Doccubus Drabble (5):
I stood nervously at the bottom of the stairs, wringing my hands together as I awaited my date and long time crush and newfound girlfriend to descend from her room. In truth, I wasn't so nervous about spending the night with her, no. Her grandfather was who made me nervous, staring holes into my back as we stood there, silence surrounding us.
I tried to make conversation with him, commenting on some of the interesting decor he had around the living room. All his responses were polite but clipped and spoken in a tone that got me drifting toward the staircase to wait instead. Of course the man followed after me, keeping a sparse distance between us. If ever I felt awkward, it was in that moment.
A part of me was greatly amused, considering the fact the man was dressed in simple slacks and plain t-shirt while I donned leather and armor. What I wore was inspired by one of my favorite characters in the Marvel Universe, Lady Sif, more accurately the what she wore in the second Thor movie.
I made a few alterations, mainly because I couldn't afford spending more on the outfit. The knee length boots I wore were a dark red-brown similar to that of the movie but I opted out of adding anything to them. I wore leather pants, which I thankfully already owned due to prior use at the last comic book convention I attended. I decided not to put any time into making or buying mail for the costume, using all my free time of the past two weeks focus on making realistic armor.
What I did make looked professionally done and was very close to what I saw on screen, the main difference being the lack of mail with the pleated skirt with the added benefit of a cloak. Otherwise, it was pretty spot on, including the decorative engraving along the edges of the plates. The vambraces looked a little shoddy in comparison to everything else but it didn't really matter, I was in a rush and no one would notice.
Just as I was about to start yet another attempt at conversation, I was interrupted by the sound of a soft cough. Both Bo's grandfather and I looked up at once to see a grinning best friend wink down at us. She wore a black velvet flapper dress, detailed with silver sequin trim, black fringe, a rhinestone buckle and two tone lace panel. She also wore lacy black fingerless gloves, a matching headpiece with a feather accent and fishnets. There was no question that she was aiming for the flapper look and she nailed it; not that I was surprised.
"Lady and gent, I'm proud to announce that Bo is ready for her grand entrance!" Kenzi exclaimed excitedly.
"Kenz," I heard my date whine.
The dark haired girl rolled her eyes playfully but proceeded nonetheless. "And now… Lady Ysabeau Dennis of the house McCorrigan!" Kenzi made a wide sweeping gesture to her right as Bo glided toward the stairs.
My breath caught the moment my eyes landed on her figure.
My stomach fluttered the moment our gazes met.
And I fell further in love the moment her smile blazed its way into my heart.
She was absolutely breathtaking, dressed in a red, floor length ball gown that thankfully lacked the grand puff most had and simply flowed out. The satiny material clung to her upper torso, accentuating the curves I'd gotten introduced to over the past few months. Both the neckline and waistline were embroidered with small beads that sparkled in the light. She wore her usual dark makeup and had her silky hair down in soft curls. The dress seemed plain, ordinary even, the first time I saw it but on her body, nothing could ever be so simple. A silver necklace with a ruby charm lay perfectly nestled between Bo's ample bust and matched perfectly with the silver circlet style crown atop her head.
Kenzi took Bo's arm and led her down the stairs, presenting her to me. "Lady Dennis, I proudly introduce you to your night's date, Lady Lauren Lewis of the house… Lewis." The younger girl pouted at me, stage whispering, "you need something different like Bo."
"Thanks, Kenzi, I think I can handle it from here," Bo chuckled.
"But I haven't completely announced you guys. It's no fun if I don't do the whole thing."
With a sigh, my beautiful brunette acquiesced, shooting me a sheepish smile. I shrugged, knowing exactly how Kenzi tended to go overboard when it concerned Halloween. I didn't mind, especially after she helped me find the perfect costume to impress Bo while indulging my slightly geeky mindset. She was the one to occasionally help me with sowing some leather pieces together too, something previous friends never even offered.
"Right, okay, Lady Dennis, heir to the McCorrigan kingdom, you will be under the watchful eye of the greatest lady warrior Canada has ever known!" Bo's eyes sparkled as she grinned at me, nodding along to Kenzi's words. "Lady Lewis has been training all her life for this night, All Hallow's Eve, to woo you and keep you from harm's way. She h-"
"Kenzi, I don't mean to interrupt but I think someone is getting impatient," Bo's grandfather said.
I suppose the three of us were so wrapped up in one another that we didn't realize Hale had already arrived. He stood behind the man, dressed in a dark grey and white pin striped suit with a matching fedora. His tie and handkerchief were the same shade of grey and his shirt was a solid white. The gangster to Kenzi's flapper, I should've known.
"Lil' momma," he greeted with a broad smile. "Ladies," he nodded at me and Bo. "If we want to make it for the food we should get going."
"Trick, care to do the honors before we go?" Bo asked, reaching for my hand and pulling me to her.
"Honors…? Oh! You mean pictures." Her grandfather nodded quickly, hurrying to the living room and back with a camera in hand. "Let's make this quick."
We posed as a couple for a few, a group in others and took a few separately and mixed up. It didn't take long until her grandfather announced it was enough and bid us farewell. He and the two best friends were a little surprised to see the limo Hale and I rented together.
"You guys didn't have to," Bo whispered in my ear as we sat close together. She had my cloak draped across her shoulders, snuggling as best she could into my side.
"We wanted to," I mumbled, gently running my fingertips up and down her arm. "And I haven't mentioned yet, but Bo, you look breathtaking." I felt the way she shuddered and grinned at the goosebumps I felt rise under my touch.
"You do too, warrior," she replied shyly. I chuckled, loving the way I could make the well known and ever so confident Bo Dennis timid.
"Tonight, I'm your knight, m'lady."
She nodded, shifting so that her lips brushed against my neck. Shivers ran up and down my back as she began to suck on my pulse point. When she pulled back, she looked me in the eyes and husked, "and tonight you'll also be my lover."
My girl knew just the trick to get me excited for later on treats. All I had to really say was, "very happy Halloween, Bo," before I kissed her.
A/N: Getting closer and closer to Halloween and I am so excited! For once, instead of hanging with the family, I'm gonna be out with my friends, woo! Haha so with those feels firmly in place, I am happy to post this ficlet. I hope you like it and have a great rest of the week!
