained well!" She cackled madly, motioning her hand in a whip-like fashion. "Whh-kssssh!"

Chrom's eyes shot toward his younger sister, his eyes narrowing in her direction. "Lissa-You're not helping." He turned back to Sumia and nodded as if to reassure himself of his choice. "Just promise me you'll return at the first sign of danger, Sumia." A hand motioned to Lissa once. "Lissa and I had Emm of course, but we lost our parents when we were young. I want Lucina to grow up with her whole family around her."

"I'll be careful." Sumia giggled and nodded, planting a brief kiss upon Chrom's cheek. "I promise."

Frederick the stepped forward, bowing his head. "I will ride ahead and assemble an escort, milord." The man clasped his hands behind his back and bowed fully, awaiting his Exalt's command.

Chrom shifted back and breathed in through his nose, letting out a sigh before letting a grin crawl onto his face. "Thank you, Frederick."

Robin began to share that same grin, finally stepping up toward everyone else and holding that same green book from before in front of him. "I'm quite impressed, Chrom." He said with a warm bit of laughter, placing a friendly hand on Chrom's shoulder. "You make a fine ruler." Another laugh left Robin's lips. "You've come a long way from tending sheep!"

Laughing now, Chrom turned to look to his friend. "Ha! Have I truly changed so much?"

Removing his hand and placing it back upon this tome, Robin shrugs and smirked. "Mmm… In a way, you haven't." He turned and motioned to Sumia. "But you've grown as a leader, and of course, as a father."

Chrom nodded slowly, a more content grin taking over his expression. "I've tried to do my best. He looked up toward the vaulted ceiling. "My sister left a weighty legacy. I do all I can just to live up to it."

There was a faint pause between the two as the room fell into a long and strange silence. Questions obviously began to press onto everyone's mind. Were they really going to war again? How bad could this possibly get?

"You know, Robin…" Chrom said with a faint laugh, his eyes turning to gaze passed his tactician and over to another side of the room.

"Yes?" Robin replied, raising an eyebrow curiously. "Chrom?"

A large grin grew on Chrom's face as he chuckled, patting his friend on the shoulder. "You've grown and changed a lot yourself, if I may say."

…There was a rather strange noise that filled the room then. It sounded almost as if Lissa was squealing over something rather cute…

"What do you mean?" Robin said, his head turning to try and figure out where exactly was the cause of the noise. "I'm not following, milord."

Another laugh from Chrom before a hand grasped his friendly shoulder, turning him completely around to face a woman with pink hair. "You've grown to be quite the father yourself…"

And there Olivia stood a bright and beaming smile upon her face. Olivia's pink hair was let down as the dance wore a pleasant looking white and grey gown, and in her arms, much like Sumia, she held a small wiggling and cooing bundle…Baby Inigo, Robin's son was born almost a month ago to the pair. Unexpected, possibly, but mot unwelcome. Since the birth, Olivia had spent much of her time at the castle, sharing the trails of being a new mother with one another, helping once another. Lucina and Inigo were never expect far apart, usually sleeping in the same rooms, tended to by the same nurses, and almost always crying in unison…

Robin chuckled and lowered his head, a hand passing over his hood to pull it down to his neck. "Perhaps, Chrom…" The Tactician said with a long and content sigh as she strode up to Olivia, taking his own child in his arms. "…I simply hope that I'll return home soon once this is all over…"

…A pause…

"…Like you, I want to my child to grow with their entire family around them…"

Author's Note:

Well everyone, here we are The End…

That's right, this is the end of this story. There aren't going to be anymore chapters after this one. There aren't going to be any other events in this story, no more laughter, no more crying, no more whatever. This is it; this is the end of Be Careful What You Say.

Yeah, I know I did promise a little bit of a different end. I'll admit, I've changed it in the last few weeks. It's not the ending I wanted to give it, but it was the ending it really needed. I know. I promised another chapter, yeah, I know. But like I said, this was the ending I picked for a large number of reasons…I think it fits…

But enough of that, this should be a happy time!

YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!

I can't state that enough. All of you who've picked up this story have really made it all the worthwhile making it. It's awesome to have such a wonderful group of readers following this story. I really hope I did make your day a little better when you've read it. I truly do!

Ha, it's funny really…

I never set out to make something that would get as big as this (by my own standards of course). It's really a change for me, and in fact, it has changed me.

What do I mean?

Well…

I think it should be about time to get up and say that I'm actually working on a book. That's right, a real-life book. It's not going to be anything special, but I'm hoping to do what I did when I set out to make this. I want to make people happy, I want to make people smile and laugh and make their day just a little bit better. Sure, I know it's not going to be the best thing since sliced bread. But, I'm doing it for me as well. It'll take some time, a lot longer than this story, but it'll be done before I'm dead…(I hope)…

So what does this mean for ?

Ha, well…Take a read at the last few paragraphs of this chapter…

I'm sure you'll figure it out! ;)

Anyway, I think I'm done for now. I need to start packing as I'm moving to a new apartment soon. I might be MIA for a while as I settle, but I really hope you stay tuned. It won't be long until you hear from me!

Once again, thank you all for reading.

See you all soon!
