HalfafanD: It's been FOREVER since I've made an update on, well… anything. I feel horrible for it. It's been a mix of things that are reasons why. 1: School; too much work, we students have a life you know that does not involve work you know! 2: Deviant Art; I've been doing some DA stuff cause since this year I have Art II I've been in an artistic mood all the time. 3: 'Phantom Shooter' revised; been working on that project so that's also the reason nothing fanfiction has been updated lately. 4: Laptop; this Thanksgiving, I was hoping to finish 'Total Drama Phantom!' update and get some other updates started but… I forgot my laptop at my mom's house while I was at my dad's, oh silly me. 5: Writer's block: I've been having trouble for inspiration or maybe forgot for some other stories. And 6: I've just been kind of lazy :P. But hopefully I can do a lot more uploading now.
Disclaimer: If I never said I owned DP; what makes you think I would own that show now? Nothing! I don't own Danny Phantom!
Dueling Dentist
Danny entered through the glass doors of the orthodontics along with his mom, Maddie, following him close behind. Danny couldn't help but freeze in place, unmoving as all eyes in the waiting room fell upon him. What were they all staring at? Oh yeah, him; he was still in his ghost form.
After their little discussion at the police department; the appointment was set and Danny had to ride with his parents to the dentist. But his mom had to drop off his dad, back at home because he wanted to get started on those ectoplasmic-braces bands; much to Danny's silent protests.
With how far the dentist was from Fenton works; him and his mom passing the time in the car by playing music and talking to Danny normally as a son, it was easy to forget that he was Danny Phantom the whole ride over.
Snapping out of his trance once Maddie passed by him, he followed her to the front desk. The woman had extremely short brown hair and hazel eyes as she was typing some information out. She then noticed us.
"Hello." She greeted in a chipper mood. She smiled widely at the white haired boy. "You must be Danny Phantom; this is my first time meeting you in person." She stood from her chair and reached across the desk to shake hands with the town hero.
Danny kindly received the hand and hummed in response. The ectoplasm and blood had stopped filling his moth after the constant bleeding. Now his teeth were just sore; the most he could do as verbal conversation was noises and humming; anything else would flat out hurt.
"We're here for that appointment." Maddie clarified.
"Yes; with Dr. McRenold." She the pointed to a computer to her left facing toward Danny and Maddie. "If you would just spell you last name and click 'ok' on your appointment he should be with you soon."
Danny nodded and walked over. He noted that there was no keyboard but on a long shot, he pressed the 'F' key on the screen. It registered. It was a touch screen. Now understanding how it works, he spelled the rest of his name and hit 'Enter' next to it; only for nothing to show. What? But he did everything the woman said to do. And then it hit him. Duh! He was in Phantom form and attending the appointment as Phantom, so the appointment would be under his ghost form's name, Phantom.
Blushing at his mistake, he hit 'back' and typed in his ghost last name. Only one result showing up Danny clicked it and hit 'ok'. Noting that he was done, he turned to see Maddie talking to the woman.
Apparently another showed with long red hair. It was clear that from her way of speaking that she was foreign and still getting use to the language and talked strange but still well enough for you to understand her.
"I've just never had to get braces while I was growing up." Maddie stated. Danny noted that somehow the conversation about him getting braces had drifted to just braces in general. "I've always wondered if it ever hurt or not."
The other woman just smiled. "Oh, no; it no hurt."
But from a door three feet away from the group Danny heard a girlish man scream, "OW, OW, OW!" The noise startled the bunch and even caused Danny to jump slightly at the sudden slice through the easy going near silence.
"What was that?" Maddie questioned. Danny silently wondered the same thing.
The woman looked strait at Maddie in the eye and simply replied. "Oh he big baby."
Danny and Maddie just stared. Danny sure hoped he wasn't a big baby. (HFD: HA! Bill Engvall reference! All credit goes to him on that funny story. It's not mine)
Taking that as the end of the conversation, Danny and Maddie walked to take a seat in the many chairs. Danny looked around awkwardly wondering what to do while many stared at him and even video taped him. Maddie just sat calmly and read through many of the magazines they had provided.
But the awkward silence didn't last long as his iPhone began to vibrate in his pocket. He then pulled out the flat touch phone that Sam got him for his birthday. The case was also given to him by Sam as and added and slight gag gift. It was one of many different styled mass produced Danny Phantom phone cases. It was split half and half of the colors black and white; white being on the right and black being on the left. Then there was his emblem that was in the middle that was also split in the middle with the colors of black and white except opposite of the background on each side.
As Danny looked at his phone to see who texted him, he heard one or two snickers from the many eyes watching him, probably 'cause of the case. Ignoring them as best he could, he unlocked the phone and went strait to the message app; another text from Tucker.
Tucker and Sam had been texting him as much as they could from school ever since they witnessed him getting p'wnd from Jonny. But he hadn't been able to reply back due to his hands being full tending to his mouth to keep it from bleeding. And considering that this appointment was going to take a long time, it would probably be the best way to pass the time.
He then started a group message between Tucker and Sam and began to type on the small touch screen keyboard. (HFD: I'm pretty sure a lot of you think I'm going to start writing all text style right? Well I text the way I type 'cause I was never the text-aholic like a lot of other girls are except for the every now and then LOL, ;) like faces, and K, KK, and OK. My mom's even more text-talk like than me. So the conversation's just going to be written how I text normally, ok? BTW, you can't use italics or bolds in texts so those might be capitalized instead.)
Danny: 'Hey guys. Sorry I haven't been responding. I got tire decked in the mouth and my mouth was bleeding so much I had to keep spitting it out and rinsing with water. I'm at a dentist office now waiting for an appointment to get braces.'
Danny waited a little while for their reply. He knew that him an his friends didn't text each other very often mostly because they were always together in person. And because of that he and his friends took longer to text than normal people who were addicted to texting. The phone vibrated again, telling Danny he got a new reply.
Sam: 'It's okay, that must have hurt for you not to reply for a long time. The news hasn't said anything new about you except for you getting hit in the mouth. And everyone's buzzing about you nonstop wondering if you're ok. And as much as I hate how this school so blindly gossips about you, I was pretty worried enough to listen in as much as I could to find out anything new.'
Another vibration occurred as Danny finished Sam's text. He read the next reply.
Tucker: 'Yeah, sucks for you man. I wouldn't last 2 seconds if I found out I had to go to the dentist. Those people are maniacs. Think I can have your computer if you don't make it? ;P'
Danny snickered at that one, or as close to a snicker as he could get with his aching mouth. He could feel everyone's eyes on him turn curious; what was it the great hero Danny Phantom found funny. Even Maddie turned her attention from the Genius Magazine issue she was reading and look at the reply on Danny's phone. And after reading it, she giggled as well. Danny began to type back.
Danny: 'I thought you were afraid of doctors, nurses, and hospitals. And no way man. Do you know how long it took to convince my parents to get me one after being forced to use that old dinosaur of one in the basement?'
*vibrate*
Tucker: 'I'm afraid of anything with sharp pointy sticky things. The only difference is that they're called dentists and have the smell of bad breath rather than sick people.'
*vibrate*
Sam: 'I think we're getting off topic.'
Danny: 'Yeah Tuck. Besides, I'm the one getting braces; not you.'
*vibrate*
Tucker: 'Don't let your guard down on them Danny! They might have a different name than doctors, but they're still as dangerous and scary! They even make you breath laughing gas and make you laugh until you can't breath and then you're never heard from again!'
*vibrate*
Sam: 'That's not what laughing gas does to you, genius. They give it to scared panic people who hate pain like you to help you not feel what they're doing to your teeth and it helps you stay relaxed.'
*vibrate*
Tucker: 'Than why is it even called that? I'll never understand those people'
Danny: 'But maybe Tucker has a point. I'm not saying I'm flat out scared of this. But laughing gas makes you all loopy and you have no idea what you might say while under it and you sometimes forget bits and pieces of what happened. What if I accidentally spill my secret if they use it on me?'
*vibrate*
Tucker: 'OMG! I was right; dentists ARE EVIL! D:'
*vibrate*
Sam: 'Don't listen to him, Danny. I don't think they'll use it on you. They don't use it on people when giving them braces.'
Danny: 'Yeah but my mouth was totally busted remember? My teeth are jumbled, chipped, and up in my gums. They're going to have to fix my teeth with fillings, bringing the teeth down, and tons of other stuff before giving me the braces. They're DEFFINATELY going to be using it on me.'
*vibrate*
Tucker: 'I TOLD YOU! EVIL!'
*vibrate*
Sam: 'Knock it off Tucker, you're not helping! Don't worry too much, Danny, I'm sure you'll be fine. Besides, they'll be messing with your mouth anyway. You won't get to talk much anyway.'
Danny: 'You're probably right.
"Danny Phantom?" A young woman called. Danny looked up from mid text and noticed a woman standing by the now open door that led to all rooms of dentist chairs and tools. Danny then quickly texted his goodbyes and stood up, quickly putting the phone back in his pocket and follow the woman through the door and down the halls. They finally came up the room he was apparently assigned to and walked in. (HFD: I was going to end it here but I decided to extend it for you. You're welcome)
Danny took his seat on the blue patient chair and laid back on it like he was suppose to. He then watched as the woman was apparently messing with a long tube connected to a large container on wheels. The tube actually had two ends and both connected to the tank; the middle of the tube having what appeared to be some sort of nose mask. He watched the woman turn certain dials on the wheeled object and mess with the mask and add a string to it to loop around; probably to help it stay connected to his face and prevent it from falling off. He wanted to ask or confirm if they were using laughing gas on him, but obviously, he couldn't talk.
After a minute or two watching the woman tinker with the device, she finally turned to Danny.
"Alright Danny, because of your teeth being in bad shape right now, Dr. McRenold's going to have to wiggle the teeth pushed up in your gums to loosen them so they'll come down while your wearing the braces. He's also going to have to put fillings in your chipped teeth.
"We're going to have to have you breath in this laughing gas to help you relax. But we'll also inject a shot in your gums to help numb them so you won't feel anything being done to your teeth. And while under the gas the most you'll feel of the shot will be a tiny prick. It'll be sort of like having a surgery on your teeth. Now could you please lift your head up for me real quick so I can put the mask on?"
Danny complied as she strapped the string around Danny's head and place the mask on Danny's nose. It was then that he realized that it wasn't even on yet. He also found it nice that she was calling him by his first name instead of 'Phantom', 'Mr. Phantom', or even his full ghost name 'Danny Phantom'. That's usually what everyone in Amity Park calls him.
"Now usually when giving people braces, we don't tend to give them laughing gas. But since we have to fill in and bring down the teeth first we'll have to use it. All the past patients we had said it always smelled kind of fruity but I wouldn't know since I've never had it." She then reached down to turn it on before stopping as if remembering something. "Oh right!"
Danny then watched as the woman walked over to the corner of the room where small paper was located on the counter and picked it up to bring it over to him. Now getting a better look, he could see a sloppy child sketch of him in his ghost form. Oh, now he knew where this was going.
"My son absolutely adores you. I was hoping today you could sign his drawing of you. I hope you don't mind."
Danny shook his head smile to say his didn't and sat up to sign the child drawing using the sharpie the woman gave to him, using his thigh as a surface. He handed back the drawing and she put it and the sharpie away before turning on the machine.
"It should take a while before the gas takes it's effects so it should be a while before Dr. McRenold comes and a little longer before we officially get started. So just hang tight until he gets here."
Danny nodded and she then left the room. Danny just began to stare up at the ceiling as he breathed in the gas. The machine and the tube vibrated from it being on as the strange smelling gas entered through his nose. It didn't really smell fruity to him, but it did have a strange sweet smell. He was also pretty thankful for both the dentists and himself that he wasn't afraid of this place like Tucker, otherwise they would've had a lot of trouble getting him this far alone because of his powers. He just hoped that he didn't accidentally reveal his secret.
HalfafanD: I'm going to go ahead and end it here. Hope this satisfies you. I recently had a bunch of huge English essay tests to do and they were all persuasive. And not that I aced them or anything cause I rock in English, but why only persuasive, WHEN CAN I WRITE THE STUFF I WANT TO WRITE AND UNLEASH MY IMAGINATION?! We may never know. Maybe it's because I'm taking a certain level in English and maybe I'll get the fun stuff next year.
Please review, no flames please.
