Chapter 27
So just a heads up with this chapter I'm gonna be switching POV's between Kat and an omniscient narrator. There's too much going on that I can't stick Kat in the middle of. So Dean will be bold, Sam will be italicized, and the narrator will be bold and italicized.
And here we are once again in another crap motel. God, every time I think I've seen all the horrible wallpaper there is I get surprised once again. But hey, at least this one was just plain white walls and not freaking Flamingos everywhere. Sam and I had just gotten back from looking around the dead guy's office. I was looking through my duffel for my shower kit and sleep cloths and Sam was, well I don't actually know what Sam was doing. All I know is that there was no reason the cops should be busting though our door. As soon as the door is hit Sam goes and pushes me behind him, not like it'll do much good since I'm only like an inch shorter than him. But the door bursts open and a fucking swat team comes busting through our door guns drawn and aiming right at us.
"Hand's where I can see em." Some random cop yells and Sam and I both do just that dropping whatever was in our hands.
"Going somewhere, Sam? Wait, who are you?" Say's the detective.
"Uh…" I start to say then lose the words looking to Sam for guidance.
"She's my sister." Sam states not wanting us to get in any more trouble than we're already in.
"We didn't realize she was part of all this too. Guess we will have to pull her file too then. The two if you are under arrest. Anything you say can and will be held against you in a court of law…" The detective replies while two SWAT officers handcuff us but I've been read my Miranda rights before so I just sorta tune her out. All I can really think about is why she knew Sam would be here but not me. I mean my rap-sheet is way longer than Sam's and he left, he got out. But as much as I want to ask, I know not to open my mouth.
I was sitting in an interrogation room handcuffed to the table. I knew he was in deep shit, he just hoped Sam and Kat were alright. Then the door opened and this hard ass dude who gave off a really nasty vibe walked in and sat down across from him, and all I could think of is that if Sam and Kat did get caught, that this guy stayed the hell away from my sister.
"First I thought you were just stepping up your game. Credit-card fraud, breaking and entering, grand theft, and I was confused by the grave desecration charge." Pete stated. "But all of these are pretty small time compared to murder. Then I got this fax from St. Louis saying that not only were you the suspect in the torture and murder of a young woman but that you were dead. Well I gotta say, you look pretty alive to me and now we know Karin Giles wasn't the first person you murdered, but she will damn well be your last."
Throughout his whole monologue I could not get over just how creepy this guy was. He was also trying to figure out how the hell he was going to get himself out of this one.
I was staring out the window of office room waiting for someone to come talk to him. I wanted to know how Kat and Dean were but I really wanted to know why they didn't know Kat was with him and Dean. After probably a good five minutes of staring the woman that had arrested him and Kat walked through the door.
"Thought you might be thirsty." Diana stated setting a cup of coffee on the table in front of Sam.
"Ok, so you are clearly the good cop." I remarked. "Where's the bad cop?"
"Oh, he would be with your brother right now." Diana stated nonchalantly.
"Well then where's Kate and why are you holding us?" I asked.
"Kate is in another room waiting to be questioned and your brother is being held on suspicion of murder. You and your sister are being held as possible accessories, we'll just have to wait and see." Diana replied.
"What? Murder?" I asked confused and worried.
"Well you are either a really good actor or hade know idea because you sound genuinely surprised." Diana stated.
"Well you can't just hold us here without formal charges." I stated.
"No, we actually can for 48 hours. Thought you would know that considering you were pre-law in college." Diana replied. She then went off on a long monologue of Sam's history. She then went on to go over Dean's history to some extent, how he was wanted in St. Louis for torturing and murdering a number of women.
"It's not your fault Dean's your brother. We can't pick our family. Dean, he's a bad guy, your sister isn't so great either, but his life is over. Yours doesn't have to be." Diana coaxed.
"Ok, for one, how dare you bring my sister into this when she is not the one you want me to turn on? Secondly you honestly think I'll give my brother up for something he didn't do?" I replied.
"No, we have your brother dead to rights, we just need you to fill in the missing pieces." Diana answered. "Look, I can talk to the D.A, get him to make you a deal and you =can get on with your life. But Dean, he's as good as gone."
I sat at a table in a not interrogation, interrogation room. Like where they take the people to talk to them without them being under arrest. I must have been waiting for a good twenty minutes before someone came in, or well actually two someone's. There was Diana who arrested Sam and I and a man, who I'm guessing is her partner.
"Well Kate you have been a busy little bee." Pete started opening what I'm assuming was my arrest record. "You've got a very large juvenile record that has been sealed, but you just kept going. And really, what is it with your family and grave desecration?"
"Wow you sir are a dick." I scoffed. "So who wants to tell me why the hell your partner broke down our door and arrested my brother and me?"
"You'd better watch yourself you disrespectful bitch." Pete growled.
"Pete, calm down." Diana stated. "Your brother Dean is being held on suspicion of murder while for you and Sam we'll just have to wait and see."
"What? Dean hasn't murdered anybody!" I defended. "You very obviously have the wrong guy."
"No, I'm pretty sure we don't considering how he tortured at least three women in St. Louis, one of whom he killed." Pete responded. "Though he must have had an accomplice considering how he supposedly died there, but is very obviously still alive. You wouldn't happen to know anything about that would you?"
"What the hell are you implying?" I demanded. "And let me restate myself with a slight addition, Dean has never tortured or killed anyone! So unless you are going to charge me with something, I'm leaving"
I started to get up when I was unceremoniously shoved back into the seat.
"You aren't going anywhere. We have the right to hold you for 48 hours without formally charging you with anything, and I'm sure in that time we will find something." Pete stated with a sort of unholy glee in his eyes. "Turn on your brother and we'll let you go."
"So tell me what you know and I'll see what I can do." Diana stated.
"Ok, so our dad and Tony Giles were old service buddies, they had both served in the Marines. We've known him and Karen since we were kids. So when we heard about Tony's death we came right out to see what we could do to help." I explained. "So there is no way that Dean killed Tony in case you were going to charge him with that as well, since we weren't even here."
"Ok so you weren't in town when Tony was killed. What happened next?" Diana asked.
"Well that's when we went to see Karen." I was so glad that we always come up with cover stories in case we get pinched by the cops. There was no way I could tell them that we went to see Karen impersonating representatives from their life insurance providers in order to ask her questions to determine if we were dealing with something supernatural. Which as it turns out we were considering that the night before he died, Tony woke up from a dream to see a woman standing at the end of the bed who was gone in a blink.
"Poor thing was so distraught, she was just barely holding herself together, understandably so, since she had just lost her husband in a vicious attack. We just wanted to check up on here, see if there was anything we could do; let her know that we were there for her." I finished explaining. "I gave her a hug and told her to call if she needed anything or if she just didn't feel like being alone. Then we left and went back to our motel since she had said she just needed some time to herself."
"Kate, we are trying to help you here, we really are, but you've got to give us something." Diana demanded while her partner just scoffed.
"Look detective, I've given it too you straight, I'm not lying. And while you may be trying to help but your partner has clearly already condemned Dean and I, if not Sam as well." I replied.
"Look Sam, we have an eye witness that saw two men matching your and your brother's description breaking into Mr. Giles' office." Diana stated.
"Yea, Karen called us up later saying that she wanted a couple of things from Tony's office but they wouldn't let her in to get them. And I know that it's wrong to enter a crime scene, but I figured that you had gotten all the evidence that you needed, so I didn't see the harm in fetching the trinkets that she wanted. You know a picture frame with a picture of the two of them in Paris and a couple other things with sentimental value. She wanted them to add to her memorial stuff and she gave us the key. So Dean and I went to Tony's office to get the stuff, and before you ask, Kate stayed at the motel. She took Tony's death pretty hard and was exhausted so we told her to get some rest and that we would handle it." I explained.
That was not anywhere close to what happened but he couldn't tell the cops that he and Dean broke into the dudes office to find evidence of the supernatural. We really didn't find much other that a bunch of papers with the words Dana Shulps written on it. There were no records of any Dana Shulps in his office or on his computer. That's when Dean left to go talk to Karen again.
"We saw the remnants of the puddle of blood. After seeing that Dean was worried about Karen so he went to go check up on her. She had been so upset, we just wanted to make sure she was ok. She was one of the few female role models that Kate had growing up." I explained. "When I was done it was late so we figured that we would just go back to our motel room and then check up on Karen tomorrow."
"I was just so emotionally exhausted that I stayed at the motel while Dean and Sam went to Tony's office to get the things that Karen asked for. So I have no idea what happened there but maybe two hours later Sam came back. He said that the crime scene was pretty bad and it was a good thing I stayed behind, but that Dean wanted to check on Karen just to make sure she was alright." I continued to explain.
"Ok, let's say we believe you thus far, what happened next?" Pete asked.
"Next was the cops breaking down our door and arresting us. Would a thought you knew that considering y'all are cops and all." I stated. "How'd you know we were there anyway?"
"We found the matchbook from the motel on Dean when we arrested him." Diana replied.
"So you and your brother and sister were together the whole time in Baltimore, why did you separate now?" Pete asked.
"We didn't want to overwhelm Karen. She has had a couple of very hard days and we didn't want her to feel smothered. There is an initial part of the grieving process that requires one to be alone in order to gather ones thoughts and emotions." I stated. "But I have a feeling you have a different answer to that question and nothing I say will change your mind."
"You're right, I know that was bull shit answer. You separated so that you could kill Karen Giles. We've heard the 911 call she made. She sounded absolutely terrified. She said that there was someone in the house." Pete stated. "That someone was you."
"No, that someone was not me. When I got to Karen's house I knocked on the door, nobody answered so I knocked a little louder and still no one answered. I got worried, she had been so upset when we went and saw her earlier that day that I was conserved that she may have made a rash decision. I got the spare key from under the brick by the door and when in. I didn't find Karen anywhere on the lower level and she wasn't responding when I called her name so I ran up stares to try and find her. I went to check her room and I found her lying on the floor in a pool of her own blood with her throat slit. I bent down to check he pulse see if there was anything I could do but it was too late. I was just about to call 911 myself when I was arrested." I explained.
The Detectives regrouped after they had finished questioning the three siblings. The woman was very concerned about the lack of evidence but her partner just told her everything would be alright.
Once the three siblings were alone they all started trying to figure out what 'Dana Shulps' meant. They all very quickly realized that it wasn't a name but an anagram.
I sat at the table repeating 'Dana Shulps' over and over stressing a different letter each time. A few minutes later there was a curtesy knock on the interrogation room door before it opened on a somewhat squirrely looking man in a suit with a briefcase.
"Mr. Winchester?" The man asked.
"Yea…" I replied.
"I'm Jeff Crouse from the public defender's office." Jeff introduced. "I'm your lawyer."
"Oh, thank god. I'm saved." I stated sarcastically watching as Jeff pulled up a chair and sat down. "Hey, do you have a pen and some paper I could use?"
"Sure." Jeff replied pulling a pen from his inside coat pocket and a legal pad from his briefcase. He started talking about the Dean's case which Dean completely ignored starting to write out a number of the different permutations that 'Dana Shulps' could form.
"Um, Jeff, right? Do you mind taking a look at this list of words, tell me if they mean anything to you?" I asked turning the pad of paper around so he could see it properly.
"Mr. Winchester do you realize just how much trouble you are in right now?" Jeff asked.
"Well I am handcuffed to a table, so yea I know I'm in some pretty deep shit right now." I replied. "Just humor me."
"Well, I don't know what the S-U-P is but Ashland is a street name." Jeff replied circling the word.
"Street? Huh." I stated starting to write two notes for Jeff to give to Sam and Kat. "Can you get in to see my brother and sister?"
"Well, yes since I will be representing them as well. Though I think it would be best to focus more on your case that there's." Jeff said with a note of concern and confusion in his voice.
"Ok, then I need you to get these to them." I stated handing Jeff the notes, cutting him off when he tried to talk. "Look Matlock, you want to help me then you get these to my siblings."
"Ok then, I'll be back later to discuss your case." Jeff stated as he went off to deliver the notes.
Diana sat at her desk writing out the report for the murder of Tony Giles when random appeared just started to appear on the screen in the report. She tried to delete them but they wouldn't go away. She blinked and all of a sudden the letters were gone. Figuring that she was just tired and
"Mr. Winchester. I'm Jeff Crouse, your lawyer." Jeff introduced himself once again. "I have a note from your brother."
I looked at the note it read '-Hilts, it's a street. –McQueen'
"Well I hope that was meaningful." Jeff stated. "Are you going to talk to me or should I just go see your sister now?"
"Go see Kat, Matlock." I replied. "They don't have anything to charge me with that has any chance of going to court."
Jeff huffed out a sigh and got up to go see the third and final Winchester.
"Hello, I'm Jeff Crouse, your lawyer." Jeff stated for the third and final time. "I have a note from your brother Dean."
"Great, thanks Matlock." I said as I took the note and read it. Basically it told me that 'Dana Schulps' was really Ashland street and to get out and meet up with Sam.
"So, let's talk about your case." Jeff stated sitting across from me with a slight huff. He was getting tired of being referred to as Matlock. "The D.A. will probably…"
Whatever else Jeff was going to say was cut off by a knock on the door followed by Diana sticking her head in saying that he was needed with Dean. I knew that that was not good but I couldn't dwell on that, I needed to get out and solve whatever was going on.
When Jeff walked into the interrogation room the police were setting up a video camera.
"Counselor…" Pete started. "Your boy decided to confess."
"Dean, I really advise against doing that." Jeff stated.
"Talk directly into the camera." Pete stated. "Start by stating your name for the record."
I clasped his hands in front of him and leaned in to look into the camera.
"My name is Dean Winchester. I'm an Aquarius. I enjoy sunsets, and long walks on the beach, and frisky women. And I didn't kill anyone. But I know who did… or rather what did. Though it can't be for sure because our investigation was interrupted. But we are working on the assumption that it was a vengeful spirit that killed both Tony and Karen Giles." I explained. I was about to go on when he was interrupted.
"Excuse me?" Diana asked.
"Oh, you know Casper the blood thirst ghost." I replied before continuing on. "Tony Giles saw it. And I'll bet you anything that Karen saw it too. But the interesting thing is the word it leaves behind as a sort of calling card in a sense, 'Dana Shulps'. At first we thought it was a name, and in a way it was. It was an anagram for Ashland Street. You know, like 'redrum'. Whatever is going on, whatever this spirit is trying to tell us, I'm betting it all started there."
"You arrogant bastard!" Pete yelled hauling me out of my chair and slamming me into the wall, all in front of the camera. "Tony and Karen were good people and you killed them in cold blood just like that girl in St. Louis."
"Oh, no that wasn't me either." I stated turning my head slightly to look into the camera. "That was a shapeshifter creature that only looked like me. What you wanted the truth."
"Lock this fucker up!" Pete demanded letting Dean go with an aggravated huff.
The two detectives went to talk to Sam only to find the room empty, it was the same with Kat. All that was left was a note that read '-Hilts, it's Ashland street. –McQueen.' They then whent to check on Kat only to find her missing as well.
Sam and I stuck to their agreed upon meeting point, should they ever get separated, of the first motel in the yellow pages and booked a room under the agreed upon name. Once they were both there they started to do research on any violent deaths that occurred on Ashland Street.
I sat in the interrogation room waiting for someone to return and question me some more. Suddenly the female cop, Diana if I remembered correctly, entered the room looking like she had seen a ghost.
"Can we make this quick, I'm a little tired from being assaulted by your partner." I stated somewhat annoyed.
"I, uh, I want to know more about this stuff, ghosts and shifters and things." Diana stated sounding slightly panicked.
"Time Life: Mysteries of the Unknown." I replied sarcastically before realizing that there might be more to her request.
"Let's pretend you're not entirely insane…" Diana began.
"Not really what you want to say to someone that you are asking for help." I interrupted.
"…What would one of these things be doing here?" Diana continued ignoring my interruption.
"You mean a vengeful spirit? I mean it's kinda in the name." I clarified and Diana nodded.
"Well there are a couple reasons spirits stick around. You know, unfinished business and all that jazz. But vengeful spirits are created from violent deaths and come back with the main purpose of getting revenge on those who hurt them." I explained.
"So, uh, these spirits are capable of killing people?" Diana inquired sounding increasingly nervous.
"Where did you get that?" I asked seeing the bruising on her wrist.
"I don't know. It wasn't there before…" She stated inspecting her wrists.
"You've seen it, haven't you?" I asked.
"H-how did you know?" She asked sounding frightened.
"Karen had the same bruises on her wrists, and I'll bet so did Mr. Giles, but it has something to do with the spirit. I know you think you're going crazy, but let's skip that bit and jump to how my brother and sister can help you. The last two people who saw thins thing ended up dead soon after so go to them, they will help you." I stated. "Go to the first motel listed in the yellow pages and ask for Jim Rockford."
"You're giving your siblings up?" She asked.
"I'm telling you how to stay alive. Despite what you think about us we don't actually murder people." I replied, and with that she left to go find Sam and Kat.
Sam and I sat at the little table in the room looking through case files to try and see if we could pinpoint who the spirit was. Suddenly there was a knock at the door. We both drew our guns on instinct as we approached the door to see who was there. I opened the door and came face to face with the woman who arrested us the last time she showed up at our room. Though this time she was alone and looked scared.
"I need help." Diana stated in what could almost be considered a whimper.
"Well come on in I guess." I stated moving aside to let her in.
Once she was inside she retold her story about what happened on her computer and her encounter with the spirit in the bathroom. She then showed us her wrists and explained that Dean had told her how to find us. The big thing that stuck out to me in her description of what happened was that Diana said it looked like the spirit was trying to talk to her. It was interesting in that it could mean that we are dealing with something other than a vengeful spirit.
"So, these showed up after you saw it?" Sam asked in regards to the two bands of bruising on both wrists.
"I…I guess." Diana replied. "God, I must be losing my mind. You two are fugitives, I should be arresting you both."
"Well go ahead then and arrest us, though I have to wonder how long you'll last with us locked up and unable to help. I mean Karen didn't even last an hour after seeing this thing." I chuckled. This woman comes to us for help and then starts talking about how she should be arresting us, that's just fucking rude.
"Kat, don't antagonize her." Sam rebuked. "Look you can arrest us later after you live through this alright?" This got a slight nod from Diana.
"Oh, hey since you saw her do you think you would be able to recognize a picture of her?" I asked.
"Yes, most definitely yes." Diana replied.
"Great, look through these and see if any of them look familiar." I stated handing her a thick stack of crime scene photos and pictures of people who went missing on Ashland street.
"How in the hell did you get those? These are crime scene and booking photos." Diana demanded.
"You have your skills and, well, we have ours." Sam replied nonchalantly.
She flipped through a few photos before stopping on one and declaring her to be the spirit.
"So Claire Becker, she was 28 when she went missing about eight, nine months ago." Sam read.
"But I don't know her! Why would she come after me?" Diana asked.
"Well she was arrested twice for dealing heroin before she died." Sam stated. "You ever work narcotics?"
"Well yea, Pete and I did before we moved to Homicide." Diana explained.
"Do you remember ever busting her?" I asked.
"No, not that I can remember." Diana stated.
"Well the report says she was last seen entering 2911 Ashland Street." Sam stated. 'I guess that's where we need to go."
"Well then, let's go see if we can find her body and put her to rest for good." I stated, though if my suspicions were correct she wouldn't be leaving until her killer stopped killing other people.
"Wait, what?" Diana asked in shock.
"We need to salt and burn her bones to finally put her to rest." Sam explained.
We quickly made our way to Ashland Street, where we stopped in front of a decrepit abandoned building. The inside was even worse than the outside. Everything was covered in cobwebs and there were empty liquor bottles strewn everywhere and used needles covered the floor. We each split off to search different parts of the building. It was extremely boring since nothing was happening, that was until Diana called out for Sam and me sounding absolutely terrified. I booked it to where she was too see the tail end of Diana's interaction with the spirit.
"What is it? What happened?" Sam asked.
"Well, I can say with like 98% certainty that we are not dealing with a vengeful spirit." I stated still a bit creeped out by how the ghost looked.
"What? How can you know that?" Diana asked. "She seemed pretty vengeful to me."
"No but that's where you're wrong. She was never going to hurt you, but rather, I believe, was directing you to her corpse." I explained.
"Why would she point us to her body? She has to know what's going to happen once we find it." Diana stated.
"Hey, Kat, help me move this shelf." Sam asked. We moved the shelf revealing a window with the remnants of the name of the store that used to occupy this building.
"Well, that explains the extra letters." Diana stated. Sam and I clearly both had the same idea, as we both turned around to see the shadow of the letters on the brick wall.
"We now know that she was killed here which means she's most likely buried behind that wall." I stated.
"Guess I'll go get the sledge hammer." Sam offered. He returned moments later and started in on the wall. The bricks giving way far easier that they ought to have. After making a small hole Sam looked to see if there actually was anything behind the wall.
"Yea, yea. There's definitely something in there." Sam muttered before going back to hitting the wall with the hammer. "You know, this is bothering me."
"Well, you are digging up a corpse." Diana supplied.
"Oh that's nothing new." I responded absent mindedly.
"No, it's that Kat's right in that no vengeful spirit would lead you to their body, they don't want to be put to rest." Sam explained.
"Ah, so now we are on the same page. I've been thinking for a while that this might not be a vengeful spirit. Rather I think that poor Clair has become a death omen." I remarked.
Finally Sam got the opening big enough that we could get her body out. She was wrapped in a tarp with her throat slit so deep you could see a hint of bone and her hands zip-tied together.
"Well, that would explain the bruising." Sam commented.
"Do you recognize that?" I asked noticing that Diana had picked up Claire's necklace.
"Yea, I've seen it before. It's rare, custom made down on Carson Street." Diana explained bot Sam and I giving her a strange look she reached into her shirt and pulled out an identical necklace. "I have one just like it, Pete gave it to me."
"Well, we can now change that to 100% certainty she is not a vengeful spirit." I remarked. "She's not killing anyone, she's trying to warn them."
"Detective, I hate to ask this, but how much do you know about your partner?" Sam asked.
"Not nearly as much as I though I did." Diana replied. She then went on to tell us how about a year ago a bunch of heroin went missing from lockup. That it must have been Pete who took it and was using Claire to sell it.
"Holy shit! Your partner is a fucking psychopath and he is in charge of Dean's case. That son of a bitch is gonna try and pin everything on him." I exclaimed turning and running for the door. We needed to get to the station ASAP.
Only it was on our way back to the precinct that we learned that Pete had left the station with Dean.
I was moved to a holding cell shortly after my talk with Diana. I waited there for a few hours before Pete came for me, dragging me out of my cell, through the station out to the loading area, finally shoving me in the back of a transport van. I started to get the feeling that I was really, really screwed. I waited about five minutes before saying anything.
"So, I'm being extradited to St. Louis, huh?" I asked triying to get a sense of just how much shit I was in. "And you just decided to transfer me the 800 miles yourself, in the middle of the night?"
I got no response from the guy. I was starting to panic slightly when the van made a sharp turn off the road. I really started to panic when they stopped and Pete dragged me from the van and threw me to the ground.
"You're a cocky son of a bitch." Pete stated pulling out his gun and pointing it at me. "You think those people in St. Louis are gonna buy that crap about a shifter? Unfortunately you're not gonna make it to St. Louis. You are going to die trying to escape."
"Wait! Wait!" I exclaimed. I just needed to buy some time, then Sam and Kat would find me and I wouldn't die. "Let's talk about this. There's no need to shoot me, that's something that you're gonna regret."
"But the thing is, I'm not gonna regret this. I've killed innocent people before, Christ I killed a good friend of mine to keep him from talking." Pete spat.
"Pete, put the gun down!" Diana called out causing Pete to turn the gun on her.
"Diana? How the hell did you find me?" Pete asked.
"We know about Claire and how it was you who stole the heroin from lockup." Diana responded.
"I don't know what you're talking about." Pete claimed trying to act innocent.
"Put the gun down Pete." Diana restated.
"No, I don't think I will." Pete replied. "What does it matter, he's just some no good scumbag criminal."
"Hey! Fuck you! That's my brother you're talking about!" I yelled. "If anyone here is a no good scumbag criminal it's you, you fucker!"
"Watch your mouth you little bitch! I have no problem putting a bullet in your brother's brain!" Pete practically growled.
"Put the gun down Pete!" Diana demanded.
"No! You may be fast, but I'm pretty sure I'm faster." Pete declared.
"Why are you doing this?" Diana inquired.
"Look, Diana, I had no choice. Claire was about to turn me in!" Pete tried to explain.
"What about Tony and Karin? Why did you kill them?" Diana puestioned further.
"Same reason. Tony started getting antsy, wanted to come clean. He scrubbed the money and then got all skittish. So I had to get rid of him and I'm sure he told Karin everything so she had to go as well." Pete rationalized.
"How many more people are you going to kill over this?" Diana demanded.
"Just them. They got no one to miss them, in reality we'd probably be doing the world a favor, taking out some garbage." Pete stated. "Dean here is the perfect patsy! Kill him and tell everyone he tried to escape and hang the whole thing on him."
"What about the other two?" Diana asked sounding like she was actually go along with this plan.
"Well, they'd have to go too, seeing as they are witnesses to this." Pete calmly stated.
"Uh, Diana please tell me that you are not actually considering going along with this?" I asked starting to get a little scared that we may not be walking away from this case.
"Diana, please, I still love you." Pete continued completely ignoring me.
Those seemed to be some kind of magic words because Diana lowered her gun. Thinking that Diana was on his side Pete turned away from her and back to Dean. The minute his eyes were off her Diana quickly raised her gun and shot. Pete fell to the ground, allowing Dean the time to get away. Once Dean was over closer too us I ran over and knelt down to start undoing the cuffs on Dean's hands.
"Then why didn't you buy me another necklace, you ass?" Diana asked advancing on Pete. She got a bit to close and Pete tackled her to the ground getting hold of her gun. He got up, made sure that none of us were gonna get anywhere near him, then turned the gun on Diana. It was at that point that Claire showed up distracting Pete for long enough that Diana was able to get her hands on Pete's gun and put a bullet through his heart.
"Thank you." I stated solemnly. "I can't imagine how hard that must have been for you, so thank you for saving all of our lives."
"Are you doing alright?" Sam asked.
"No, not really." Diana replied. "The death omen, Claire, what happens to her now?"
"It should be over now. She should be at rest now that justice has been served and Pete can't hurt anyone else." Sam answered.
"So, uh, what happens to us now, officer?" Dean inquired trying to be as respectful as possible considering that she did save his life. And while he may be an ass, he knows that you don't disrespect the person who saved you.
"Well, Pete did confess to me, and he royally screwed up all three of your cases. There is a good chance that the cases against you will be dropped. Though there is absolutely nothing that I can do about St. Louis, now that they know that you are not actually dead. I can't help you with that." Diana explained. "Unless I happen to turn my back and you three escape."
"Are you sure? I mean that's gonna look reflect really badly on you." I stated.
"Yea, she's sure, Kat!" Dean said sounding exasperated.
"Look, I learned that there is a lot of shit out there that on one really knows about, so I want you out there doing what you do best." Diana stated. "You three need to be watching your backs right now, they are gonna be out there looking for you three."
"You, uh, you wouldn't happen to know what happened to my car?" Dean asked.
"It's at the impound yard off Robinson road." Diana stated before walking away.
And with that this nightmare of a case was over. Though since we didn't have a car we had to walk back to town, or at least to the outskirts of town.
"So what's the plan to get the Impala?" Sam asked.
"Well I was thinking that, Sam, you would go distract them while I hop the fence, slip into the office snag the keys and just drive her out." Dean stated sounding rather proud of himself.
"Good plan, or it would be if it weren't for the tiny problem that the fence is electrocuted." I stated before walking off up to the office. Leaving my two gob smacked brothers behind. I walked into the office, only to find the attendant passed out at his desk.
'Well this is going to be easier than I thought.'
Working quickly and quietly I found the keys the Impala. Grabbing them I left the paper work I'd taken when we were at the station and made my way out of the office to rejoin my brothers. Now all we had to do was find the damn car. Thankfully it didn't take that long and before I knew it we were driving out of the impound lot.
"So how did you get the keys so easily?" Dean asked.
"Well I told they kid manning the desk that I'd show him my tits if he gave me the keys." I stated deadpan just to get a rise out of Sam and Dean. It took them both a second to process what I'd said and then Dean slammed on the breaks and pulled over to the side of the road. They both quickly rounded on me.
"What!?" They demanded in unison. Damn their faces were priceless and I couldn't help but laugh.
"Kat, you better not have done what you said you did!" Dean ground out, completely in big brother mode.
"Dean, what do you take me fore? An idiot? Of course that's not what I did." I said still laughing though kina hurt that he would think I'd actually do something like that.
"Good, I really didn't want to have to go back there and beat the shit out of the attendant." Dean sighed in relief.
"No, but really how did you get the keys?" Sam asked
"While we were at the station they stuck me in this room with a bunch of paperwork. In my boredom I decided to look through it and stumbled across the form for the release of property from impound, along with some report that had been signed by Diana so I filled it out, forged her signature and tucked it away. I just walked in gave they guy the paperwork and he handed over the key." I explained.
"Oh." Was the elegant response of my two brothers.
After that we returned to the new motel room packed up our stuff and headed out to find a new place to crash for the night, or well day. All three of us were exhausted, personally I felt like I could sleep for a week.
Hope you enjoyed. It may be a bit before I can update again. I'm taking the last classes I need to graduate over summer so they may take up most of my time.
