Chapter 6:
It was dark, crickets are heard in the far end, away from view. Mist was slowly seen closing in, filtering more and more sounds while I walk around feeling lost and searching for something I haven't figured out what it is. A sudden sound it heard behind me and it takes a second for me to register that it's the sound of a dog barking. I quickly turn around to see the animal standing just a couple of feet away from me. I recognize this dog, though its name will not come to me, but something tells me it's friendly. Carefully I kneel down, tempting the dog to me while I reach my hand forward.
The slightest touch of his nose against my fingertips makes me remember its name, 'Sebastian'. It's the dog I had when I was little. A shiver goes through him and I notice his eyes turning from dog-like to slits, from warm brown to a pinkish color. His fur starts to move in wave-like movements, changing from short blond to long black hair and back like the waves on an ocean. I retract my hand as he begins to growl at me. He furls his lips up revealing a row of glistering teeth.
I stand up and take a step back, but my movement makes him crunch down to the ground and crawl up to me, still showing his teeth and growling. I take another step back resulting in a loud angry bark from him. His fur has by now turned completely black as he looks at me from the ground. He slowly gets in a sitting position and when I try to step back again his growling intensifies so I refrain myself from stepping back any further not wanting to provoke him even more. He seems to be growing slowly reaching my eye level, making him able to look me straight in the eye.
All the sounds have been cancelled. Everything has been washed out by the mist. The only thing that can be seen or heard is Sebastian before me, watching at me and growling in the back of his throat like he is waiting for something. Something to happen or something for me to do. I carefully look away from the now pinkish eyes to look for a way out, to see if I can escape from this dog that no longer resembles mine.
I see nothing, nothing that could be of any help. I feel myself being forced to look back at the presence before me like it is calling me to do just so. When I look back the dog is gone, but what is left is worse. As soon as I think I would have eye contact with the beast before me a knife flashes in front of my face and gets directly into my eye, I scream as a manic laugh finds it way to my ears.
The first thing Sebastian noticed when he woke up was that he had actually fallen asleep again. He remembered talking softly to Ciel while he waited for the boy to fall in sleep. Undertaker had walked in his cabin without giving a notice, but the boy in his arms had prevented him from lashing out to the man. They had talked for a while, before he was left alone with Ciel afterward. "Guess he unconsciously forced me to help heal him again after tearing the cuts all open yesterday." Sebastian whispered softly.
Then he noticed the faint whimpers coming from the boy in his arms. He looked down to see the eyes, behind closed lids, move rapidly from side to side. The boy was clearly dreaming but not a good dream. Sebastian softly brushed Ciel's wet hair, from cold sweat, out of his face while calling him. "Ciel, Ciel wake up. You're dreaming."
The whimpers became louder before the boy jolted awake with a start, pulling himself and Sebastian away from the wall they had been leaning against. Sebastian had to pull Ciel back to prevent him from jumping up completely and making his wounds rip open again.
Sebastian looked in the boys eyes, glad to see they were not glaced over like last time. He figured Ciel might be in his 'right' mind for now, though he didn't know for how long. He watched as Ciel tried to figure out where he was and saw his right eye pulsate now and then in its purple color along with feeling the pull inside himself.
Ciel looked at the man holding him. He was somewhat familiar but he couldn't really say why. He looked around him taking in whatever he could to figure out where he was exactly. Feeling something strong holding him he watched for what it could be and followed it till he was face to face with the man again. A name began to for in his mind and he slowly spoke it as if tasting it first before speaking it out loud. "Sebastian…"
Sebastian nodded at hearing his name but did nothing more. He wanted to see what the boy would do now that he was more awake than he had been the last two times in the basement of that house or yesterday.
A sharp pain went through Ciel's body ending in a throbbing pain in his right eye. He tried to lift his hand to his eye but the movement was blocked by the hold Sebastian had on him, resulting in him groaning and falling against the said man.
Alerted by the sound and the feeling of pain Sebastian watched the boy in his arms. He decided to let Ciel go and lay him down on the bed, but the movement only hurt Ciel more. They had been in the same position for a whole night so the wound that had started to heal a little were stretched as he was laid on his back.
Closing his eyes he waited for the pain to subside. It didn't take long before the worst was over and he opened his eyes again, looking at Sebastian. "Where.." he started to ask, but wasn't able to finish his sentence as another wave of pain hit him.
Sebastian not needing the spoken words to know what the boy wanted to say helped him by answering the unspoken question. "You're on my ship, in my cabin in my bed to be exact." The flash of fear that hit him when he said 'my bed' let him know that it was the wrong thing to say so he quickly explained himself. "Dont worry, I won't do anything except for when YOU…" making sure Ciel would understand it was him he was talking about. "… give me the order to do so. I will only make sure your wounds will heal properly. I won't ever do what Baron Kelvin did to you, my lord." Sebastian was hit with another flash of panic followed by confusion as he had said 'my lord'.
Smirking to himself Sebastian enjoyed his connection he had with this human. Every single emotion the boy felt was returned to him through the contract. He had never experienced such a strong contract before, it was truly remarkable. But he had to admit, never before had he felt any interest in a human either before the human would specifically ask for him in some way or the other. This time it had be he himself who had shown interest first. The boy hadn't even known of his existence before Sebastian had appeared before him, blocking his way when he had tried to escape.
Finishing what he had started he continued. "I brought you here after that man had mutilated you to a point where you unconsciously asked for my help. We have made a contract resulting in me giving you your eyesight back into your right eye, which had been taken out by that man, …" A shock went though Ciel as he listened and memories came back to him, but Sebastian choose to ignore them and went on. "… in exchange you have a contract on that eye, making it purplish 'cause of the combination of you own eye color and the pinkish demon essence."
Sebastian looked at the boy to see if he was still following everything he was saying and was glad to see that he in fact was still listening though cold sweat had started to cover his body again and he was shaking a little from the effort to stay awake. The boy really needed a lot of time before he would be able to even sit up on his own without passing out. Still he continued, "That same contract is burned in my hand so every other demon knows that you are mine and I am yours." He left out the bit about eating his soul when he dies just for fun, the boy will come to learn that again in time when he was recovered. "You have been here for four days now in which I have tried to clean your wounds and see the extend the cuts that have been made. Most of them will heal without scars, though there are some that are slightly deeper. Besides that I have found that Kelvin has made you take Opium for some time and that there was a large doses in your system when I brought you here."
Ciel blinked a couple of times working up the energy to answer the man before him. "I-I know." he croaked out. "He gave me a dose every t-time he t-tortured me. L-Last time he gave me a lot more than he would normally do." Ciel let out a heavy breath and felt himself fall back into darkness. The listening and speaking had already taken all his energy from him.
Sitting next to the boy on the bed Sebastian unconsciously checked for his temperature when he felt his heart rate go up. Deciding he had said enough he wanted the boy to sleep some more. He softly placed his hand over the boy's forehead, but was shaken off in an instant.
"No, you can't." Ciel groaned.
Sebastian pulled his hand back in surprise not expecting to receive any resistance at this point. He looked in the boys eyes, but didn't need that to feel the fear that was working up inside the boy.
"I d-don't want to sleep. You did this before, you let me sleep even t-though I didn't want to. I don't want to d-dream. You can't make me." Ciel kept shaking his head from left to right still trying to prevent Sebastian from laying his hand on his forehead.
Feeling his heart rate spike even more to the point is was dangerous he began to worry. "Bocchan, It's alright. I will be here besides you, and when I notice you're having a nightmare I will wake you up like I did just a couple of minutes ago. You don't have to worry about that. You just have to rest to make the healing go faster."
Ciel stopped shaking his head to look at Sebastian, and saw his hand coming again. Somewhere inside him he knew Sebastian was right and so he let him place his hand on his forehead.
Feeling his temperature was making Sebastian really worried. Undertaker had said that a human body was not allowed to get to hot cause it would interfere with the body's functions. He had said to keep a close eye to his heart rate and temperature cause it could indicate that something bad was happening inside the boy that could not be directly seen or noticed.
Sebastian was pulled out of his thoughts by Ciel as he struggled to say something. "n-no nightm-mares…" Sebastian let himself smile as he felt Ciel being pulled to sleep and remembering his words. "I won't let you have nightmares, Bocchan."
A small uplifting of the corners of Ciel's mouth was the only indication that Sebastian's words were heard by the boy. He let himself wonder a little through Ciel's mind to make sure he would indeed not have any nightmares, 'cause they could result in trashing, making the wounds re-open. When he was sure Ciel was sleeping peacefully for a while he stood up and walked to his desk where Undertaker had laid down the books he had asked for. He thought back at the infuriating conversation he had with the man, all the while keeping a close eye on the broken boy on the bed.
Undertaker let himself into the cabin of the captain, only to find the said captain with the boy in his arms. The look he received was one bend on murder, the only thing saving him from that was again that boy in the captains arms. He felt a laugh taking over, thinking that their 'powerfull' captain was restrained by a mere sick boy.
"Hè hè hè, you know captain, you really look like a puppy right now. Sheltering its master for harm that may befall him. But then again a puppy's eyes don't glow pink and their teeth wont grow when provoked. Hè hè hè its a rare sight indeed." Undertaker was almost giggling by now from the sight he was seeing.
"Why have you come?" Sebastian all but growled out.
"Hè hè hè Tanaka told me you were looking for these." Undertaker revealed three books that he had been keeping in his sleeve. "I've got a book on the human body and its needs. I have brought a book thats all about the drugs the underworld deals in, I am sure opium had his whole own chapter. And there is this book I thought would be of interest seeing I can smell the poison all the way in my medical cabin. That nicely carved name on his back…"
The temperature in the room started to drop dramatically and the growling became clearer by the minute.
"…Hè hè hè, well captain they do say barking pups wont bite. Though in this case I think its better to say that restrained pups cant harm you." Undertaker took a couple of steps toward the bed and patted Sebastian on the head before quickly jumping out of the way when a foot nearly hit him. "Now there captain, we don't want to make the boy to much would we. Oh that reminds me, I was just trying to say that if I smelled it right the name in his back is carved with a poisonous knife. Regretfully I can't remember what the name is, but I do know what it does. It makes wounds heal a lot slowing with a lot more pain. It would probably feel like being hit by lighting over and over again until it's fully healed. It should be describes somewhere in this book, that I am sure of."
Undertaker leaned forward again and took another breath through his nose to examine the poisonous smell. "Yeah, that will defiantly give the boy a lot of pain to endure these couple of weeks, hè hè hè"
Sebastian tried to grab Undertakers collar but was halted in his movement when Ciel made a pained sound. He quickly sat back and stroked Ciel's hair unconsciously while he kept glaring at the man before him.
The man watched as the captain softly and carefully brushed Ciel's hair out of his eyes and how he made soft shh-ing sounds to calm down the boy in his arms. "Thanks for that sight and that laughter captain, you really paid me dearly this time. As a bonus I have another gift for you that might have your interest." Undertaker went into his other sleeve and pulled out another book, not revealing anything to the said man. He gracefully walked over to the desk in the middle of the room and placed the three previous books on it. Then he looked back at the captain with a devious smile gracing his mouth. "This book captain tells you all you need to know on how to love a boy. From the soft touches to the love making and beyond. Now remember captain, always prepare before entering an unexplored area."
Feeling his hold on his own composure slip away from him he let some demonic features show through. His hair began to grow again, his teeth grew even sharper, his nails started to grow, he felt the skin on his back stretching from hidden wings trying to force their way out. The room began to darken even though it was sunny outside. "UNDERTAKER, YOU SICK DISGUSTING PIECE OF DEMONIC WASTE, YOU CRAZY UNSTABLE USELESS…." Sebastian snarled but again the boy in his arms distracted him when he began to trash and turn in his hold.
"Now, now captain, don't wake up the boy, he needs all the rest he can get." Undertaker quickly walked to the door, knowing he might have gone just a bit to far in provoking the man on the bed. He opened the door and leaped through it. The door was almost closed, but he just had to make one more comment, e just couldn't help himself. "Captain, as I was saying… maybe it ain't that unexplored anymore, seeing where the boy came from." He quickly shut the door when he saw something coming straight at him.
The door was now shut and was smoking from the fire that had just hit it, nearly missing the had of Undertaker. The man was lucky for his quick reflexes, otherwise he would have had a free haircut.
Sebastian sighed and looked back at Ciel. The boy was still moving around in his arms, trying to get away. He let go of his demonic features and turned back to his human for, all the while speaking softly to Ciel that it was alright, no-one would do anything to him, he would be safe now.
Just when Sebastian thought he had Ciel calm and sleeping again the door opened one more time. A sneaky hand was seen as it quickly dropped a book inside the cabin. "Hè hè hè, oops nearly forgot to give the book to you." Undertaker laughter was heard as the door quickly closed a second time in less then a minute.
Sebastian eyed the book he had thrown in a corner of the room. He hadn't had the time to burn it yet. He wanted to burn the book in the most gruesome way he could think of and right now everything he thought of was still to nice to even further consider it.
Sitting at his desk he quickly scanned through the three remaining books he had asked for. They al contained a lot of information he could use now or maybe in the near future, though he sincerely hoped he wouldn't need to.
Looking back at the seemingly peaceful sleeping boy he sighed. It was time to inform the crew that he had taken a boy on the ship and that he in the next couple of weeks might be seen on deck, but that they all should not try to force themselves upon him. He sighed again, it was gonna be a long road before the boy would be even a fraction of what he had been the first time Sebastian had seen him.
