A New Balance Chapter 4

Xander reached over and took his mom's hand in his and then gently tugged her into his arms. Her head ending up tucked into the crook of his neck. She stiffened and then relaxed a little into her son's embrace.

"Not long after I had realized I had the sharigan, even though I didn't know what it was, events around me started to show me a little of what my eyes could do. Like meeting a girl essentially trapped in a genjutsu(illusion) that made no one see her."

-Flashback- Out of Mind, Out of Sight, S01E11

Xander decided to stay in the boys' locker room after gym class so he could continue testing his ability to turn his eyes on and off. He rolled his eyes as he heard Mitch, Cordelia's most recent boy toy, messing around with his friends. He heard the guys wander out and figured it was safe to work on his eyes for a little before he had to meet up with Willow. He wanted to see if they were different in different placed.

"Who's there?" Mitch called out.

Xander turned his head from the pocket mirror he was using in a shower stall. He had thought he was alone. He frowned as he realized he could hear a girl giggling.

"Okay, fun time's over, come out."

There was a thud and Xander rushed out of the stall only to see an unfamiliar woman hitting Mitch with a bat. He ran forward, grabbing the bat and throwing it aside before grabbing the girl's wrists.

"What's wrong with you?"

"You can see me?"

"Of course I can see you!"

"No one has been able to see me in months!? Wait! What's with your eyes?"

Xander eyes widened as he quickly turned them off only for the girl to vanish from sight but he could still feel her wrists in his hands. He turned his eyes back on and she reappeared.

"...Months?"

"I turned invisible in English class 6 months ago. No one could see or hear me since."

"What's your beef with Mitch?" Xander nodded to the unconscious boy.

"He's Cordelia's boyfriend. She's only dating him because he's the star pitcher of the baseball team anyway."

"This is about Cordelia?"

Marci nodded and then smiled as she realized Xander really could see her.

"So I'm Xander, I also dislike Cordelia although it's never driven me to violence before, and I've recently discovered I can turn my eyes red and that it apparently let's me see invisible people."

"I'm Marci. I was in 4 classes with you last year."

"OK… If I let you go will you not try to escape?"

Marci nodded, getting a strange enjoyment out of Xander seeing her head move. She wasn't about to leave the side of the first person who could see her.

Xander let her go and glanced at Mitch, making sure to not let Marci get out of sight and he considered what to do about this.

-end flashback-

"I made an unusual alliance that day. A promise of silence about my eyes and an interesting sparring partner for myself and Buffy."
