CHAPTER 11

"I'm sorry. I didn't know how else to... I couldn't... Caroline, I need to talk to you."

"Klaus. It's just you," she breathed a sigh of relief and felt her whole body relax against the door frame.

"I'm assuming you were worried it was Silas or something?"

"Haha," Caroline laughed humorlessly. "I think for once he decided to leave all of us alone. Haven't heard from that monster since we received word he left that island."

"That's right," Klaus agreed. He looked down almost shyly then peeked up at her from beneath his lashes. He seemed to be finding the proper words to say whatever he wanted to say.

Caroline came to the sudden realization that the immortal hybrid was in her room. In her room. There were boundaries and it's not like he was her boyfriend or anything. She contemplated telling him to leave but if Klaus took the time to actually sneak up to her room then whatever he wanted to say must be important so she decided to wait. After seconds that felt like hours, the silence was finally broken.

"I'm sor—"

"Thank you."

"What?"

The hybrid's forehead creased in confusion as Caroline smiled adorably.

"You're kind of forgetting that you saved me. And I don't understand why you're apologizing. It's me who should be saying sorry," she started. "I mean, I never took the time to look for you or at least text you a thank you note or something granted I was busy with school and stuff but that doesn't change the fact that I was being stupid and ungrateful I mean you saved my life! It's not like you lent me algebra notes or saved my cat from a tree I don't even own a cat but yeah back to the point it was a life or death situation and you," she continued earnestly as she looked up to him.

Her words dissolved into nothing as Klaus closed the distance between them and crushed his lips to her mouth. He didn't even realize what he was doing until he felt her lips part softly in surprise. His mind was lost between hearing her words and the breaths she took in between and his gaze was torn between her bright blue eyes and her sweet lips. He didn't realize how much every moment before this was nothing compared to what he was feeling now. And he suddenly felt really conscious about his hands. What was he supposed to do? Carress her hair? Hold her hips? His dilemma was solved when he felt her warm ones on his wrists but they weren't pulling him in but pushing him away.

"I can't. Something happened today and I think that…"

The disappointed look in Klaus's face immediately made her regret what she did.

"What do you mean?" he asked carefully.

"It's too fast," she finally said. She shook her head and her blonde waves shook with it. Klaus longed to touch them and feel their softness, hold her close but he was brought back to reality by her words.

"I-I understand," he said. It was amazing how much of a personality shift he could have when he was with this girl. He suddenly felt scared and angry at what she was capable of. She could turn a murderous bloodthirsty vampire werewolf into a snivelling desperate boy. But there was one thing he knew for sure and it was that he wanted her. If he intended on having her it was going to be because she wanted him. She could never see him vulnerable so before she could see how broken and angry she made him, he left.

And with a blink, he was gone, leaving a very dazed and confused but somewhat breathless Caroline at his wake.

*12 hours earlier and back in the Bennett Residence*

"It is good to see you, Castiel."

"Wait so all along, it wasn't Bonnie I was talking to but the angel Qetsiyah?"

"You're mission here is one of almost no progress. We've seen no sign of the demon Silas in Mystic Falls," Castiel spoke and as usual completely not minding Sam's interjections.

"That is because you are looking in all the wrong places," the witch answered with her eyes glazed over. "The demon is currently gathering his witches. The last sacrifice requres twelve and with a ritual in need, too, he is looking for the right time and place for the slaughter."

"And when and where would that be?"

"One where there will be enough souls to draw power from to successfully kill twelve powerful witches and finish the ritual. Castiel, Silas must be stopped. Lucifer can not rise to power. Heaven will not allow it."

She started shaking as her words came out faster and more slurred.

"The spot. You must figure out the third point in the expression triangle and then all will be—"

Castiel suddenly felt her spirit leave and an unconscious Bonnie was left in front of him.

"So…" Sam started.

"Call Dean," said Castiel.

"You mean the Qetsitooya chick randomly up and left and now we're just left with one freaky and very vague clue about some triangle?"

"First of all, it's Qetsiyah," Sam corrected over the phone "and second she said expression triangle, whatever that means."

"First of all, I DON'T CARE," Dean said mockingly as he bit into his burger. Behind him was the hustle and bustle of students and workers putting up the stages and setting up the place. "And second, in case you being a professor puts you too far up your ass to even understand the simplest of English that I'm going to have to explain it to you, expression is a feeling. Just like how I'm feeling incredibly pissed that you're eating up my time with this crap when I have precious seconds to spend here helping out in this music festivial…thing!"

"Dean, we're hunters. Not construction workers. What in the world are you doing helping set up for…—Caroline." Sam finally got it. He brought up a hand to his face and sighed. "Okay, fine. It's not like I had to deal with this kind of thing from you every other case we worked so, um, Cas and I are gonna look up this expression triangle thing and ask Stefan or someone to help out. You just come when you're done with..whatever you're doing. Keep a look out for Silas and for God's sake don't be out too late this time."

"Yeah yeah. I was never the research boy anyways. You're the one who went to college! Leave me to do the fieldwork and just update me on what you find. See ya!" Dean quickly hung up the phone before Sam could say anything else. "Hi," he greeted when he saw Caroline approaching him.

"So the benches are fixed!" she smiled brightly. "I just wanted to say thank you. Couldn't have done all of this without you. Can't believe the festival is already two days away. Can you watch this, please? I'll be right back!" She handed him a brown shoulder bag before she bounced off to the stage microphone.

"ATTENTION! Thank you one and all for giving your time and effort to ensure this event's success. Today's work is officially over! Please make sure to be here on the day itself on your corresponding call times. LATES ARE STRICTLY FORBIDDEN," she emphasized loudly. "A few reminders, logistictics team, please find a way to make sure that…"

Dean watched her as she read off a list of notes for the committees. She was so strong-willed and put-together. It's as if she never went through a traumatizing near death experience just two days ago. She just woke up the next day as if nothing happened and worked her butt off for the sake of everyone counting on her. In a way she reminded him of his mother and how despite everything in the past, she'd still find it in her and do everything for her children and people around her. 'I have got to stop daydreaming, though' Dean thought as he looked at the beautiful blonde again.

"And yeah that's the last of it!" She finished. "Tomorrow will be a rest day! Enjoy and rest up for the day after. Thanks again!"

She quickly climbed down the stage and walked towards him again.

"I am completely exhausted. I really hope everything goes well." She chewed her lip as they both walked to the parking lot. Dean was the one who gave her a lift to the football field where the event was gonna take place and he earlier offered to be her ride back home.

"I'm sure that any project that you're in charge of will be amazing," he assured her.

She let out a long breath as she relaxed into the passenger's side of Dean's impala. "Well I hope so." She turned to him and smiled brightly, "Thanks again."

Not for the first time, Dean was caught by her smile. "Y-yeah, no problem."

He blinked quickly as he started the car. 'God, I need to stop being such a loser. I'm turning into Sammy!' he thought. And the drive was quiet, not an awkward but comfortable silence. At least for Caroline it was. She was staring out the window, contemplating the day's events when Dean suddenly spoke up interrupting her busy thoughts.

"So did you have any plans for tomorrow?"

"Well it is a rest day. I was thinking of spending it at home cooking or something just anything that'll keep my mind off everything happening right now. And I don't just mean the festival."

"Haha right. That's cool." He continued driving, looking straight ahead.

"Why'd you ask?"

"I can cook."
