Soul Eater Final Part 2

That night, no one really felt like going to bed early, so they all decided to hang out in the living room.

"I'm glad that you're home," Liz said.

"Me too," Kid said. "I bet Flander was dying being away from her gaming system so long."

"Uh-huh," Flander nodded once. She was sitting in front of the television like she always did, playing one of Kid's bribe games. There was silence for a moment; all that was heard was the clicking of Flander's controller. Kid and Flander both looked up when they heard the front door open.

"Hey, hey! What's up, buttercup? And Kid, you're hear too."

"Hello, father," Kid greeted.

"Hey, Dad," Flander smiled at him. "Deciding after we almost died to come home more often, huh?"

There was absolute silence.

"Oh god," Kid thought. "Did she really just say that? He doesn't get angered easily, but that was crossing a line."

"Yep!" Lord Death sang, moving to sit on the couch with the others. "It's okay to visit my kids every once in a while, right?"

He brought Flander and Kid into a big hug. Flander gagged slightly as the combo was messed up on her game, but she paused it and tossed the controller aside. Liz and Patti got the vibe that this was a family moment and began to retreat from the room, when a voice of someone they trusted stopped them.

"Hey, you two," Kid called. "Where are you going? Come on; you're a part of this family too."

They didn't think twice before running back to the couch and joining the group hug.

"So…" Kid began. "Why didn't you tell me mom was a witch?"

"…"

"Oh my god," Flander thought. "That was crossing a line. Darn, this silence is so awkward."

"Well… it didn't come up!"

"Of course it didn't," Kid sighed. He got to his feet. "I'll go make some tea."

"We'll come with," Liz offered, skipping after him into the kitchen. "I'm feeling snackish."

"Guess it's just us," Flander chirped, smiling at her father. Lord Death nodded and stroked the side of her hair with a single finger.

"You look so much like your mother," he said. "So, what were you doing before I barged in?"

"Nothing much," Flander shrugged. She gave him a thumb up. "I just gotta start playing all those games that Nii-nii gave me for taking all those pills or they'll start to pile up."

"Well, then, by all means, don't let me stop you~!"

"Okay," Flander crawled back to her spot on the floor in front of the TV and picked up the controller.

"What are you playing?"

"Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds," Flander replied. "I decided to play story mode as Amaterasu. I've got almost all the combos down already."

"That's interesting."

"I see that look," Flander grinned.

"What look?!"

"The 'I don't know what you're saying, but I'll be supportive' look. Kid gives it to me a lot too. Face it, you're just trying not to hurt my feelings."

"Am not."

Flander turned to him with a devilish cat grin plastered on her face.

"You're your mother's daughter alright," Lord Death said. "I couldn't even keep up with her. I can't imagine how she found the time to do all that."

"Yeah, it's totally awkward surrounded by such busy people," Flander laughed, turning around again. "I don't know what I'd do without Soul to hang out with sometimes."

Click!

Lord Death was quiet for a moment as Flander continued playing. He realized that he may have hit a rough spot with Flander.

"Listen, Flan…" he began. "Are you lonely without your mother around?"

Clack! Click! Clack.

"… No, not really. I mean, Kid's here and you're such a spazz that it's almost like having two parents around."

"I guess," Lord Death chuckled half-heartedly. He thought about Kyoko like he hadn't in a long time. Even though she was blowing him off, he knew Flander was too.

She was watching from far away. She decided to pay them a small visit.

Kyoko's spirit sighed as she entered the mansion. She floated through the hallways, following the sounds of happy voices and laughter.

"It's been so long since I was here," she said. "Sounds like Death's home. I wonder what they're all doing now."

"The tea's ready," Kid said, walking into the room. "Flan, get off that gaming system. Dad doesn't come over that often; the least you could do is join us."

"Okay," Flander said, shutting off the system and joining them, at the table. She put her legs under the blanket; it felt nice around the heater since it was getting cold outside. Kyoko smiled.

"Kid's acting like more of a parent than Death is," she laughed. "He's so grown up for his age; I hope Flander isn't making it too hard on him. He already has his hands full with those two girls, but they've been good for him."

Flander froze in mid-sip and set her teacup down. She jerked her hands out, smacking them together loudly several times.

"Is that a mosquito?" Patti asked.

"Yeah," Flander sighed. "But I didn't get him. Don't you hate it when you slap a mosquito and you get a bunch of blood and stuff on your hands?"

"Flander," Kid sweat-dropped at her vulgarity.

Lord Death suddenly jerked his hand out, slapping Flander across the face. Flander curled up on the ground, confusion and fear marring her delicate features.

"I got him!" he sang, holding up his hand to showcase the dead bug on his palm. "He was about to take a bite out of you, Flander."

"He thought I was a chicken sandwich," Flander sighed, sweat-dropping.

"You shouldn't get mosquitos like that," Kyoko, Kid, and Flander thought at the same time. "It's child abuse!"

"Perhaps," Kyoko relaxed. "But your father's intentions are for what's best for you, so you should listen to him, okay? I hope they're doing alright."

"By the way, Father, I've been thinking," Kid spoke up. "I know it never came up and stuff, but I'm bringing it up now and I'm a bit curious about mom."

"Okay. I'll have you know that she was a nerd like Flan, but she was also really clumsy and moe too; sometimes I think she was so stuck in the game world that she looked for an undo button every time she screwed up the laundry."

"What?" Kyoko asked. "But… that's not true!"

"That's not really what I was asking…" Kid said.

"I hope you won't tell him anything bad, Death," Kyoko said. "I can tell he's still not quite over all the stress he's been under lately, especially about me."

"I was just kind of wondering about… um…."

Kyoko turned, tilting her head slightly.

"Come on, Kid, you don't have to be so shy about it," Lord Death encouraged him.

"Just ask him," Kyoko added. "He's your father; you can trust him with anything."

"I was wondering why you married her," Kid admitted quietly, looking down. The room fell quiet, which only made Kid squirm. "I-I apologize. I should have known better than to ask that! It's not really my business, anyway…."

"Look at me, Kid," Lord Death ordered. Kid did as he was told. He was surprised that his father didn't seem angry about this. "What about this confuses you so much? Is it because she's a witch?"

Kid nodded slightly. He knew he was probably going to get a lecture about not discriminating about witches so much.

"Well, you know she was only half-witch," Lord Death explained. "When I met her, I was as surprised as you were; I almost decided to stay away from her. She was always in danger; back then, people didn't accept anything out of the ordinary. I decided that it wasn't her fault, but more her parents' business to sort that out. Besides, there was so much more to her than magic and mistrust; she was a normal person underneath."

"Alright, and I guess that doesn't bother me that much," Kid admitted. "But still, even then she's a cute otaku. She just doesn't seem like your type is all, so it's kind of weird hearing about her from Flander."

"What, did you expect me to marry some refined woman, always dedicated to work and the like?"

"I see your point," Kid mumbled. "That marriage would probably just end up with her parenting you so much that she's too busy to raise us, and there you have it, you have no heirs."

"I can't believe you said that," Lord Death and Kyoko said in unison.

"But sometimes I think about it," Lord Death admitted. "Sometimes I used to forget why I married a Lolita otaku whose best interests included Japanese pop-culture and videogames."

"Gee, thanks," Kyoko scoffed. "But I rethink marrying you too sometimes. I know I shouldn't, but sometimes I forget why some random man made me smile so much."

"Well, tell us why," Flander pressed on.

"Well, I feel like she was the only person I could trust, and I was the only one she could trust. It was that simple act of kindness within her that made me positive that she was who I wanted to be with. And now I never doubt that no one loved Kyoko as much as I did."

Kyoko smiled warmly.

"Yes," she said. "That's it. No matter who or what I was, he was always there for me. He accepts the all the good in me, as well as the bad. I was sad that I was away from him and Kid so long; I wish I could live a thousand more years to spend it just with them, but Flan's with them now. She's done something for them that I could never understand."

She moved to sit at the edge of the coffee table with them.

"I miss them so much, but as long as they keep my spirit alive in their hearts, I will always be watching over them. I hope their lives will be blessed with as much hope and joy as mine was."

"That's really sweet," Liz said.

"Yeah," Flander added. "It's almost too perfect, like something you'd see in an anime."

"Reaper CHOP!"

"Flander, we were having a beautiful moment!" Lord Death growled, annoyed. "Honestly, it all leads to anime and manga with you. Maybe we should take it away for a while."

"No don't!" Kyoko and Flander screamed at the same time, even though they knew he was just kidding.

"We should burn it," Kid suggested, holding up two matchboxes.

"No! Don't burn it!" Flander shouted, throwing herself protectively over her pillars of anime and games.

"I'm gonna burn it!" Kid sang, trying to find a blind spot in Flander's defense.

"Don't you dare burn that anime!" Kyoko ordered.

Yes, life would be chaos, but peaceful chaos. Flander would continue her hobbies, Kid would continue with his soul collecting, and Lord Death would continue with his work. All this time, Kyoko would be watching over them, and waiting for the day that they could see each other again. It was all a matter of time, but they could all wait. Yes, they could all wait.

So, that's the end of Cute, Almost Symmetrical Younger Sister. I had fun writing this fanfiction, with many ups and downs in the process. This is definitely another story that I can archive in my brain and be proud of the experience I've gained and things I've learned throughout this adventure.

How did you like it? Suggestions? Requests? Flame if you want to; I could use a bonfire to roast marshmallows on. :) I hope you enjoyed reading this story, whether you're reading it right this second (that would be creepy) or in 2088 when would definitely be destroyed and you found this in some relic of an archive somewhere. Well, it's been fun, guys, but auf wiedersehen for now.

See you next dream.
