Roy marveled at just how much Ed could get away with sometimes. He was a master at testing boundaries. Sometimes, he snuck up on them, but most of the time, he just plowed his way through and stopped to pick up the pieces later. He made people Mustang's age react with a startled stare and a headshake. He had aced the state certification exam at the age of twelve, accomplished more by accident than most had tried to do in their adult life on purpose. He had lived through a lot of things he probably shouldn't have — a fact for which Roy was extremely grateful, make no mistake, but it still baffled him.

Today, he was more focused on the little things. Ed was sprawled on one of the couches in his office with a book open and his nose buried in it. Somehow, the brat was able to get out of wearing an official uniform. It was always a treat when he did put it on for things that Roy wouldn't let him weasel out of. But the fact that he had the balls to wear whatever he wanted usually worked out in Ed's favor, and by extension, Roy's too.

Today, he had on his favorite pair of butter soft leather pants. Roy found his attention distracted every now and then when he'd look up, looking on at how it clung to flesh and metal with perfection. Ed had discarded his red coat, the garment tossed haphazardly over a different chair, leaving him in only his sleeveless shirt. His worn boots were propped up on the table before him, and his hair was pulled back into a sloppy braid. He looked truly delectable, for all that he was engrossed in his research and probably completely unaware of Roy's attention in the first place.

The man's gaze flickered up to the closed door of his office. He spent a deliberating moment wondering whether he should go lock it. Without ever discussing the decision, they both somehow managed to keep their relationship out of the office. They spent more time fighting over things when they were at work anyway. For the most part, Roy thought that it was an excellent idea to adhere to, but there were quiet times like this where he couldn't get his mind off his lover. That was when he put his pen down and stalked over, his hands finding the other's shoulders, his mouth covering Ed's sound of surprise. These were the days when he bent a few rules of his own.
