Hey guys! Warning! I have bumped up the rating to M from T because of some 'adult language'.
There isn't much cute things going on in this chapter except some character building for Edd 3
ALSO: Might as well go ahead and thrown in the disclaimer-I don't own any of these characters, they are from the cartoon network
Ed, Edd, & Eddy. Blah blah blah, you guys know the rest! Thanks for reading!
Edd woke up from a pleasant slumber to find that he had slid to Kevin's lap in his sleep. Senses of alarm flew into his head as he realized his surroundings and he threw his head up. Luckily, the ginger was fast asleep, and didn't see the look of terror in his eyes. His ragged breathing slowed down to normal as he took in the sight of the matured male sleeping in front of him. Throughout the years Kevin had went from a scrawny middle scholar to a well-toned high schooler. Years ago he stopped wearing his signature red hat, but it seemed as his hair didn't get the memo as it still spiked ever so slightly in the front. Edd looked at the clean shave of his face and the softness of his red hair. It was about the time that Kevin started filling out to his frame that Edd started to find him attractive, and tried to stay out of interactions with him.
At first the attraction to the male startled him, and caused him to start to question himself. He had always thought that Naz was pretty, and that's normal right? He tried to talk to Eddy about it once, and that got him floored with insults. To cover his tracks, he explained that he was only questioning because of a novel that he had recently indulged in. Eddy was quick to dismiss the subject once the word 'novel' was brought up, and Edd's secret was never fully let out. Soon after he found himself being attracted to other men and women at Peach Creek High, and he felt it necessary to research the phenomena himself without talking to anyone. That night Edd learned the word 'bisexual', and he held it close to his heart. Whenever the option came up for him to tell his friends, he was reminded of Eddy's harsh words and he never brought it up again.
Right now he was very much reminded of his sexuality, and his cheeks turned a bright crimson. Of course there was no chance that the ginger would ever reprocate his feelings. Not only that, but Kevin was actually in a relationship with a fellow student at Peach Creek. She was tall, blond, and striking. Indeed everything about this girl's exterior was flawless, except she was as hatful as they came. Kevin's bullying when they were younger was mean, but through the years he slowly stopped picking on Edd. This girl, Shaina, went out of her way to push Edd's books to the floor or other rude acts. The thought that she would most likely be coming by to check on her 'Precious Kevie' rattled his nerves once again.
Quickly, he pulled himself away from the still slumbering Kevin and headed for the door. Upon a second thought, Edd wrote a quick note and left it on the counter top:
Kevin,
I have momentarily gone to my home. I will be back as soon as possible, however, if you need to reach me my cellphone number is , don't be afraid to contact me if you need anything.
-Eddward.
Leaving the clear scribbled note behind, he slip silently out the door and into the warm sun. School had to have been let out by now, and he assumed that Eddy and Ed would come by and look for him once they got home. What would he tell them? The last they saw him he was leaving in an ambulance set for the hospital with a bleeding Kevin. There would be many questions that Edd wouldn't really know how to answer, or if he should answer them.
Crossing the cul-de-sac from Kevin's front door set Edd's nerve ablaze, wondering if anyone saw him leave the boy's house. It was impossible for anyone to notice where he came from after reaching the sidewalk, but the paranoia still settled in his head. It was only minutes before someone else talked to Kevin and told him that the two really weren't friends. What if Kevin got his memory back while Edd was over there and he struck out in anger at his presence? No matter how much he told his brain to stop bringing up the worse, his mind kept running these thoughts through constantly.
Once inside, the paranoia settled to a dull thrum and he decided it would be most relaxing to get a bubble bath. Bubble baths were something he did normally when no one was home, and he felt anxious. He had always had anxiety problems growing up, and taking medication once a day usually kept the worst feelings at bay. However, sometimes the thoughts slipped through and a bubble bath was the perfect way to ease his mind once again. He turned on instrumental music, usually heavy with the soothing sounds of violins, poured in lavender bath beads, and closed out the world for at least half an hour. Right now he decided on lavender bath bubbles and soaks to further comfort the fire in his chest. To further catharticise the anxiety, he played a melody with a faster beat. The fact that he listened to harder tempos when he was unsettled made him chuckle. There was once a psychology experiment done in 1961, by Albert Bandura, where children were exposed to adults doing violent acts to a clown doll-Bobo. The experiment showed that violent things were not cathartic, and in fact did the opposite. The irony washed over him as he undressed in front of the tall mirror over the sink. Every time he looked into his unclothed reflection he felt like he was looking at a stranger. His eyes were always too big, his arms too long, his chest to concave, his hips too predominant, and his blue-black hair tickled his boney shoulders. Taking off his ever-present black toboggan, his hair fell even further down his shoulders by a few inches. Sighing at the boy in front of him, Edd turned slowly to the steaming bath and smiled lightly.
The water steamed his toes as he eased himself into the hot water. The hotter the water, the better Edd felt in the tub. He felt that the hot water was more sanitary than lukewarm, and would constantly replenish the heat if necessary. However, the thought of actually bathing himself in the water caused him to shudder. No bubble baths were only for times such as this, and afterwards he would promptly get in the shower and properly cleanse himself. Now he just enjoyed the melody of a cello humming in the background, while he sunk lower into the lavender scented bath. The white bubbles tickled his nose as he went further into the soothing heat, until his head was fully encased. Staying under the water was difficult, as he just floated back up to the rippled surface of the water. However, there were small handles on both sides of the tub where washcloths are meant to be hung and Edd used them to hold himself down to the bottom of the water. The sound of the music was muffled by the liquid, and the entire world seemed to cease to exist. Fully engulfed by the water Edd let all of his anxiety free itself from his body and float to the top of the bath; where it would dissipate into nothingness. Once his lungs started screaming for oxygen, he plunged upwards and gulped in the sweet coolness of air.
About forty-five minutes passed before Edd retired from the soapy pool, and locked himself in the small stand up shower steps away. In the shower, he let his mind wander to innocent places such as how Father and Mother were doing at the conference. He began to think about how happy his father was when he heard that he was nominated for a prestigious award when the front bell began dinging. Luckily he had already fully washed himself, and only needed to get out and towel off. Before getting dressed, however, he stopped and looked again at his figure in the mirror. Why he did this every time, he didn't quite know. The bell dinged again insistently, and drove him to throw on a cool blue t-shirt and a part of light blue jeans. Before he reached the door he already knew that it would be Eddy and Ed on the other side of the oak wood door. He would open the door to Eddy looking annoyed as usual, and a very lovable oaf immediately telling him about his day.
When the door swung open, there was a very annoyed looking Eddy on the other side, accompanied by a very worried Ed. "Hello gentlemen, come on inside. I apologize for making you wait; I was upstairs in the shower." He then quickly realized the hostility in his shorter friend's eyes, and took a quick step back. "What is going on?
"I don't know Double D, you tell me." Eddy growled at him, and stepped through the front door with Ed close behind. "Last we heard from you, you were in the back of an ambulance going to the hospital with that asshole. Then, then you weren't at school today. That isn't like you. You didn't call us, you didn't come over, you didn't do shit. I had to deal with this big lug bothering me all fucking day about how worried he was about you." The more Eddy rambled on, the less Edd was afraid of him. The whole reason he was angry was because he was worried, and he cared. Eddy usually barked orders at them without thinking about their feelings, but at the end of the day the guy did actually care.
"Eddy, Eddy." Ed closed the door behind them, and put his hands up to wave his friend's rambling off. "I am not quite sure why I got in the ambulance, but he suffered a severe head injury and I felt the need to accompany him to the hospital. Unfortunately, when he woke up I found out that he actually has amnesia and doesn't remember anything." He watched his friend's face turn a lighter color. "You two might want to follow me into the den, I have something else I'd like to discuss with you."
