Chapter 3

(Renesmee POV)

Carlisle opened his mouth to speak and Bella abruptly interrupted.
"What the fuck is an immortal child doing on our territory?!" she snapped.
She began charging towards Ophelia and I jumped in front of my new friend.
"Mom stop! Ophelia isn't an immortal child! She's eleven and has never hunted a human! She's only been reborn for a month!" I yelled defensively.
"Renesmee, the Volturi will not believe us a second time. They will kill us if we allow Ophelia to live. She looks like an immortal child and there is no proof other than her word to prove otherwise. I'm sorry but she cannot remain on our territory" Carlisle said gently.
I looked at my grandfather and felt my heart fall to my feet. He was so kind and compassionate. He was so fair I couldn't believe his lies about being damned to hell.
"It's okay Renesmee. I'll be fine on my own. I can hunt animals and hide from humanity. Goodbye and I won't bother your family again" Ophelia whispered from behind me.
The eternal sadness and despair struck my soul and I whirled around to face her.
"No, Ophelia. You can't be alone. Not now with no one protecting you" I stated quickly. I then turned to my family and said,
"If you send her away, I'm going too. I'm not leaving her undefended. She is still a child, no matter how old or wise she is. It's not fair and it's not right. I won't allow her to suffer the scrutiny I was put under as a baby."
I looked at my mother, then at my father and family who'd all emerged from the house. I then glanced at Jake and his expression was gut-wrenching.
"Jake I'm sorry if this hurts you but I can't leave her. Come with me if you have to, but I'm going if she is" I whispered.
My lover whined and a piece of my heart was wrenched. I looked away from him and caught my father's eye. He was staring at me confused and suddenly I heard
I can't believe she has Bella's stubbornness. Of all the things to inherit, why that? Both are the same in protecting things that get them killed.
I raised my eyebrow and thought towards him I know I nearly killed Mom but unless you've turned into Alice, you don't know for certain that staying with Ophelia will get me killed.
My father stared at me stunned and I waited for him to say something.
"Carlisle, all of our friends will stand with us if we need them too. The Volturi are weak because Demetri was killed five hours ago and Heidi bolted after watching it. Demetri broke the law and revealed himself in the middle of Volterra. Aro found out that he had been rejected by Heidi and was refused his destruction. I watched it happen. Heidi's headed here now" Alice chimed in, sounding both confused and perky.
I looked at her and saw that my entire family was doing the same. I then looked at Carlisle. Esmé walked down the steps to join him and took hold of his hand.
"She's right Carlisle. We have lots of friends, and family who will help us if we ask" she whispered calmly.
I stared at my grandparents silently pleading then Carlisle looked away from his wife and looked at me.
"I don't believe now is the time to start refusing you" he said with a smile.
I grinned back at him and launched myself towards him then wrapped my arms around him so tightly I swear I should have bruised. He laughed and gently returned my embrace.
Renesmee, thank you. No one has ever shown so much care towards me in my entire life Ophelia thought towards me, her mental 'voice' an octave higher than her real one. I turned and saw Ophelia smiling at me through Vampire tears.
Come here little Vampire I thought smiling back at her.
Ophelia ran towards me and clung to me like a limpet. I lifted her into my arms and clutched her close. The world disappeared for those few precious moments and I knew, in my heart, mind and soul that I'd done the best thing in my entire life. My Aunt Rosalie's voice broke through my thoughts and I looked back at where my family had been.
"Nessie, we've got to go inside" Rosalie called, the only one still outside.
She was smiling at me with kind understanding and I knew she had been on my side since the beginning. I put Ophelia back on the floor then took her hand and we walked inside. Rosalie wrapped her arm around my shoulders and kissed my forehead.
"You did great, Renesmee. You've got you're mother's courage" she murmured as we stepped inside.

(Alice POV)

The vision was different from the others. It was like I'd seen the thought pattern behind Heidi's movements even though that was not how my ability worked. I saw the outcomes not the decision itself. As soon as Demetri was killed, I'd seen it, since I'd been tracking the Volturi's movement since our previous confrontation, but that was normal. What I didn't understand was that I'd seen Heidi packing her belongings into a suitcase, then her talking to the Twins and Felix

Start of the Vision

Heidi threw her Volturi crested necklace to the other side of the room and ran to her room. She began to throw her wardrobe full of clothes into an open suitcase, not caring if it was hers or Felix's. Her bedroom door flew open and Jane appeared in the doorway. Heidi spun around to face her.
"Master Caius requests your presence in the throne room, Heidi" she said bluntly then confusion swept across her face and she asked, "Where are you going? Are you running away?"
Heidi nodded once then resumed throwing her clothing into the bag, with as little care and attention as a mortal child. Behind her two more sets of footsteps came charging towards her door but she didn't care enough to look behind to see whom it was.
"Heidi, where on earth do you think you're going?" Felix asked, grabbing her wrists.
"I'm leaving because Aro is going to kill me after he reads my mind. I watched him kill Demetri and its my fault. We both know how infatuated he was over me, he made a move and I turned him down. He was so heartbroken he asked our Masters to kill him. Obviously they refused so he showed himself in the middle of Volterra. I've got to leave because I've become a liability. Felix, my love I'm sorry. Goodbye" Heidi whispered softly, sounding broken-hearted.
"Then I'm coming with you" Felix stated adamantly.
Heidi shook her head sadly.
"If you go, Aro will know that you are also a liability, Felix. He will hunt the both of you down and kill you" Jane said apathetically.
"If you must leave Felix, follow her when Caius demands you track her down. We of course will be chose to accompany you. Then we hide and never return, leaving the Volturi weak and unguarded" Alec added.
Heidi turned to face the three of them. She smiled at the little family she'd created, glad to know that they were on her side.
"Alright. I'll be heading to the Cullen coven. I'll prepare them for the attack, although Alice will probably already know I'm headed towards them. Farewell guys" Heidi stated as she zipped her suitcase closed.
She kissed Felix passionately but briefly then kissed both of the twins on the forehead as she bolted down the hallways and out of the Volturi castle.

End Vision

Jasper eyed me curiously from across the living room and I smiled at him innocently. I knew he wasn't fooled. But in keeping his loyalty to me he didn't say anything. Edward suddenly cleared his throat behind me and I knew he'd been eavesdropping. I turned around and looked up at him, begging him not to mention anything.
Please Edward. They don't need to know, especially not with Ophelia and Nessie in the house I thought swiftly.
Edward rolled his eyes at me, obviously irritated that I thought that low of him and I shrugged it off.
"Stop with the silent conversations already" Bella complained, concern playing in her eyes. She was leaning against the wall with her arms folded tightly over her awful grey cotton sweater swamped chest staring at me.
"Didn't you say that Heidi was coming here?" Jasper asked, "As in the Volturi's Heidi?"
I nodded and said, "Yes the very same Heidi, but she's dropped her allegiance to the Volturi. She's going to be killed if she stays there. She's going to seek sanctuary here."
I walked up the stairs and sat outside Jasper and my room. Nessie followed after me and of course Ophelia was by her side.
"It's not just Heidi who's coming is it Alice?" Nessie said questioningly, "Alec, Jane and Felix will come afterwards. By a couple of weeks or so."
I stared at my niece with wide eyes. She could project thoughts, not read them. I then glanced at the newborn. She was hiding behind Nessie and was facing the wall.
"It was you who told her, wasn't it Ophelia? You can read people's thoughts" I stated softly.
Ophelia shook her head and said, just as quietly, "Not unless they're part of my mental web. It's difficult to explain but it's like casting a net out over someone's mind and whilst there beneath it, their minds connect with mine. That's why Renesmee's thoughts couldn't be heard until she sent them out. No one can read my mind unless they're under the net. I don't know if it will work on Bella because she's a shield. I've never attempted it before."

So I'm not quite sure how long this is or how good but I hope you like it. Please R+R
