If you haven't seen Episode 1, of the new season you may not want to read this. Though I am sure everyone saw the photo of Charming and Snow holding a very wet Emma - its basically a deeper version of that. I felt they skipped over it a little fast in the episode.
I just want to say thank you so much for all the reviews, favourites and follows. They mean a lot, I would have stopped writing this long ago if it wasn't for you guys. So THANK YOU!
David watched as Emma stood on the side of the ship. Any anger that he was feeling towards the Pirate disappeared immediately, seeing her fall into the violent sea made his heart drop into the stomach.
"EMMA!" Snow yelled her voice laced with pain. Hearing that pain in Snow's voice was another kick for David, it took him back to the time when he had to take a very new baby Emma out of her arms. He was determined they were not going to lose her again, not like this. David would not hear that pain in his wife's voice again. They barely managed to get though the last time they lost her.
Without really thinking about he jumped on the side, ready to follow his daughter. It wasn't until Hook, of all people, made him realize that it wasn't a sensible idea. David was going into the water and he was going to save Emma, even if he lost his life in the process. Unfortunately Hook made a good point; David dying wasn't going to be much help to Emma. Relenting he move off the side of the ship long enough for the group of previous enemies coming together to help him and Snow save their daughter.
To David, the time it took for them to get the rope sorted and around him felt like a life time, every second they took, it was a second long Emma was under the water. When finally they were done he went back to the ledge, with one finally look back at Snow, which he hoped said everything he wanted to if they would have been alone. "He will save her." David jumped into the murky waters below.
The coldness hit him like a thousand needles; with all his might David tried to ignore the pain. Emma. That's who he needed to think about. It worked for him, as soon as his daughters name went though his head, the pain from the cold water disappeared, however it did not remove the pain from his heart.
He inched open his eyes, once again ignoring the screams of protest that his eyes were giving as the salt water hit them. Swimming around for any sign of Emma, he hoped with all his might that she hadn't floated too far away from the boat. David's lungs were already running out of air, he knew that he might have to resurface for more oxygen if he didn't spot Emma shortly.
It was then he caught sight of some blond movement, forgetting where he was he almost called out to her, stopping himself just in time. With all the strength David could muster he swam towards her. It didn't look good; she was facing down her limps floating by her side and head bending towards her chest. On top of it all she seemed to be floating downwards.
David knew that he was running out of air, his vision was starting to go. All he could do was focus on Emma, which was the key to getting both of them out of here. When he managed to finally grab her hand it gave his body much needed adrenaline. As soon as Emma was in his arms, he kicked with everything he had.
It was not going to end this way, Emma would survive, they would find Henry and they would finally be a family. The kind of family he and Snow dreamed of when they first got together. Emma would know what it was like to be loved by her own parents, never mind what age everyone was.
David reached the surface just in time, not knowing how much longer he could have survived without any. Though if he thought it was cold under the water, it was nothing of how cold it seemed now.
Looking up at Snow, who was leaning so far over the edge of the boat she was in danger of joining her husband and daughter, David saw the flick of emotions of her face. They were all easy to read, first one was relief at seeing both of them; the second was fear and pain upon noticing Emma lack of consciousness.
David was holding Emma up completely in his arms, her head resting on his shoulders. He couldn't help but think that any other time or situation and this might be nice to be able to hold her like this, maybe to comfort her when she needed to be. However this was not that time, he needed to get up back to the boat. His mind did not want to register the fact that she was not breathing. "It's going to be fine Emma; you are going to be fine." David wasn't sure if he said this more for himself, as the person it was directed to could not currently hear him. She will though, he was sure of it.
The whole group helped him get Emma back to the boat; Snow immediately took her daughter into her arms, whilst David took the other side. Together they held their daughter "Come on Emma." He heard Snow say between the CPR routine. Almost as if she was trying to will the life back into her.
Everything around his family disappeared, even at how cold he originally was. David's entire focus was on Emma, being slightly glad that his face was already wet as he could feel tears rolling on his cheeks. They couldn't and wouldn't lose her; his eternal optimism also wouldn't fail, not when he needed his hope and faith to the most.
Finally Emma started coughing up the water in her lungs, both her parents lifting her into a sitting positions smiling and crying openly. David looked up and Snow, he nodded his head. They would be okay. If they are together, they could get though anything.
Whether Emma wanted it or not she received a massive hug from the two people sitting beside her. The old Emma would have wanted to run, or at least flinch away from them, but this Emma. The new Emma was the one who was loved, who had family. Even though her words earlier said something entirely different, she knew she had been wrong. These people were her parents, and funny enough she was okay with that. It's funny what nearly dying can do to change a person's mind.
