This is set in the same universe as my previous modern AU Avatar fics, in the same continuity as "All Hallows' Eve" and "Be Mine" (i.e., a different continuity from "The Boy I Met in Paris"). Inspired by a comment I saw on someone's fanart on Tumblr saying that "Suki and Azula should be bros."

Azula gazed out the window as she sipped her tea. "They're pathetic," she said, as much annoyed as despising.

Suki eyed her warily. "Who?" she asked cautiously. She'd better not insult Sokka, she thought.

"These boring people!" Azula exclaimed, waving grandly to indicate the passersby whom she was watching. "Look at us, Suki. You and I are powerful women! And you've come from a little town whose only claim to importance dates from a century ago" — Suki scowled but decided to let the comment pass — "but you don't let that get in your way. What excuse do people have for just milling around?" She snorted derisively. "Peasants."

"I'll try not to take offense at that," Suki said smoothly, then took a long sip of her coffee. But her eyes sparkled in amusement. She had never expected to befriend the princess, with all her haughtiness and bitterness. But something, maybe their shared fieriness, or their similar senses of irony, had pushed them together.

Azula smirked. "Present company excepted, of course," she amended.
