Okay, updating and editing this. I have grown as a writer, and this story has grown with me. I looked it over and cringed. For the direction I wanted it to go it was no where ready to go there. Thus reworking.

Now know: I only own the idea for this AU. Nothing more.

Warning! Character Death, OCs, AU

If you enjoyed Jacklin's powers in the original: Yay! They are still around but they have changed some. It will be explained in the next chapter.

Enjoy!

The Eldest

(Chapter 1)

Falling Trough Ice

It was just a cold winter day. Just like any other. Jack wanted to go out and play in the cold and Lily happened to persuade her to let their brother teach her to skate on the ice. Jacklin just shook her head and told them to be careful.

"We will." Jack had told her.

Only half an hour later the door banged open, showing a crying Lily. Jacklin immediately went to her and asked what was wrong.

"Jack. Ice. Fell." The child sobbed out.

The eldest of the Frostbite siblings did not waste a moment. Not even grabbing a shawl, she ran out to the lake by their house. The only things she saw were: a discarded pair of skates, a random crooked stick, and a large hole in the ice. She stared at the hole for a moment before running on to the ice, much to the disapproval of her younger sister.

"Lin!" Lily called, panicked.

But her sister ignored her. Making sure that the ice could hold her weight as she slid and wobbled was not easy. She ended up laying down on the ice and pulling herself to the hole. The cold from the ice seeped into her arms and stomach. Her legs shaking as the touch of frozen water hit them as her stockings were not the best for this type of thing. Fingers turning blue and her breath forming a cloud in front of her face Jacklin finally made it to the cracked ice.

The ice groaned and cracked slightly at her weight. She could hear Lily call to her in worry. Taking a breath Jacklin let the feeling of cold air settle into her lungs before slowly moving forward. Looking down into the murky deeps she could not see her only brother. Plunging her right hand into the water she tried to reach for him, to bring him to the surface. The ice groaned under her. The sound of cracks forming under her weight made her mind start to panic. She had to hurry.

Her left hand holding onto the edges of the ice causing small droplets of blood to fall into the freezing water under her. Brown eyes wide in fear, she reached out further. Hoping. Praying. Wishing with all her might. That she would reach her brother.

The ice groaned under her. Cracks forming and nearly moving apart.

Hurrying she pulled her arm out of the hole and rolled to another part of the ice. Barely getting out of the way of the new hole in the ice where she was just laying.

Panting, Jacklin closed her eyes for a moment before moving again. This time onto firmer ice.

Lily was screaming and the sound of skates on ice met Jacklin's ears. At least she moved onto a safer part of the ice.

Blue tinted fingers clenched as a bleeding hand pressed down onto the ice.

Her brother. Her moronic, fun loving, annoying, idiotic, lovable brother was dead. And she couldn't do anything to help him. Nothing! Killed by her stupid need to be in the house during the winter months. If she been outside with them or even looked out the window once in awhile, she could have gotten there sooner. She could have saved him then. Tears prickled at the corner of her eyes.

No. She would not cry. She did that only once in her adult life. She had to be strong.

Even though it felt like her soul was screaming in denial. That her heart was shattered.

Wasn't it ironic that her dear little brother, the very same one who could make her swear in very unladylike ways, was drowned in the very lake he loved?

Jacklin thought so. Bitter laughter forced itself through her lungs. The clearing soon filled with the sound of hysterical laughter and sobs.

Lily had eventually knelt onto the ice next her her and grabbed onto her sleeves. Tugging at them in the attempt to get her up and off the ice.

It took a long while for Jacklin to do so. Yes she was cold, but at the same time numb. It was a soothing feeling. Yet a harsh reminder that she had failed as an older sister.

The original had her up at the hole without the threat of falling in herself. I ended up shaking my head at that and tried to make it a bit more realistic.

Do not try that! Get help from someone who knows what they are doing! We live in the modern era! There are people who know how to handle these types of situations!

Anyway, up next: Jacklin's feelings and powers.

So Forward!
