Gabriel and Fledgling Cas
Castiel was just a fledgling angel, still very small and a baby compared to the others. In some aspects he was very much like a human child, subjected to fits of tears due to unfulfilled desires and lack of amusement. Other aspects were very angelic such as not requiring sustenance and displaying a small pair of ebony wings, not yet matured enough to allow flight. This child Cas sat atop the clouds, examining the activities of humanity below. He leaned over the edge losing his grip on the edge of the cottony cloud and falling. His wings flapped uselessly, far too small and weak to support him. Luckily, Gabriel, the arch angel and older brother to Castiel saw him fall and rushed to the rescue. Once Castiel was safely in the center of the cloud he set him down. Cas stood on wobbly legs and wiped at his eyes with his tiny fists, rubbing away the tears that fell. His crying caused his breathing to hiccup and catch.
Gabriel just held him close. "It's okay Cassie, you can't fly yet and if you fall it's going to hurt. You have to be careful"
Castiel's little arms wrapped around his neck and hid his face against his big brother's shoulder.
Gabriel set him down again and smiled. "how about we play a game" he suggested, hoping to cheer up the upset fledgling.
Castiel nodded and plopped down, sitting on the cloud and looking up at Gabriel, waiting for him to do something.
He sat down with the small angel and spread his golden wings. he then folded the wings around him, hiding his body with the large feathers. Gabriel paused for a moment before unfolding the wings to reveal himself. "peek-a-boo"
Cas giggled and clapped his little hands.
Gabriel repeated the action, earning a louder giggle and a grin from the baby angel. The next time he folded his wings around himself he waited longer to reveal himself, in the meantime Castiel had crawled over to him and pulled the feathers apart, peeking through to see Gabriel.
It was the other's turn to laugh as the little angel stuttered out: "peek-a-boo" his small hands clutching onto Gabriel's feathers.
Gabriel laughed and winced at the tight grip on the sensitive wing. "be gentle Cassie, you wouldn't want me pinching your wing would you."
Castiel looked down at his hand and released the feather and stumbled back a little before falling back to a sitting position.
They continued the game, Castiel erupting into fits of giggles as his older brother revealed himself to him each time. It was strange to think that this happy baby angel would grow up to the stoic and naive 'baby in a trench coat' that the Winchester's knew.
