Goin' speedy fast. I think. Not really. Yo. How's it going. Enjoy.
Becca's eyes slowly fluttered open. Her vision was a bit blurry at first, same as most people upon waking up, then cleared up to see Flo, Lightning, and Siddeley sitting around her bed.
"Flo?" She tried sitting up. "Light? What's going on?"
"Hiya, honey." Flo smiled warmly, taking Becca's hand. "You're burning up."
"Way up…" Lightning added.
"…how up?" Becca asked, then burst into a coughing fit.
"…up," was all Lightning said.
"Am I going to die?" Becca whispered.
"…Holley called and told me that they were getting close to finding an antidote…" Siddeley spoke up. "Uh… She said they were having a little trouble, but t-they're going as fast as they can." He concluded. "You're gonna be okay…"
Becca looked around at the friends around her bed, then back down at her hands. She shook her head. "I'm going to die, aren't I?"
"No! No, you're not, we're…" Sid almost reached for her hand, but quickly pulled it back. "She said they were almost done."
"Siddeley, honey?" Flo looked over at him. "I know it probably won't help, but do you think you could get a doctor?"
Siddeley looked over at Becca, then back at Flo. "Sure." He nodded.
…
"How's she doing?" Holley asked over the phone.
"Worse and worse." Siddeley answered. He was sitting alone in Becca's kitchen playing with one of the apples from her fruit bowl where he sat in front of. "We got a doctor over here, even she says we're…" Siddeley cleared his throat. "We're running out of time."
"I know, Sid, I know… We're so close. I promise."
Becca kept falling asleep and waking in and out, like a crooked pattern. Sometimes Siddeley was with her, sometimes he wasn't. Holley kept Siddeley updated until he knew they were coming.
He practically ran into Becca's room with the news that the spies were almost here with the antidote.
"Are they gonna be here on time?" Becca asked.
"They have to be." Siddeley wasn't sure anymore if he was convincing himself or Becca.
"She really doesn't have much longer." The doctor said with a concerned look on her face.
"They're gonna be here in time." Siddeley said, more confidently this time. They have to be… he repeated, this time in his head.
…
Finn and Holley rushed in within the next ten minutes.
"Oh, thank god…" Flo sighed. Lightning remained quiet, and Finn handed the doctor the antidote. Luckily, she had brought with her an IV with her from the hospital, knowing they couldn't take Becca there.
The doctor looked skeptical. "Are you sure this i—?"
"Yes," Holley handed her a slip of paper, apparently authenticating the antidote.
Everyone was silent as the blue liquid made its way through the IV tube. They all looked over at the doctor.
"…no change…" She announced.
"What?" Flo asked. "How is that possible?"
"I don't understand." Holley said to herself. "We had—"
"This is your fault!" Lightning burst out, jumping to his feet.
"Lightning—" Flo began.
"No. I said it before and I'll say it again—you're the reason we're ever in danger nowadays! If the whole thing with Mater never happened—if you just found out who he was—my sister wouldn't be dying right now!"
Lightning tried punching Finn in the nose, but he brought his hand up to block his fist. Finn remained calm. "Lightning," he spoke at a much softer volume than Lightning had. "This isn't going to help Rebecca's condition."
Lightning stormed out, Flo in close pursuit. "Lightning!" She called after him in a scolding tone.
The doctor checked one last time, then left the room, as well.
"Becca?" Siddeley softly asked, walking over to her bedside. "Becca, are you still awake?"
Becca looked over at him. "For now, I guess…" she whispered.
"Becca, I—I—I need to tell you something." He grabbed her hand. "If I don't, I—I'll never… Never forgive myself." He frowned and looked down at his hand, now on top of Becca's.
Becca searched his worried eyes. "What is it…?"
"I…" He started saying but stopped. He looked up at Becca, then back down trying to find the right way to say this. He sighed. "I…"
"I'm… Sorry…" He choked out. "It's my fault…"
"No, it's not." Becca frowned. "Please, it's not. Siddeley?"
"Yeah?" He asked, still not looking at her.
"Please, it wasn't your fault."
"Becca, I… I wanted to… To tell you that I…"
Lightning came back in the room, calmed down slightly, now. Siddeley looked back at Becca, to see she was drifting back asleep. Siddeley blinked back tears and tried to conceal his emotions from the others.
It was too much—he fled from the room.
He fled from the house. He didn't know what to do. What could he do?
He decided walking around in the dusty area behind the houses clumped together with Becca's. There was nothing left to do. Becca was going to die. Becca was going to die without knowing how he felt.
Who was he kidding, if she was smart enough, she would've figured it out herself. It was incredibly obvious. He could even feel his face go red whenever he talked to her. How could she not have noticed? It was foolish to believe she hadn't.
Even more foolish to believe he could have had a chance with her.
Glancing up, he noticed two men hanging around the area, as well.
"Wait a m…" Siddeley whispered to himself. It was Grem and Acer.
Grem cried out as he realized he had been forced against a wall. "What the—?!"
"What the hell are you doing here?" Siddeley practically growled. "Haven't you done enough?!"
"Hey, hey! Watch it!" Grem grabbed Siddeley's arms that currently had him pinned. "Listen, we—we can help!"
"Help? Help how?" Siddeley glared.
"You have to listen to me. CHROME came up with some rinky-dinky antidote, right?"
"Yes…" Siddeley said.
"And it didn't work, right?"
"No." Siddeley answered.
"Right, just as the Professor made the virus. Incurable. Eh… To some extent."
"'To some extent'? What is that supposed to mean?" Siddeley gave Grem one last shove then let go of him.
"It means we have an antidote that will actually work right here." Acer spoke up. Siddeley turned to look at him.
"And I suppose you're just going to give it to me." Siddeley sarcastically said. "What's in it for you? What is it actually, some kind of zombie virus?"
"Seriously?" Grem raised an eyebrow. "Why would we do that?"
"Because we're not on the same side." Siddeley glared.
"No, the zombie thing." Acer said. "Seriously, have you watched or played The Walking Dead? We'd die in the first week."
"Shit, Acer, now I'm thinking of Clementine."
"Now I'm thinking of her! Why'd you have to bring that up?" Acer shoved his cousin. "Ow-w-w!"
"O… Kay…" Siddeley chose to ignore that.
"Nothing's in it for us. Just…" Grem handed Siddeley a glass vial. "Just don't tell the Professor… Or anyone… Deal?"
Siddeley hesitantly took the vial. "…deal."
Grem and Acer later disappeared without a trace.
…
Becca sat the couch in her living room sipping hot chocolate out of a mug. She realized it was strange, since it was relatively warm in Arizona most of the year, but she found it always had a comforting feeling while drinking it.
She was channel surfing for a while, but got frustrating that nothing was on, so she started up Netflix and was watching a random episode of Doctor Who—something she hadn't done in a while.
As she was taking another sip, there was a knock on her door.
"It's open!" she called, then realized that's probably what got her into the past mess. I need to start locking that… She thought to herself.
Siddeley timidly stepped onto the carpet. "Hi." He greeted.
Becca smiled. "Hi." She threw a throw pillow onto the other side of the couch. "Take a seat."
"Yeah." Siddeley obeyed and sat down next to her.
They sat in comfortable silence for a moment, watching the TV.
"Which episode is this?" Siddeley asked.
Becca decided not to make a comment along the lines of, 'you tell me, you're the British one' but instead simply answered, "The one with the Sontarans."
"Listen, Becca…" Siddeley began. "Back when you were… You know."
"Yeah?" Becca looked over at him.
"I don't think I can explain how scared I was."
"Hey…" Becca put her hand on his shoulder. "It's over now, though."
"I know… But I still wanted to… To tell you…"
"Becca raised an eyebrow. "Sid, what are you trying to say?"
"Look, I…" He took a deep breath. "I like you."
Siddeley waited a few seconds. "…a—a lot."
More silence.
"I like you, too." She let out a shaky laugh. "But Sid… After everything that just happened, I don't think either of us wanna deal with anything else for a while." She took Siddeley's hand. "We'll sort it out later over coffee or something?"
Siddeley smiled. "Sounds good to me."
"Good." Becca squeezed Sid's hand. "For now, let's just watch TV."
That didn't take too long, I guess. I meant to finish that in a few hours, but instead it took all day because there were a bunch of interruptions.
No, none of them were YouTube this time! XD
So I hope that was a nice wrap-up to this story. Sorry it took so long. Also, sorry it got so cheesy earlier in the chapter. I'm not even gonna reread that to check for errors, I'm scared my head might implode. I had the idea for the end of this story about two years ago, now, I recreated it the best I could while at the same time improving it into something I could actually write today. Oops.
So, a review would be much appreciated if you enjoyed, and please go check out mah YouTube channel with my best friend. It's called YinYang224. *shameless self-promotion*
Peace!
