Chapter 11 – Quiet Times

MEREDITHS POV

You know that moment you have when just freeze and everything just goes by in slow motion. Well lets just say that slow motion, is of a bullet heading straight towards you, But you cant move because your frozen. You can see it slowly coming towards you, but you cant move, its a if you were standing on a landmine. You can feel the adrenaline pumping,your pulse racing a hundred miles an hour, you can feel your muscles tighten with fear as you feel the wetness of your tears falling down your face. Then comes the impact. The gigantic force that unfreezes your body and sends it flying, hitting the ground with a loud 'Thud'. Your sight becomes blurry and the only thing you an see is red,as its rusty smell inflames your nostrils. Then the complete darkness takes over as your eyelids close.

DEREKS POV

"Meredith!" I kept yelling, hoping she would hear my panic call for urgency as I ran around the hospital In search. I could feel the overpowering of emotions take over my body as tear fell down my cheek and my eyes become red and puffy. But I didn't let that stop me. I had to save Meredith, and our daughter. Without them I was nothing, without them life was not worth living. I suddenly stopped when I saw a patients room. 394, and inside was an oxygen tank. I didn't even blink, I raced inside the room and scanned over the tank. 87%, that was great. I Urgently took it and held it under my arm, still frantically calling out Meredith's name.

LEXIES POV

"Just keep breathing" I told Grace as I held her head in my lap nervously staring at Addison.

"We really need that oxygen tank Lexie" Addison said. "She hasn't got long left."

"She's a fighter, she will make through this, she's a Grey" I said snapping at Addison. "We can't give up, not when there's still hope, and there is!"

I couldn't believe this was happening, I wish I could just blink and this would all be over. But when I blinked, this wasn't over, Grace stopped breathing.

"Grace. Grace?" I yelled placing my ear towards her mouth.

"She's not breathing." I yelled at Addison. She just froze in response.

"Start compressions." She ordered as I moved from under Grace and placed her lying straight on her back. "1,2,3" I said out loud pressing hard against her chest and blowing air into her mouth. "Come on Grace!" I yelled in frustration.

DEREKS POV

I wanted to continue my search for Meredith but I had to return to Grace...if she was still alive, I hoped it wasn't too late. I ran towards our room, but when I arrived I saw Grace lying on the ground and lexie doing compressions. My face frozen with horror.

"Well are you just gonna stand there?" Addison screamed from behind me.

"Lexie I yelled." getting on my knees leaning over grace. "Quick put this on her." I said pacing her the new oxygen mask and tank.

"Come on!" Lexie kept yelling, the oxygen mask was on, but Grace still wasn't breathing.

Dear god please! I kept praying as I squeezed Grace's hand just hopping she would breathe.

Then it came that gush of air I was praying for, the sound of coughing and the sight of her eyes opening made my cry of joy.

"Thank you god!" I yelled kissing her on the forehead, her breathing heavily as I looked into her eyes. A saw a tear fall down her face.

"Don't you ever do that again Grace!" Lexie yelled as she was also crying with joy and hugged her, never wanting to let go.

"Where's mom?" she said still heavily breathing under the mask.

"I don't know." I said answering her question with a sad expression. I gave a look to Lexie, then one to Addison.

"Its too dangerous!" Addison replied knowing what my look meant.

"I love her Addie." I said looking deeply at her.

"Promise me you wont die." She responded.

"I promise." I said giving a fake smile.

"You're a brave man Dr Shepherd." Lexie said looking at with concern.

"I'll be right back." I said to Grace kissing her on the forehead again. "Promise"

"Meredith!" I kept yelling down the hallway when I slipped over and suddenly came down cashing into a code blue trolley.

"Ouch" I yelled as I hit my head. I looked around to see what I had slipped in and was shocked to see blood. Blood everywhere. "Meredith" I whispered out loud. I had to find her. I had to know that she was safe that she was okay. I quickly got up and started running again when I saw a familiar glimpse of a person who I knew.

"Alex" I yelled.

"Derek, what the hell are you doing? Do you want to get shot?" He yelled annoyed at me when I approached him.

"Have to seen Meredith?" I asked bending over short of breath.

"No I haven't?" Why are you running around?" He asked staring at me.

"I'm trying to find Meredith? Do you knew where she might be?" I asked looking around my surroundings.

"Last time I saw her she was headed towards Peds, for Grace?" Alex responded shrugging his shoulders.

"Grace isn't there she's with Addie and Lexie, she had a huge asthma attack and stopped breathing, but she should be good now." I said looking at Alex.

"Okay, I glad to hear she's okay now, look I have to go and find Izzie." Alex said starting to run the other direction.

I headed towards peds hoping Meredith was there. I ran through the east wing seeing a few nurses bodies on the ground. The smell was unbearable. I covered my nose with my sleeve and headed straight.

"Meredith!" I kept yelling. Hoping she would hear me and come out at any second. I just wanted to see her alive to see that she was okay.

I couldn't see a living person In sight. I turned left,I was almost at peds when I suddenly stopped. A cold shiver ran through my body, my knees unlocked and fell to the ground. Everything just stopped. I couldn't even process a single logical thought. How could I? Merediths cold bleeding body was laying right in front of me. I began to hyperventilate, I know was the one who couldn't breathe.

"Meredith" I sobbed as I touch her face with my hand. I placed my ear to her mouth. I could feel something. It was bear, but it was there. She was still breathing. Just. Doctor mode quickly kicked in and I examined her injuries. Gun shot wound to the chest. She had lost a lot of blood, if I didn't get her into surgery soon, she was going to die, and quick. I looked around and I saw no one.

"Some one help me!" I yelled. I couldn't do this alone and I couldn't leave her. What was I going to do?

"Shepherd?" Someone yelled behind me making me jump.

"Owen?" I asked confused, and thankful at the same time.

"What are you..." He began to saw until he saw meredith. "Robbins,

Avery," He called out behind him. Arizona and Jackson slowly emerged, both covered in blood, thankfully not theirs.

"What do we have Shepherd?" He asked.

"Gunshot to the chest." I said looking up at them.

"OR 2 now." He said pointing at Jackson who helped lift Meredith up. "Derek you will need to be watch out." He said pointing at me.

"You need me." I yelled.

"This is too personal for you, we need a watch out, and you are it so lets stop with the wincing and save Dr Greys life." he yelled following Jackson and Arizona who were carrying Meredith.

"Okay." I said chasing after them.
