The sunlight peering through the window gently touched her skin. The sound of a bird's song caressed her ears, but she still didn't want to open her eyes. Someone's fingers traced up and down her back and the touching was light as a feather. Her arm was wrapped around that someone's middle and her head was resting on his smooth, tanned chest. She could feel his heartbeat and that sound was the most calming one she'd ever heard. Lucrezia smiled in that moment, because she knew that he couldn't see her smile.
Her eyes were still closed, but she didn't allow herself to move a muscle even. Something told her that in the moment she did it, the magic of the moment would be over. However, she wanted to stay like this forever. His arms were wrapped around her, protecting her better than ever. His lips gently touched the top of her head from time to time, and she was wondering since when he was awake. She had waited for someone to love her like this for so long that right now, she still felt it as something too unreal to be true.
"I know you're awake," his voice interrupted her thoughts and she looked up to see his face. A hint of guilt and embarrassment in his eyes, but he hadn't pulled back yet. "Morning, my love."
"Don't!" Her trembling fingers reached to touch his chin in a gentle caress. "Please, don't."
"Don't… what?" His hand was still on her back, moving up and down and Lucrezia took a deep breath before she could answer.
"I don't feel sorry," she looked deep into his eyes. "I know how wrong this is, but… right now I don't care. Like I've said last night, people are already talking. Well, let them talk!"
Cesare gave her a smile and that smile melted her heart again. Yes, she knew what the people were talking. She knew how they've whispered of his heart of stone, but she could never see him in that way. She could never see him as the guy with the bloody hands, took the life of so many already. That was her… brother, the love of her life. Somehow, that was the most important person in her life.
"You're not worried of what our father would say then?" Cesare raised his brow. "Or… your husband?"
"Stop!" She put her fingers on his lips. "Let's not talk about this, alright?" Lucrezia trembled when he kissed the place where her fingers were touching his mouth. The love in his eyes, when he was looking at her was so pure that she felt somewhat able to do everything right now. "You and me. This is what matters at the moment."
"He hurt you?" Cesare's voice was somewhat casual when he asked her, but she knew she had to be very careful in her answer. "Lucrezia? Did he hurt you somehow?"
"No," she was hurry to answer.
"Are you sure?" His eyes narrowed and now she could see that dangerous side of him. He was way overprotective when it came to her. It was strange how she loved it right now. It made her feel like the most loved person in the whole Italy.
"Yes," she leaned on her elbows and rested her chin on his one. "I was the one who hurt him, not the other way around."
"You can't hurt him!" He stated it and he sounded so sure in himself that Lucrezia laughed. "What?" Cesare blinked and in the next moment she was lying under him. "Why are you laughing?" His lips touched her nose.
"Just… I love you," her trembling fingers touched his chin again and her laugh turned into a soft smile. "Never forget that."
"How could I?" He whispered close to her lips just before he could kiss her.
The sound of the awakening Rome was peering through the windows. The morning sunlight caressed their naked bodies and the birds kept singing outside. But the two people in the room didn't care about that. They didn't care about anything except their love towards each other. A love, that was forbidden.
