A/N: So I decided that I could not leave the sisters in the middle of an argument for the start of a different episode, so instead here's an extra concluding part to Pardon My Past.
Chapter Forty Three: Pardon My Past (Plus New Priorities)
The youngest Charmed One had been unable to sleep that entire night. Therefore, she got up early the next morning, going into the attic.
The lighting in the attic was very dim as the sun had not yet risen outside. Through the gloom, Paige could barely see that the far wall was still blank. Even though their powers were back, the portal door to Portland had not returned. It looked like it would need recasting if Prue did decide to go back.
That was not Paige's reason for going into the attic though. She switched on a light and made her way over to the family tree that had been left out from the day before.
Slowly Paige skimmed through all the names on the family tree. Starting from Charlotte Warren, the tree went all the way down to the 1920's cousins: Bowen, Baxter, and Russell. Then, from Baxter's side of the family, the branch that were the Halliwells had begun when Baxter's daughter, Penny, married Allen Halliwell.
Paige sighed as she read the name of her mother which was closely followed beneath by the names: Prue, Piper, and Phoebe.
'We should really add your name to that.'
Paige turned away from the family tree to see who had spoken. Prue had entered the attic so quietly that Paige had not noticed. Prue feigned a smile and sat down on the floor next to Paige.
'You don't mind the family tree getting defaced like that?' Paige exclaimed, surprised.
Prue frowned. 'Paige, it would be adding your name. That's bringing it up to date, not vandalism.'
Paige shrugged, continuing to look at the family tree rather than her eldest sister. 'Did you sleep on the sofa again last night?'
Prue let out a small laugh. 'Wow, quick subject change there. I guess you're really trying to avoid talking about a certain something else that we really should talk about.'
Paige ignored Prue's words and waited for a reply to her question.
'Sleep wouldn't be the right word as I couldn't really sleep. Too much was on my mind,' Prue finally replied.
Paige put the family tree down and looked over at her sister. 'What's wrong?'
'I was worrying about your decisions,' Prue exclaimed.
Paige shook her head. 'So your main reason for coming up here was to yell at me some more?' Paige went to stand up, but stopped when Prue said:
'Wait. Hear me out.'
Paige frowned. 'I heard you out yesterday. I don't feel like getting the same rant again today.'
'Yeah, but I hadn't had the night to think over it all for that particular rant,' Prue persisted.
Paige did not make a response. She remained where she stood, waiting for Prue to get her new rant over with.
'You're still not used to having sisters looking out for you, are you?' Prue questioned.
Paige furrowed her brow. 'Excuse me?'
'Paige, feel free to point anything out that you think I've done wrong. You won't be able to find anything, but that's not the point. We're family, that's what we do,' Prue explained.
Paige managed a small smile at Prue's show of pride. This was the closest to an apology that she would be getting from Prue. However, it was good to know that her sisters were not totally against her after her decision to give Derek his powers back. They were just a little annoyed.
Later that day when Paige got back from a full day of work, she found all of her sisters standing in the front garden. Prue was directing Piper and Phoebe to stand on specific steps while she looked at them through a camera lens. The camera lens sat nicely on a tripod.
'Paige! Get over here!' Phoebe greeted Paige, causing Prue and Piper to notice her arrival.
'What's going on?' Paige asked a little cautiously.
'We realised that we did not have a photo with all four of us in yet and decided now was the time to do it,' Piper explained.
'Why now?' Paige asked, still with a cautious tone.
Phoebe rolled her eyes. 'Well, we're between demon attacks and we're all here without any interruptions.'
'Er… okay,' said Paige, putting her purse down and joining her sisters on the steps.
Prue returned to looking through the camera lens. 'Piper, could you stand to the right of Paige? My right, not yours. Okay, that's good. Phoebe, could you stand to the left of Paige? Yes, my left. Okay, that seems to look good. Actually, could you all try going down one step. Okay, that works. You're all more central now.'
Prue moved away from the camera, holding a remote timer in her hand. She went to stand next to Phoebe. The four sisters posed for the camera in time for the timer to go off and the picture to be taken.
A/N: The PWABL version of Give Me A Sign has been started, but has no discernible plot points yet, so may still be for a while.
