A/N: What? Update? That shit cray! I know, I'm sorry y'all, I am the worst at keeping on top of my fics! Anyway, I hope this helps make up for it... Enjoy! :)

Banging resonated throughout her room and ten year old Quinn Fabray jumped awake. Her trembling form turned to stare at the door she kept locked. The banging kept getting louder and she prayed with everything she had that he wouldn't knock the door down. Just then the banging stopped and she held her breath, waiting to see what was going to happen. Like many nights before there'd be banging on her door in the late hours of the night. Quinn slowly counted the seconds and was about to go back to sleep when there was a quiet knock. "Quinn? They left," a gentle voice whispered through the door.

Three knocks rapped against her door and Quinn bolted up. Hair was in her face and sweat was dripping down her body, soaking her sleepwear. She ran a trembling hand through her hair and shakily called out, "Who is it?"

"It's Kate," the woman called out through the door. "May I come in?"

"Y-Yeah, you can come in," Quinn replied as she sorted herself out as to not appear as a complete mess.

The door slowly opened and the hall light outlined Kate's figure. Looking over to the door Quinn had to quickly remind herself that it was in fact Kate and not the person from her nightmares. Quinn took in Kate's concerned expression and waited for the brunette to say something. She didn't have to wait long for as soon as Quinn looked at her Kate said, "I'm sorry to disturb you, but I heard crying and just wanted to check and see if you were alright."

Quinn stared at the woman disbelievingly. There was only one other person who ever checked up on her and that person was far from near. She didn't know what to think, what to say, what to do. She knew she had to think of something to say to reassure Kate; Kate who is the mother of Charlie and has yet to treat Quinn badly. And yet she couldn't bring herself to say anything. So she just nodded.

Kate knew she wasn't okay, knew she just had a nightmare, but she wasn't about to push the teen into talking to her about it if she wasn't ready. "Alright then. Why don't you get ready for school and I'll go down and start making breakfast?" Again Quinn nodded. Kate gave a soft smile before she backed out of the room and closed the door behind her.

Just as the door closed, Quinn's alarm went off. Shutting off the annoying alarm, the teen fell back unto her bed and did her best to wipe the haunting memory away from her mind. She then made her way over to the bathroom and flicked on the light. Turning on the faucet Quinn allowed the cold water to run before she used her hands as a cup and splashed some on her face. The cold water seeped into Quinn's pours and helped wake the blonde up.

Thirty minutes later, Quinn was dressed and heading down the stairs. She was about to enter the kitchen when she heard hushed voices coming from the dining room. Pressing against the wall, she listened to the quiet conversation that was taking place. "She just got here Kate; you know what she's been through. Give her time and if she chooses to open up, she will when she's ready. You can't force the girl into it." Matt. Quinn smiled at his words.

"I know that. But you didn't see her last night, Matt. She looked absolutely terrified."

"She's been through a lot, but you have to let her find her own way through what she's been through. Just be patient with her." He said before he kissed his wife on the forehead and made his way back to the kitchen where he loaded his dishes into the dishwasher. Quinn however was out the door before he could see her.

She doesn't remember the drive to school; the events from this morning kept playing in her mind. She knew she was going to have to talk to Matt and Kate about it eventually, but she was praying it would come later. She just got here and it was the first home in years that she felt comfortable in. They were the first family that didn't have the father coming in her room at night, there was food on the table, questions about how her day went, their son willing to just sit in the room with her inside of try and get her in trouble. So far they were the best family she had been in for a long time, and as soon as she opened up to them, she knew something was going to change. And she wanted to prevent that change for as long as she could.

She was currently walking down the hallway towards her locker to switch out the textbooks she would need for first period when she almost ran into a brick wall. Well it wasn't so much a brick wall as it was three cheerleaders, the head with her hands on her hips, one looking sorry, and the other looking as if she was ready for anything to happen. Straightening her back, she raised her eyes to stare the head in the eye. She looked pissed and she really did not want to deal with whoever this was first thing in the morning. "Can I help you?" She inquired.

"Listen I know you're new here and everything, but you should mind your own business," the head replied.

"What the hell are you talking about?" Quinn quirked an eyebrow at them, clearly they had something better to do.

"I'm talking about the incident with Berry and the slushy yesterday." Okay, apparently that was normal around here. What the hell kind of school was this exactly? "Look you're new, so I'm going to let that one slide, but next time stay out of the way."

Quinn couldn't believe this girl. Was she serious? Shaking her head, Quinn mused, "First of all, who the hell are you? And secondly, yeah that's not going to happen. If it happens again I'll kick your ass."

"Excuse me? I am Santana Lopez, head cheerleader at this joint. And you can try, but it won't end well for you." She said before the girl to her right reached out and touched her arm causing her to then roll her eyes at Quinn. "Just stay out of the way, Fabray." She threatened then Santana and her posse left.

Quinn shook her head as she continued her way to her locker. Reaching her locker, she quickly made the switch from the books she needed for homework for just the ones she'd need for first period. After making the required book swap, she closed her locker and almost jumped when she saw a tall boy waiting on the other side. His smile was lopsided and she internally sighed. Just how many people were going to talk to her this morning?

"You must be Quinn. I'm Finn," he offered with a smile and an outstretched hand for her to shake.

Shaking his hand, she gave the boy a small smile. He didn't seem as tense as Santana, and even though he was wearing a letterman football jacket, he appeared to be kinder than the other mindless football jocks around here. "Hello," she supplied, silently waiting for whatever reason he had to sneak up on her to reveal itself.

She didn't have to wait long for the reason for as soon as the hand shake dropped he kept his smile and said, "I just wanted to thank you for what you did for Rachel yesterday. I know it really meant a lot to her being as she couldn't stop talking about it last night." Rachel wouldn't stop talking about it? She had to bite her lip to keep her from smiling too much. "I'm usually there, but I wasn't that time and I know you're new and didn't have to, but thank you, really."

"Are you her boyfriend or something?"

At the question his smile grew and he nodded. "Ever since last year when we met in Glee."

Of course someone as wonderful as Rachel would already have a boyfriend. Why wouldn't she? It was clear that anyone would be lucky to have someone like Rachel on their arm and in their life, to be able to kiss and hold whenever they wanted. Plastering on a smile, Quinn said, "Congratulations. Well it was nice to meet you, Finn, now if you'd please excuse me I have class to get to."

"Oh, of course, yeah. I guess I'll see you around then, Quinn."

Quinn left Finn standing at the locker as she made her way to first period English, which she shared with Rachel. Arriving in the classroom she saw the empty seat next to Rachel and didn't hesitate to sit beside her friend. So she has a boyfriend, whom seemed like a nice enough guy, that wasn't going to change how she acted around the brunette. She at least could aim to be Rachel's best friend for the time being, and if it escalated to something more later, she wouldn't be opposed to it. Smiling at the girl beside her she pulled out her notebook and pen. Rachel smiled at the blonde. "Good morning, Quinn."

It hadn't started out as such, but staring at Rachel now Quinn felt like it was going to be a good day.
