KITTY!
Kuroko lived a lonely life at home when he was not working with children in school. So Riko gave him a basket with a heterochromatic eyed red kitty in it. Seems normal right?
Pairing: Akashi x Kuroko
Disclaimer: I don't own KuroBasu!
AN: I found it kinda amusing on the number of reviews that talked about how they were caught off guard when they read the story. The plot and title seems a bit misleading.
Might have to change that or maybe keep it as it is.
Chapter 4
SCRATCH!
"Ouch!" The bluenette got up with a start, causing the feline on his face to fall off ungracefully to the ground with an unhappy growl. "Akashi-kun..." Kuroko glanced at the cat with an irritated expression on his face.
The feline gave its own version of a playful smirk before stretching itself. Sickening cracks were heard throughout the room. Knowing what was coming next, Kuroko closed his eyes and covered them with his hands for extra measure. No matter how many times he's seen it, the transformation from cat to human was always so... traumatizing to watch.
The sounds didn't make in any better.
The kindergarten teacher knew it was over when he felt a hand poke the back of his head.
"You know, you can open your eyes now." A masculine said amusedly. Kuroko shook his head.
"Not until you put some clothes on." The bluenette replied as he continued shielding his eyes from his naked companion. "I bought some the other day. They're inside the bathroom."
He could feel the other shrug and get off the bed. "Alright then." And heard the man walk away into the bathroom and close the door.
Kuroko gave a sigh of relief and opened his blank blue eyes.
Life for the two unlikely companions has been like that for the past 3 days. Akashi would wake Kuroko up in the most uncomfortable way then transform into the human, Seijuro. The first time he did that was when the bluenette was cooking and the man gave him a hug from behind and stayed there for a while.
The bluenette gave the creepiest and scariest glare he had to to Seijuro as he ordered the man to put some clothes on. The red head simply smiled and followed the snappy order.
That little incident lead to a weird breakfast conversation.
"Do you burn buildings down and kill people without clothes on?" The bluenette asked seriously.
Seijuro gave the young man a slightly exasperated look. "You find out your cat was originally human and kills people behind your back yet that is your first question?"
"It's a question that deserves an answer." Kuroko simply said before sipping his coffee. The taller male found the whole thing amusing. He wondered just how come it was so easy for the bluenette to ask such a question with a straight face.
"...It isn't that hard for a cat to steal clothes..." Was all Seijuro said before he moved on to another matter.
Kuroko sighed. He was still very conflicted about the matter.
His pet cat was actually a human being who killed people.
And his name was Seijuro.
The bluenette pondered yet again on how strange his life had become when he finally had a companion to be with outside of school.
This was all Aida's fault.
Leaving the bathroom unnoticed, Seijuro walked back in with a simple t-shirt and jeans on and dragged the shorter male to the kitchen so they could have breakfast already.
"So," The red head started as he took a seat. "How much do you remember?"
Kuroko took out the utensils and bowls and placed them on the table." Remember what?"
"You know, events like the death of your dog," If Seijuro hadn't been observing Kuroko closely, he would've missed the slight flinch.
"Not that much." Came the soft reply. The bluenette was obviously very uncomfortable with the subject at hand so he chose to distract himself by pouring some warm tea for himself and his companion. "My head hurts a bit from remembering that incident and I keep seeing blurry figures whenever I close my eyes. I can't focus on anything that my subconscious is trying to tell me."
"Well, I suppose I should've expected that response." The half feline hummed as he gratefully accepted the beverage from Kuroko. "Those pills were the real stuff since I was the one who made them."
"Pills?"
Seijuro raised a brow at him. "The ones your parents gave you for your allergies."
"…They weren't for allergies." Kuroko muttered with a heavy feeling.
"Not at all." Came the reply. " I don't think you even had any allergies in the first place. How long has it been since you've taken them?"
"It's been 5 years... I'd say around the time mother died." The shorter male said as he put his half-empty cup down.
"Then hopefully, it shouldn't take long before you start screaming bloody murder at me." It was strange how light and relaxed the other male's voice sounded even with such a serious subject.
Seijuro gave a humorless smile. "I doubt you'll remember anytime soon but you've met me countless of times before. It was quite a surprise to see that you were still alive when you came under my watch."
Kuroko tilted his head to the side in confusion. "I beg your pardon?"
"I worked with your mother before I decided that things were going too far." The red head explained. "The pills made you forget events in your life that could destroy your young, impressionable mind."
"But I'll start remembering them?" Kuroko asked.
"Of course. Hopefully by then, you won't shut the door at my face and ignore me for a good few weeks or throw a basketball at me." He stated with a fond expression.
The bluenette stared hard at Seijuro "You speak as though you've known me for years."
"That's what I said, right? I have met you, just many, many years ago." The taller male replied. "I still remember all the stats and information I gathered from you when you were a child. From your physical capabilities to your mental restraints. I know how to make you emotionally and psychologically unstable in a matter of minutes. I still remember just what makes you tick."
After a few moments of tense silence, Seijuro ruffled his hair and automatically, Kuroko smacked the hand away from reflex.
"See? You never were fond of people playing with your gorgeous bed hair."
"Please don't do that again, Akashi-kun." Kuroko stared at Seijuro who was grinning all the way.
"It's funny how you're always polite." The former scientist chuckled. "Your mother was anything but polite. I suppose you got that from your father. He was always quiet and curt just like you."
"…Did he know?" Kuroko asked quietly.
"Of course not." The reply came automatically. "No one outside of the organization knew about the experiments other than children."
"Children?" A secretive smile formed on Seijuro's face while Kuroko repeated the word with a slightly higher note. "Children?"
"Yes, children."
"I wasn't the only one being experimented on?"
The red head gave him a bored expression. "Don't worry, you were the only one. None of the other doctors wanted their children to go through something like you did."
"What did you and mom do to me?"
"A lot of things." Seijuro answered serenely. "I'll tell you about a few of them. The more interesting ones."
The man walked forward and stared at the young woman with a cold look.
"What makes you any different from them?"
The girl's lips quivered but she held her ground. "I know their plans. I am a first account witness of what they….. what we have done."
"That is rather questionable, isn't it?" The hooded figure asked. The hostage could only catch a glimpse of the frightening right red eye of the murderer.
"I don't know how you managed to gather so much information but," The woman took a deep breath. "They are trying to merge genes of other species into a human's."
"You think I don't know that?"
"They've almost succeeded." Silence gathered into the room for a few minutes.
"Impossible."
"You've been able to hinder them for so long but a brilliant mind had joined the group a month ago. He says that he has the formula and solution to giving chosen characteristics of an animal to a human. Don't you see that that's incredible?! This will save a lot of people!"
"Your little group kidnapped millions of people from around the globe and slaughtered them."
"It's a little sacrifice." The woman said almost maniacally. "I would willingly give my child for the name of science."
"Which you already did." The woman flinched and glared at him.
"How do you know that?"
"I have my sources."
"You be quiet!" The woman screamed. "All those who worked with me in making my son evolve into a more capable being have been killed by you! They would never speak a word of it, even when threatened."
"They didn't."
The other started muttering incoherent things to herself.
"What's the name of this brilliant mind who has entered into your field of expertise?" The man spoke up with a heavily bored tone.
"Rakuzan." She hissed. "His name is Rakuzan. But you won't get anything out of him anymore."
"Oh? And why not?"
"Because he's been missing for the past 3 days already. He's gone into hiding with all his knowledge."
"Weren't you proud of having such a 'brilliant mind' at your midst?"
"I still am. He's still working on the formula and when he finds it – he'll contact me. I'll show the whole world just what half-breeds are capable of – "
"Let's make a deal." 'Akashi' smirked.
Withholding a shiver, the woman replied, "What?"
"This is an interesting twist." Hyuuga commented as he turned the next page.
"I knew you would enjoy it." Kiyoshi grinned pleasantly as he flipped through the channels of the TV.
"I'm a little worried about how she added a child to the main story though." The four eyed man remarked, still reading. "But I guess I should've expected it to happen sooner or later."
"There's a larger variety of characters compared to her last book which will attract more readers." Kiyoshi said. "She never added a victim as a main character so it's a nice change to see. The readers will be able to understand what the poor innocents who've been abused by the antagonists have been through and how they feel."
"Obviously more gore and torture scenes will be written down in the next books." Hyuuga remarked as he flipped another page.
"Well since we're talking about such an unpleasant topic, the police department, the military and other government agencies are on high alert this month."
"Is it about that group of scientists coming here?"
"Yup! They're worried that something will happen and it could ruin the relationships Japan has with the other countries."
"You mean they still haven't found the imitator?" Kiyoshi perked up at the question.
"Hyuuga, you think that the serial killer we have right now is only imitating someone?"
"Isn't it obvious? The man is obviously imitating Akashi from this little book I'm reading."
The brunet became quiet and looked to be thinking hard about something so his black haired colleague opted to just keep reading the book.
It was going to go on sale in a few days' time so the company was doing some last minute check-ups on the covers of the books, pages and content.
You never really know if something wrong was overlooked.
"Hey Hyuuga, what if the serial killer is Akashi?" A solemn voice asked out of nowhere.
Hyuuga actually didn't know how to answer that so he just gave a reply of "hn."
"It makes sense, doesn't it?"
"Yeah but," He bit his lip a little before continuing. "This Akashi disappeared a good 10-15 years ago. All those deaths were done by a professional who knew how to hack into the government, torture people and hide all the evidence without a trace so the guy had to be 30 or even 40 to be able to that kind of stuff."
"He should've been rusty by now due to age if not for the lack of using his abilities for the last several years." Hyuuga continued explaining. "Technology has evolved and it's so easy to take a picture of suspicious characters now. Only someone who knows the modern world would be able to give the cops a hard time."
"But that's what it makes it scary right?" Kiyoshi piped up. "If it were the same Akashi doing all these things and was still not getting caught."
"I'll humor you and say that this killer is the same Akashi from a decade ago. The police are in deep shit because I doubt no one's going to stop this man from gutting the scientists who are walking to their death at this very moment."
"Have you seen my daddy?" A little girl asked the man who worked with her daddy. She hadn't seen him for a while now but she could recognize him from anywhere.
"I haven't seen Mr. Moi, child." The young man said as he patted her head gently. "But if I see him, I'll tell him that his beautiful daughter is looking for him, alright?"
"Okay," The girl replied with a cheeky smile. "Thank you. Tell him I'll be at the playroom with Phanny."
"Phanny?" The male asked.
"Phanny's a new kid. His mommy brought him here last week since no one was going to take care of him at home." She said. "I have a new playmate now. It's always so lonely there because I used to be the only one there."
"Would his mother happen to be Mrs. Black?"
"Oh yes! She's very nice. She lets Phanny bring his puppy dog with him."
"Well, it's good to know you're having fun."
An airport in a distant land
"Are you sure that you're all packed up?"
"Yah, Reo-nii! I've got everything I need and you asked the question like 5 times already! Go bug Nebuya or something." The messy haired scientist whined loudly.
"Mayuzumi's with him so he should be fine." Mibuchi rolled his eyes at his companion's antics. "They should be here in a few more minutes. They had to buy more meat for Nebuya since he ate it all while on the way here. How about our other colleagues?"
"Imayoshi and Hanamiya are at the airport already. They're still having their bags checked though." Hayama answered while reading through the text messages. "Moriyama should be around here somewhere but he's probably flirting around again."
"What about Kasamatsu?"
"He went to check with the pilot. Apparently they're acquaintances."
"Kasamatsu knows Kise Ryouta?" Mibuchi asked incredulously. It seemed rather strange for the uptight man to know someone as flamboyant as the former model.
"They're college friends." Hayama replied nonchalantly before turning his phone off. "Well, other than Nebuya and Mayuzumi, everyone's here now."
"That's good." The taller male gave a sigh of relief. "Things are going to get dangerous once we get to Japan."
"What's got you so worried? Everything will be fine!"
"I honestly hope so."
"Heeeey!" A Kansai accented yell echoed throughout the waiting area. "You guys are here early!"
"Reo-nee woke me up at like three in the morning!" Hayama complained as he jumped up from his seat and ran to the four eyed doctor. "And it's all Imayoshi's fault!"
Mibuchi frowned a little at the older man who chose to grin at them. "The map you gave us was incorrect."
"I know." Imayoshi chuckled with ill humor.
Hanamiya grunted from behind Imayoshi. "Don't laugh idiot. You got us stuck in traffic because of that stupid map of yours."
"Hey, hey! At least we're here now and with at least half an hour to spare!"
"Don't call me Akashi whenever I'm in this form." Seijuro ordered as they left the home of Kuroko. "I don't want anyone getting too suspicious."
"I understand….. Seijuro-kun." Kuroko nodded, a little confused at how strange the name sounded on his lips. "But I must ask, why are you accompanying me to meet Midorima-kun?"
"Just curious." Seijuro replied. Kuroko looked at him suspiciously. "Don't worry, I won't kill him."
"Why do you speak about such matters so lightly?"
"I don't." Seijuro replied just as stoically as Kuroko. "Don't assume that I do."
Kuroko internally frowned and knew that he was stepping over some boundaries but couldn't stop himself from asking, "Then why are you taking people's lives like that?"
"My own personal grudge and I'm saving humanity from its own destruction." The serious tone he used made his shorter companion pause for a moment.
Kuroko gave Seijuro a blank stare. "I never thought you were one to say such nonsense."
"It's not nonsense. What I say is absolute." Seijuro stated.
"Alright," The bluenette was actually still unsure about the whole thing since it was all so absurd but his companion was the epitome of absurdity so he had no right to question it. "But really, Seijuro-kun? You have a grudge?"
"I don't easily hold a grudge against people, Tetsuya." Peculiarly, his name seemed to just roll of the taller male's tongue with ease. "And it's even more difficult to make me resent a large group of people."
"I'll tell you some of my past grievances in the future." Seijuro promised. "After you remember all the wonderful things your mother got you into during your childhood."
"Why do you hate my mother?"
"That's a story to tell some other time. Now hush. I don't like talking about such distasteful beings so early in the morning. Call over a taxi."
Midorima felt himself shiver when he heard the door to his office open.
Kuroko had just texted him that he would arrive in a few minutes and that he brought a companion with him.
The doctor expected to see the heterochromatic cat.
He got a heterochromatic human instead.
"It's a pleasure to meet you Doctor Midorima." The man was only slightly taller than Kuroko but had an aura that demanded utmost respect.
With a narrowed gaze, Midorima replied. "The pleasure is all mine…."
"Seijuro." The man replied pleasantly while giving him a peculiar glance.
What a strange man.
"Good morning, Midorima-kun," The sound of his name being called out of nowhere made him flinch in surprise and snap his head at Kuroko whose presence he had forgotten about (again).
"Yes, good morning Kuroko. Let's finish your check-up quickly so that we'll be able to find out if the mediocre amount of sustenance you take every day is enough to satisfy your body's daily needs." Midorima said snappily.
Blank eyes stared at him. "There's nothing wrong with the amount of food I take."
"It is atrociously small for someone like you. I can't have you collapsing in front of children again." The green haired male lead the short bluenette to his equipment and started his work. "It will leave a bad impression."
"Does Midorima-kun have a girlfriend already?"
"Excuse me?!"
"I remember you mentioning that you liked older women when we were in middle school. Are your preferences still the same?"
"Kuroko, I'm busy!"
While the two bantered noisily, Seijuro walked around the room with a bored expression on his face.
"Where did your cat bite you?"
"I don't remember. The wound disappeared days ago."
"You don't remember?!"
"It's useless information. I need to make sure my mind has enough capacity to remember the names and personalities of over 94 children."
"What? You're being unreasonable, Kuroko. Was your cat even vaccinated? You should've brought your pet here really!"
"No need to worry, Doctor Midorima." Seijuro piped up as he took a seat from beside the doctor's desk. "His feline is completely safe, free from any disease or germs that may harm Tetsuya and is hygienic."
The charming smile unnerved Midorima. Something was just wrong with it. He turned to look at Kuroko who looked as blank as ever.
What was up with these two?
"I'll have to see the written documents from the cat's vet or from the shop the cat was bought from." Midorima said seriously.
"Is that really necessary?" There it was.
Midorima didn't know why but when he received the invitation to join this group of people who were going to research about an unnamed subject, he felt a chill.
And he was feeling the exact same chill again by looking at Kuroko's companion in the eyes.
"It's alright, Seijuro-kun." Kuroko's voice breaks the frightening tension of the room. The red head's attention turned towards the patient. "I'm sure it's alright with Midorima-kun to take your word for it. It's already too much trouble to get them all."
"We can simply rely on this check-up." Midorima didn't know why but he couldn't help but recognize a silent plea in Kuroko's voice.
A plea for him to just stop.
Something was terribly wrong.
"I suppose." He relented with an ungrateful scowl. "But I'll have to get a sample of your blood to study."
Midorima turned around and marched off to get a test tube so he didn't notice the slight twitch of annoyance from Seijuro and worried glance from Kuroko.
"KASAMATSUUUU~~~~" A hyperactive blonde jumped up in the air in great excitement to hug his former schoolmate but received a horribly painful kick to the face instead.
"What the hell's your problem?!" Kasamatsu growled as kicked the poor man reflexively.
"I haven't seen in you in so long yet…." The former model sniffed. "Yet, you greet me with a kick to the face!"
"You're annoying." The shorter male commented as the other continued to sniffle and sob dramatically. He probably shouldn't have kicked the pilot. Can't have the man driving the plane become injured. "Though you seem to be having fun with your job."
The tears instantly disappeared and the man got up again with renewed enthusiasm. "Of course! I get to visit so many beautiful places whenever I'm on break and I get to meet all kinds of people."
"I see."
"I'll be on break for a good few weeks after I bring you and your super secret boy band to Japan! I'll be able to visit Kurokocchi, Aominecchi, Midorimacchi, Murasakibarrachi, Kagamicchi – "
"I get it." Kasamatsu cut in with an annoyed sigh. "But have you heard what's happening in and around Japan?"
"Oh yeah…" Kise's face looked solemn. "I think the whole gang's fine in Japan but you better be careful. Some maniac's going on a rampage. Why are you going to Japan in the first place?"
"I got invited." The older male replied. "So did the other nut heads I'm going with and we were told to come as a group. I didn't want to go because I still had a lot of work to do around here but Hanamiya seemed insistent in coming to Japan. Pretty weird of him."
"I don't know Hanamiya Makoto-san that well so I wouldn't know."
Kasamatsu's lips formed a thin line. "Let's just say that he's a bastard."
"You call almost everyone a bastard."
"He's more bastard than anyone else I've ever met."
"Can you actually use the word like that?!"
Murasakibara found himself baking a large amount of pastries.
It was awfully tempting to not eat them already after getting them out of the oven but this was for Kise-chin who always brought home yummy chocolates from abroad.
"Hey, Murasakibara!" A colleague of his called out. "I need you to take over the cashier for a few minutes. The boss needs me to do some errands. I hope you don't mind."
Without giving a response, Murasakibara left his unfinished batter and walked out of the kitchens after taking off his apron. Many of the customers gave him bewildered stares because of his height but he ignored them.
"What would your order be?" He asked lazily to the only customer lined up.
"I'd like the vanilla ghost cake, Mu-kun!" A familiar bubbly voice rang.
Murasakibara's eyes brightened. "Sa-chin!"
"Trash." A young boy sneered distastefully at the forgotten corpses lying on the ground. "Just trash."
"I'll have you know that this 'trash' is the very reason why the information your parents are researching to find is getting easier to find." Rakuzan murmured loud enough for the child to hear.
"You!" The boy's eyes narrowed at the sight of the suspicious man and took a few steps backward. "They said you went missing and got yourself killed by that Akashi guy!"
"Don't believe everything you hear." Rakuzan smiled. "Facts get mixed up with crap and bullshit."
"..." The boy gaped at him. "You swore..."
"Hm," The man seemed to be surprised himself. "It seems that I did."
"You know that woman's been looking through your stuff ever since you allegedly 'died'."
"The solution's not there. The whole thing will blow over within 5 months."
"How do YOU know?"
"My word is absolute." Rakuzan said bluntly. "Now will little Mako-chan go back to his daddy now? I wouldn't want anything happening here. It doesn't seem to be that suspicious to find a dead body in this graveyard of bodies after all."
'Mako-chan' looked alarmed and ran for the exit to leave but not without saying, "It's still trash."
The door shut with a loud bang, leaving Rakuzan to his thoughts.
'I wonder if you're talking about these dead bodies,' He thought with an amused expression as he listened to the boy run away. 'Or those people I once worked with? Or he's referring to me...?'
"Maybe all of the above." He spoke out to no one in particular
End of Chapter.
OMAKE
"Oh my... you sure know a lot!" A pretty woman blushed at the charming smile Moriyama gave her.
"I've studied this for years, m'lady and I'm very sure that you're - "
BAM!
"I'm sorry but I need my colleague right now." Kasamatsu said bluntly to the woman with a polite bow before running away with the unconscious man by dragging him by the arm.
"Where are you?! You've got like 8 minutes to get to the plane!" Mibuchi yelled from the phone Kasamatsu had between his ear and shoulder.
"Well excuse me! I had to find this womanizing bastard and he was at the entrance flirting with one of the workers! Give me like 3 minutes! I'll be there with the idiot!"
OMAKE 2
"I'm so glad to know you're taking all this very well." Seijuro said.
Kuroko suddenly remembered what happened earlier that day.
"Why are you trying to burn my books!" His fellow teacher started dragging him away from her sacred treasures. "What have they ever done to you!"
"I'm trying to release all my frustrations about my cat."
"BY BURNING MY BOOKS!? What do my books have to do with your cat!?"
"Everything. Absolutely everything."
"...I don't think I'm handling it quite well." Kuroko said honestly. "But I suppose I'll be fine in a couple of more days."
Later that day...
"Kagami-kun, would you happen to know where I can find an unbreakable cage?" Kuroko asked when he heard Kagami pick up his phone.
"Huh? Why? Is it for your cat?"
"Yes. Akashi-kun keeps leaving the house and I don't know what dangerous things he's doing when he's out."
"Wait, what? Isn't it normal for cats to do that?"
"My cat is a thrill seeker. He kills mice and likes talking about it when he comes home then he won't answer all my questions about where the mouse came from, why did you kill the mouse if you weren't even going to eat it and why can't you just leave it alone and let it rest in peace?"
"Kuroko - "
"Then Akashi-kun would just smile - "
"Do cats even smile?!"
" - And try to act all innocent."
Suddenly, Kuroko felt a hand on his shoulder. "What was that, Tetsuya?"
The bluenette didn't react at all to the surprise appearance of Seijuro but the man on the other side of the line seemed alarmed.
"Kuroko?! Who's that?!"
"I'll talk to you later."
"HEY! KURO - "
He hung up.
AN:My cousin just found out about my alternate identity on the internet.
I didn't even know she read my fanfiction and when she was scanning through my pc she found this chapter, ran to me and screamed
"IKAW PALA SIYA!" (You were her all along!)
"ANO?"(WHAT?)
"Bakit hindi mo sinabi na ikaw yung nagsulat ng mga yan" (Why didn't you tell me that you were the one who wrote all those?)
"Ano ang pinagsasabihan mo diyan?!" (What the hell are you saying?!)
"YOU ARE OBSIDIAN ABYSS" (she finally spoke english)
"Oh, yeah." (So I did too)
I made her keep it a secret. She freaked out on me and now she's angry and trying to get me to tell her all my deep dark secrets.
