New chapter folks! I have news. I want to take a break on this story, just for a little bit, not for another two years, don't worry. I need to think about what to do next since this is where the story will now go to the main story which is Finn having to make the most difficult choice of his life and I may need peeps' help. Should I go forward a year and continue the story? Or should I keep it going at a certain pace with filler chapters of days in the life of Finn in the Pillow World and maybe some with Roselinen? That's what I'm trying to figure out for now. You're more than welcome to PM me with any suggestions and I'll go from there. In the meantime, there's a "Steven Universe" fanfic I really want to get started on writing and if you guys are fans of that as well, you may want to check it out. For now, he's the new chapter. I think it's a good one and I hope you enjoy it. :)
News
The sun was now finally setting over the green blanket horizon as Roselinen was accompanying Finn back to Goldy's place and calling it a day. They barely spoke but they kept glancing at each other, mostly smiling.
Finn kept debating whether or not he should hold her hand and whenever he would come close to doing so, he would back out, thinking it would mean something else rather than what it usually was which was just a sign of friendship rather than affection. Rosey noticed this and just grabs it. Finn felt a little shudder go up his spine and noticed his sweaty hand now in the hands of the friendly pillow girl walking along him. He then noticed her face and she smiled that big smile she smiled when she first asked him to dance. His cheeks flushed once again and all he could really do was smile back and continue walking.
They approach the front door of Goldy's home lock eyes directly, hand slowly letting go of the other.
"So..." Finn looks at the ground. "I'm not exactly sure how long I'm going to be here, but...would you maybe like to do this again sometime?"
Rosey giggles, then playfully nudges his arm. "Of course, silly."
Finn laughs.
The door then immediately opens revealing Quilton as if out of nowhere.
"Well, puhoy there!"
"Oh, hi daddy!" Rosey said surprisingly. "Didn't know you were here."
"Well, where else would I be?" He then turns to Finn. "Oh, hello there, young Finn." he greeted.
"Sup?"
"I just got done with a meeting with Goldy about the new house we will be building soon. We just need more workers as well as tools and such." Once again, turning to the young flesh pillow next to his daughter. "Finn, would you maybe like to help us out with our little pillow situation?"
Finn seemed a little off-guard. "Oh, uh, sure, that'd be great. But I was just telling her that I'm not sure how long I'm going to be here, so..."
"Which reminds me," interrupted Quilton. "That's a subject matter I need to converse with you about, my boy." He turns back to his daughter. "Rosey, my dear, I'll be home in a few minutes. I need to have a word with Finn if you don't mind."
"I understand." replied Rosey. "Goodbye Finn! I had a great time!" And with that, she ran back down the road back home.
Finn waved at her. "Me too! See ya!" He slowly put his hand down but continued seeing the cute pillow girl run down with her hair slowly dancing in any direction it wanted. He smiled his fortieth smile.
"Finn?"
The human boy looked down at the small pillow gent who was waving him in. He does so and closes the door.
"Good evening Finn!" waved Goldy. "How was your first day?"
Quilton answered, "Well, from the looks of his face, I'd say he's had a rather pillow-tastic day with my beloved daughter, wouldn't you say?" He winked.
Finn chuckled nervously, "Oh, it was fine. She's very nice, by the way."
"She's a sweetheart, indeed." Quilton turns around and see's one of Goldy's portraits, one of himself sitting down with his beloved daughter hugging him by the head and laying her head on it. "Just like her mother." he smiled and remained quiet for what was actually a few seconds but felt longer than that.
"Uh, sir?" Goldy spoke in. This was enough to shake Quilton out of his thought process.
"Oh, right." he spoke. "Uh, you can go about your day now, Goldy. I have to have a word with your guest here for a bit and I will see you tomorrow, okey dokeys?"
"Thank you, sir." replied Goldy. "I'll see you in a bit, Finn." He waved and left for the kitchen. Finn waved back.
"Would you like to sit down?" Quilton asked. Finn turned around.
"Nah, I'm good, sir."
"Okay, I'm just asking because what I'm about to say may not be the best of news for you at this time." Quilton sat down on the sofa next to him. "You see, after you told me about this...'portal', me and Goldy went into the Pillow Library for more information on it and after several hours, we couldn't find anything. We're guessing it must be something supernatural that we yet have no knowledge of as of now. If I may ask, what did the portal look like, young Finn?"
"Well, it was a small door. It was orange and puffy and it had a white handle with a blue latch on it." How did I remember the latch?
"I see." Quilton looked down. "I ask because I believe this was the same portal another flesh pillow came here from and just like you, they were just as confused and like me right now, I couldn't do much to help them." He looked back up at the flesh pillow trying hard not to worry. "So I'm sorry I couldn't be of any help to you, young Finn."
Finn felt taken aback by all this. No information about the door? Another human here? What do I bring up first? So much for letting my mind fester. "So, what you're saying is I could be stuck here?"
"No, my boy." remarked Quilton. "I'm saying you are stuck here. That is, until we can send some pillow explorers to learn more about this now that it's happened again." Quilton got up from the sofa. "However, since we know what this door legitimately looks like, it should be a 'stitch' to get done." He chuckled at him own humor, Finn tried to chuckle back but his mind wouldn't let him.
"I'm sorry." Quilton said quietly. "I know you have a lot to think about and I hope this doesn't worry you so. We are a fine community and you could be very happy here. My daughter seems to like you as well, but it's all up to you. We'll keep you up to date on our discoveries and you're more than welcome to check in on us. Don't expect progress soon but just so you know we're trying our best to help you, son." He got his things set together. "I have to go home to my daughter now and you need some time alone, I bet." He raised his plushy hand toward him.
Finn took it and shook it gently. "Thanks Quilton."
They let go and Quilton headed for the door.
"Quilton?"
Just as Quilton opened the door, he looked back at Finn once more.
"Can I just ask, who was the flesh pillow that came before me?"
He let go of the door and sighed gently. Looking down at his little comforter suit, he reaches into his pockets and pulls something out. It looked like a blue toy envelope.
"Tell you what, you hang onto this and when you finally decide what it is you want, you open that and we'll discuss it."
Finn accepts the invitation and analyzes it. He sighs, "Okay."
"Goodbye, Finn." And with that, Quilton headed out the door and toward home.
Finn took a deep breath and exhaled heavily. He looked down at the toy envelope and felt it, not exactly knowing what to do next. He places his finger on the lid ready to unveil it but before doing so, remembers back to what the old pillow mayor just told him, ...when you finally decide what it is you want, whatever that meant. So he removes his finger off of it as well as his backpack, opening it and placing the envelope inside.
"Hey Finn, are you hungry?" Goldy called from across the room. "Dinner's ready!"
Finn glanced at his backpack, then at his sword, and then out the window. "Uh, yeah! I'll be right there!"
Everything Quilton told him was still fresh in his head but it wasn't really taking affect yet. He wondered what Jake and BMO were doing without him. Were they looking for him? Did they go inside the pillow fort? Can they find the door too? Or at least the tunnel that leads to the door? What was Flame Princess doing? Was she worried too? Did she ever get the joke he told her? Ugh, my head is hurting again. But there's so much to think about. Could I stay here? Everyone seems nice, and Roselinen's cool too. I guess I could for just a bit, until they discover more about the portal and then I can go home. I just hope it doesn't take too long. And I can always ask more about it. Yeah, I'll stay for a bit. And I can always try to find ways myself. I probs have stuff in my pack I can use. I gotta stay positive. I think that's what I want. Guess I'll look at that envelope now.
He goes back to his backpack.
But wait, what about Roselinen? She seems nice, pretty too. And if it really is over between me and Flame Princess, then...No. No! Don't start thinking that. I need to stop thinking now. Also, I'm kinda hungies right bout now. All right, Finn Mertens, go get some foods. Everything will look better after foods, even if it is pillow foods. Finn closes up the backpack and races into the other room where Goldy is now on seated, waiting for his human guest so they can commence eating.
Roselinen and Quilton are seated down to dinner on their own, pillows that resemble chicken legs with blue diamond designs on them. They nibbled quietly on them. Then Quilton put his stein down. "So, did you have a good day today, Rosey dear?"
Rosey immedialely put her food down and grinned. "Yes I did, daddy, it was wonderful! I made a new friend!" Her eyes closed in exuberance but her smile stayed intact.
"I saw, and I'm very happy for you, dear." said Quilton, his smile however going down just a tad bit. "Unfortunately, I had to give him some bad news today."
"What happened?" said Rosey curiously.
"Well, we couldn't find information on how to get him back home and there's a chance that he may have to stay here for a little while longer."
"That's awful." Rosey worried. "I hope he's okay."
"That's the thing. He may start to feel homesick after a while so we have to make sure he feels right at home during his stay." His smile came back and looked straight at Rosey. "In fact, I was wondering if you, Rosey dear, could help me out with that. Of course, I'll have Rosey and our pillow citizens help as well, but I'm sure he'll feel more comfortable around you."
Rosey loved this idea. "I'll make him feel extra special!"
"That's my girl." Quilton complimented. "You're just like your mother when you get that drive."
"I love it when you talk about Mom. Did she always want to help peeps?"
"Of course she did, angel" Quilton took a sip from his stein. "She always made sure everyone had a smile on her face and she was always there for me when I felt down and unsure and she always said-"
Rosey interrupted because she loved this part. "Pillows and blankets can keep you warm for a while, but love does it for a lifetime."
Quilton chucked, "That's right, sweetheart. You got it."
"Then I shall make Mom proud!" Rosey got up, then spread her wings and "flew" out of the kitchen, all while making engine noises with her mouth. She poked her head back in however. "Can I be excused?"
"Yes, of course, dear."
"Thanks daddy!" She then went back to planes and engine noises. She always felt younger when she was excited. She now had a drive, to make her new friend, the hero boy named Finn, the happiest boy in the pillow universe, and only she can do that. Well, her and a lot of other people, but mostly her, darn it! She wanted him to be happy.
Meanwhile, her father finished eating, but before doing so, whispered the words, "You already do, my dear."
You already do.
