It's not over tonight

Just give me one more chance to make it right

I may not make it through the night

I won't go home without you

"I'm sorry.."

Those first two words were all Helena heard as her thoughts raced and her heart hammered. It felt like her world came crashing down.

No, no, not her, not M-Myka..

Don't tell me she's…

No, it can't be.

I can't lose her.. Not now, not ever again..

Forcing her heart and mind to still, she waited for the words that came next.

"I'm sorry, there were complications during surgery and she's lost a lot of blood."

She could feel the lump in her throat, the tears welling up, threatening to spill over at any moment. It was as though in that moment, time stood still. Movements around her seemed to have slowed, the unspoken words hung it the air.

Fear crept down her spine, paralyzing her movements. Her lungs refused to draw breath and all that she was, all that she felt, was numb.

As quickly as it seemed that time stood still, like the snapping of fingers, it began again. The flurry of movements and the sounds filtering back in.

She could feel the blood rushing back into her head, her body, as her brain slowly tried to register the words that came next.

"Ex-excuse me?" she stammered out, her mind refusing to comprehend the words that were offered.

"The complications and loss of blood had required blood transfusions and a much longer procedure than expected" the doctor laid a reassuring hand on her shoulder, trying to get her to concentrate on what he was about to tell her next.

"However, the surgery was successful and her condition has stabilized. The anesthetics would take some time to wear off so it would be quite a while before she wakes up."

At last she released the breath she was holding, the tension slowly dissipating from her body.

"Th-thank you"

The tears that threatened to escape earlier flowed freely as she turned towards her fellow agents and embraced them in a hug. The cloud of anxiety and worry that hung over them was no more as the feeling of relief washed over them. None of them could help the slow grins and smiles of happiness that made its way onto their faces.

A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips as the doctor walked away from them.

"Helena.." Myka mumbled, stirring in her sleep.

"I'm right here, darling" a voice replied softly, soothingly back to her.

That voice.. It-it can't be.. I must be dreaming.. She thought, as she started drifting back into sleep.

Then she felt the gentle touch of fingertips, brushing a stray strand of hair away from her face.

"I'm right here, darling" the voice said again, nearer this time as she felt a gentle kiss being placed onto her temple.

She knew then, it wasn't a dream, she HAD felt it, the fingertips grazing lightly over her skin, and the gentleness of the kiss.

Her eyelids, still feeling a little heavy drifted open. The images that filtered in were blurry at first. Blinking the fuzziness out of her eyes, she focused her gaze this time and there she was, in all her effortless beauty.

"He-Helena?" she croaked out, her throat dry.

The woman before her smiled back down at her as she moved to pour her a glass of water. Adjusting to the sudden brightness of the room, Myka finally took in the other figure standing there.

"Pete?" she asked, clearing her throat slightly this time.

"Hey Mykes, welcome back" Pete replied softly, a smile of relief already plastered onto his face.

Although the past events were still quite a blur to her, she could not help but return the smile upon seeing her partner's face filled with relief. She then abruptly tried to readjust herself into a sitting position before a pair of hands stops her.

"Now, now, we wouldn't want you wincing in pain so soon after you've just woken up now would we?" Helena teased as she helped Myka up slowly into a sitting position and offered her the glass of water.

"Hel- Emily?" Myka tried, her eyebrows arching in confusion. She was sure she heard the clear, crisp English voice that was Helena's but then again, she could have easily had just imagined it.

Taking the glass of water offered, Myka held it with both hands and slowly drank a sip of water as her mind tried to process the woman before her.

Tilting her head a little to the side, Myka eyed her from head to toe.

It can't be. I must have imagined it. She's obviously Emily. Just look at the way she's dressed, not that there's anything wrong with it. That's right, I must have gotten hit in the head or I'm not fully awake yet.. Besides, Helena, well, Helena's.. gone.

"Need a penny for your thoughts now, love?" Helena teased, taking the glass from Myka, setting it down. She could not help but grin, noticing the way Myka was observing her.

Ahah! There! Right there! I couldn't have imagined it this time! That's clearly… English! And th-there's that sense of.. familiarity and happiness tugging at my heart, no, at her heart. She frowned slightly at the thought for she could not discern if it was from her or the woman before her.

This feeling… Yes, there's no doubt, it's coming from her, through that connection we share. Seemingly coming to a conclusion, she brought her gaze back up onto Helena/Emily's face.

"You're right love, it's me.." came the crisp English voice again, that voice that she had always been fond of.

Myka's eyes widened, mouth agape.

"H-how c-could i-it be.." she stuttered, shocked at the revelation. Only the sudden squeeze on her fingers brought her out of it as her gaze fell onto the hands that were clasping her own.

Gently squeezing the hand that held firmly onto hers, tears trickled down her face.

"I-I thought you were gone.. For good" Myka choked out as she brought her eyes back to the older agent's face.

"I know darling. I'm here now and I'm not going anywhere, I promise" Helena replied, gently wiping the tears trickling down Myka's face, finally resting the palms of her hand against her cheek.

Leaning in to the touch, daring herself to believe that this was real, that the Helena she knew was alive; she shuddered as she tried to calm her thoughts down.

There were too many questions, too many possibilities, too many thoughts, but in that moment, both women simply stayed, in their embrace, simply taking each other in.

Pete watched the whole exchange from where he stood, all the while remaining silent. A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips as he observed. He hated to break their moment, so there he stood, waiting until both women had recollected themselves. He could feel the excitement bubbling up inside for them, for both his fellow agents; his family.

Steve was just about to walk into the room when he noticed Pete smiling to himself as he watched the pair before them locked in their embrace. Not wanting to interrupt, Steve waited just outside, hovering near the doorway but not quite intruding.

"Myka, do you remember what happened? From when you left Wyoming?" Steve asked as he sat on the arm of the chair that Pete was sat in.

"I..I think so.."

"I'd left your-Emily's place" Myka began, as she looked at Helena.

"Just driven out of Wyoming when I saw a car stopped at the side of the road. The hood was up, I figured someone was having car trouble and went to check it out."

"A dark haired, green-eyed lady who had been obviously crying had no idea what was wrong with her car only that it couldn't start. I'd offer to help her call to get her car towed since her phone was dead."

"Only then did I realize that my phone was in my car. I'd turned back to my car to retrieve it and the next thing I knew… Everything went dark". Myka winced slightly as she remembered getting hit on the back of her head. Helena gave her hand a gentle comforting squeeze, reassuring Myka that she was safe now.

"I think I was drifting in and out of consciousness. All I could remember was that I was being held somewhere dark, couldn't really make anything out."

"The sound of something metal scrapping against the hard-concrete floor was what woke me up. I had recognized the pair or piercing green eyes staring intently backed at me and moments later it felt like I was being dragged into the back of a car."

"And.. Well, you guys know what went on from there.." Myka finished, glancing back up at Steve, Pete and Helena.

All three of them had nodded their understanding.

"Wait!" Myka suddenly burst out, shocking the other three agents ever so slightly.

"How did you guys find me and more importantly, how is Emily now Helena?"

"Well.. I think you should get more rest for now, we can explain how we found you when we get back. As for the rest.." Steve paused, glancing at Pete.

"We'll leave that to Helena" Pete finished for him.

"Right, and we should really update Artie and the rest right now" Steve continued, as he stood up to leave.

Taking his cue from Steve, Pete followed suit and both men left the room to give the ladies their much needed space.

He waited almost impatiently as the call rang and finally connected.

"We need to talk" he said, as soon as the call got through.

"I'll come to you. Wait for my instructions" came the clipped brisk response from the woman on the other side of the line.

That night, while his other agent and Emily were asleep, he had snuck out as per instructed.

"I never really got a chance to congratulate you for a job well done. For going undercover and for destroying the Janus coin" Mrs Frederick said, pride clearly evident in her voice.

"I'm sure you must be wondering what had actually happened between the time you handed over the coin only having to received it back, a couple of hours later with instructions to destroy it."

"Even after I'd destroyed it, somehow I can't quite seem to shake the felling that H.G Wells isn't really gone" Steve replied, with a doubtful look on his face.

"Well, the truth is we had transferred H.G's consciousness to an artifact of her own belonging but no one knows for sure if her consciousness has been transferred fully."

"It is of uncertainty that I tell you that it might help to jog the owner's memories or even make her whole again, but that artifact of hers holds a lot of emotions and that would certainly help."

"Mrs F told me where I had to go to retrieve it and Pete, I still can't believe you don't remember that the Elk Ridge Valu-mart was The Regent's Vault when I brought you along." Steve recollected, as he checked off another artifact of their list.

"W-what? Wait, in my defense I was worried about Mykes and it slipped my mind!" Pete gestured frantically with his hands as though to emphasize his point.

The two had continued their light banter as the rest of them continued with their own list of artifacts to check.

Thanks to Claudia, the team also found out that 'Al' was short for 'Alice Sykes' daughter to none other than Walter Sykes, who apparently no one else knew about.

Among the list of artifacts taken from the warehouse, Harriet Tubman's thimble was one of them. No one knows for sure who took on Mr Kosan's form that night, but Steve had a strong feeling that Marcus had walked away from that wreckage unscathed.

"You guys do know, that we'll have to spend the rest of our days tracking those two idiots and retrieving those artifacts, right?" Claudia said, throwing a wad of dust filled cloth at them both.

"H-Hey!" Pete sputtered as dust flew right into his face.

"Retrieving artifacts? Same old, same old then.. Partner" Steve replied grinning at Claudia and gestured with his head in the direction of another set of 'partners'.

Claudia looked over at Myka and H.G who seems to be the only pair making good progress on their list of inventories. They work so effortlessly together as though it was a dance that only the two of them knew.

That made Claudia smile and despite all that has happened, she was just glad that everyone was back home safe. For now.

"You know, I still can't believe that Steve was in on Mrs F's plan and the fact that your necklace was what brought you back to me" Myka grinned as she gazed at Helena lovingly from her spot on their bed.

"Oh darling, I would beg to differ. I would say you are what brought me back" she gently caress Myka's cheek and planted a quick kiss on her lips.

"Come now, love, we should probably head down for breakfast or we'll never hear the last of it".

"MYKA! H.G!" hollered Pete from down below "Breakfast!"

"Or there'll be none left!" Claudia chimed in.

Helena smirked and gave Myka a look that said, 'I told you so', putting her hand out for Myka to take. Myka smiled and took Helena's hand in hers. Both ladies made their way downstairs to join their family for breakfast. She had never been happier and that feeling was only magnified by the connection they shared.

"And to think after all this, they'd still be fighting over food" Artie mumbled as he shook his head at Pete and Claudia, as they all took their seats at the table.
