Home Chapter 8

Kakashi awoke sensing someone's chakra approaching his bedroom window. He sat up seeing an Anbu black Ops ninja. He was wearing a white tiger mask and the typical Anbu attire.

"Kakashi Hatake, Lady Tsunade requests your presence immediately."

Kakashi got out of bed and began to put his uniform on. He'd thought he was going to get more time with Iruka before he had to go on another mission, but with the Akatsuki having 7 jinjuriki, all of the 5 nations were unstable. The leaf maybe even more so. Of course The Leaf was one of the two nations that still had their Jinjuriki, but that only made The leaf more of a target to the other nations. Kakashi glanced at his lover as he pulled on his vest.

"Lady Tsunade also requests Iruka's presence." The young Anbu stated.

"What? Iruka?"

"Yes sir."

Kakashi woke Iruka and relayed the message. They both finished dressing leaving the house, and making their way to Lady Tsunade's.

They got to Lady Tsunade's office within minutes. Kakashi was confused and a bit worried as to why Lady Tsunade wanted to speak with Iruka, but he hid it well.

"Kakashi did the Anbu tell you why Lady Tsunade wants to see me?"

"Nope no idea. She must have a mission she wants you for. We are stretched pretty thin."

"Yeah. I'd been preparing for this eventuality. Every ninja needs to be ready."

They arrived at Tsunade's door knocking.

"Enter!"

"Thank you for coming Kakashi, Iruka. I called you here because I've been sensing that the Akatsuki will be coming for us soon. I want you to go and see if you can find them before the get here."

"Yes Lady Tsunade." Kakashi replied.

"Iruka?"

"Yes Lady Tsunade!"

"You'd offered to take on some missions previously. I'd like you to accompany Kakshi in this mission you shall have one other teammate and you'll be leaving tonight."

"Yes Lady Tsunade!"

It had been a long time since Iruka been on a mission but he'd been training. He'd stopped being a deployed ninja years ago knowing it was something he had not been very good at.

He'd been on a mission with Kakashi the last time in fact. He'd made a decision that he felt held is team back. Which had also gotten himself injured and put his team in danger. If Kakashi had not of been there he might not be here today to teach the young ones. It was also the first time he'd noticed how attractive the copy ninja was. Sure they'd grown up together but they didn't run in the same circles. Not long after that Kakashi and Iruka stared dating. It seemed like so long ago.

Iruka knew this would be a very dangerous mission all the Akatsuki members were highly skilled traitorous ninja. The few that had been taken out so far had caused the leaf to lose some of their best. Asuma, Juriya, and many more.

Still Iruka couldn't help but be excited he was going to be going on a mission with his beloved Kakashi. Who better to watch over Kakashi but him. Iruka was proud that Lady Tsunade had chosen him for this. She had faith in him and his ability to carry out such important mission.

"Lady Tsunade, if I may. I believe it is a mistake to send Iruka on this mission." Kakashi stayed plainly.

Iruka whipped his head in the direction of his lover his mouth agape. Even Shizune looked puzzled. He couldn't believe his ears. He stared at the side of his lover's face waiting for him to give a reason as to why he didn't think it was a good idea to send him.

"Well I'm sorry you feel that way Kakashi but we are spread pretty thin and we need this to work." Lady Tsunade countered.

"I must insist Lady Tsunade this is not a prudent decision."

"Wait a minute Kakashi!" Iruka boomed.

"Iruka!...Explain yourself Kakashi.." Tsunade replied.

Iruka was beside himself but he didn't want to have another outburst. So he turned back facing forward. Waiting to hear Kakashi's reason.

"Lady Tsunade I'd prefer to tell you in private." Kakashi replied calmly.

Iruka turned his head to his white haired lover again floored. He had thought that there were no secrets between them but apparently he'd been wrong.

"Iruka will you please leave the room?" Lady Tsunade asked.

"O-of course My Lady." Iruka said bowing.

He took one last look at the love of his life. Trying to see if he could figure out why he would say something like this. There was no reading his features they were smooth and without emotion. Iruka had seen that look before it was how Kakashi was when he was in mission mode.

Iruka left the toom crushed. It was mostly reconnaissance mission. They had no intention of trying to engage the enemy. But the Akatsuki were extremely skilled, dangerous and unpredictable. Maybe Kakshi didn't think Iruka could hold his own against them. Maybe his lover thought of him as a liability.

Iruka was embarrassed, his own lover didn't believe in him, and had shamed him in front of Lady Tsunade and Shizune.

Iruka was startled from his thoughts by the door to Lady Tsunade's office being opened.

"Iruka sensei please return to your home. Lady Tsunade will not have need of you for right now. " Shizune said bowing.

Iruka's eyes went wide, but he composed himself quickly then left. Kakashi had convinced her that Iruka wasn't a good choice. The brunette ninja racked his brian trying to figure out what Kakashi could have said to change her mind. The fifth was notorious for not being a led to be swayed.

Iruka was so distraught over the whole situation he could barely think straight. He couldn't go home he'd never be able to sit still at home waiting.

He was going to make Kakashi explain himself weather he wanted to or not.

Iruka ran at his too speed. Running just to run. He soon found himself at his classroom. It was true Iruka was a much better teacher than a regular ninja but he had the strength and will to fight for his village when they needed him. He knew he could do this. He just couldn't understand why Kakashi didn't think so.

"I knew you wouldn't go home." Kakashi said calmly.

Iruka turned to see Kakashi standing before him. His white brow was knit and his face was full of remorse.

"You know me so well, apparently I don't know you quite as well as I thought." Iruka sneered.

"It's not what you think Iruka." Kakashi said sighing.

"Oh it's not well than tell me what it is!" Iruka yelled.

"Tell me why you embarrassed me in front of Lady Tsunade!"

"Tell me why you think so little of me!"

"Explain to me how you think I'd botch the mission and get us all killed!"

Kakashi ran up to his Iruka pushing him up against the chalkboard and holding his wrists so he couldn't fight him off.

Iruka still struggled but eventually Kakashi pulled down his mask and pressed his lips to Iruka's. Slowly Iruka melted kissing his white haired lover back. The truth was he loved Kakashi with everything he had but he wasn't going to let him get away without an explanation.

Iruka pushed Kakashi away from himself and wiped his mouth.

"No! Explain Kakashi!"

Kakashi turned his head away from Iruka.

"It's bec-!"

"BOOM!"

Suddenly a thunderous explosion stopped their argument dead in its tracks. The building shook and you could hear screams in the distance and murmurs out in the street of people wondering the same thing. What was happening.

"What was that?!" Iruka asked wide eyed.

"I don't know but I better report to Lady Tsunade."

Kakashi turned to Iruka and looked into his chestnut eyes.

"Iruka stay hear and keep the children and civilians out of the fray. Please don't leave this area." Kakashi begged searching his lovers eyes.

"Why?! I should help like everyone else!"

"Please Iruka! Kakashi yelled gripping Iruka's shoulders.

"Ok! Ok..."

"I'll come back as soon as I can wait for me!"

Iruka nodded his head and Kakashi took off.

Iruka couldn't figure it out. How had they smashed through their defenses so easily?

As soon as he stepped outside he saw how bad it was. Many of the village's buildings were completely destroyed. There were wounded, fallen ninja and dead civilians everywhere.

There were more explosions all over the village. Plumes of smoke rose up into the noonday sky. There were fires all over, consuming what was left of some structures.

Whoever they were they were highly skilled. It seemed to be a very well coordinated attack in multiple parts of the village.

"Oh my God...!" Iruka gasped.

The destruction of his village was devastating. Never did he think he'd live to see his village suffer to this magnitude again.

Suddenly his fight with Kakashi seemed silly and childish. All Iruka could do was pray Kakashi would be alright.

Iruka stood in the street as people ran around panicked. He knew he promised Kakashi that he'd wait but his village needed him. Kakashi would do the same if he were in Iruka's position, he would understand.

With his mind at peace about breaking his promise, Iruka raced off at his full speed toward a cluster of buildings that were barely standing. From his vantage point on the rooftops of the remaining structures he could see a summoning beast. It looked like a centipede.

Whoever was down there might need his help. As soon as Iruka approached he saw a little girl and her grandmother huddled together. The centipede looming over them ready to attack them.

Iruka jumped to aide the two women. When suddenly Sakura delivered a death blow to the beast before he even made it close.

Iruka smiled. Oh how the new generation have grown. They were no longer children, but masters in their own right. They would get through this. All of them.

"Sakura! Are you alright?!"

"Ah! Iruka sensei! Yes, yes I'm fine."

"What's going on Iruka sensei?!"

"I don't know. It looks like someone has attacked the village! Don't worry though Kakashi has gone to inform Lady Tsunade!"

"Hurry Sakura get the the hospital! It's aready filling up with the wounded!"

"Un! Yes Iruka sensei! Be careful!"

"You too! Take care Sakura."

I turned with the small group I had gathered to help our comrades. It wasn't long before we found multiple people that needed help. Slowly our little group separated to help whoever we could. That's when I heard a scream.

"I'm going to go on ahead!"

"Ah! Yes Iruka!"

Iruka couldn't help but hope that Kakashi was ok. He wondered if he'd gone back to the school looking for him.

"He has to be ok..." Iruka whispered to himself.

Iruka did his best to shake his ominous thoughts. Kakashi was a very capable ninja, but whoever was attacking were just as formidable.

Suddenly Iruka heard moaning. He could see a fellow ninja lying in rubble amidst the smoke and ash just up ahead.

It looked as if the the rest of the building was about to explode. Iruka grabbed the ninja and jumped out of the way just as the building blew.

"Hey are you alright!"

Iruka suddenly felt a presence. He looked up at the figure startled. He hadn't heard anyone approach or felt his immense chakra until he was right up on him.

"Tell me where the nine tail Jinjuriki is, or I will kill you."

A man with spiky orange hair and many face piercing stood before him. He wore a black cloak with a red cloud pattern. Atkasuki! They were hunting Naruto!

Iruka never thought he'd be the one leaving Kakashi but there was no way he'd be able to take on this man, or escape him with his wounded comrade.

"Now tell me..."

"You're wasting your time! I'd never tell you!" Iruka hissed.

"Ah. I see. Then I have no use for you."

Iruka looked up to to the cold ripple patterned eyes that would soon take his life. This was not what he wanted but he was more than happy to die for his village and Naruto. Iruka smiled.

"Goodbye Kakshi my love" He whispered to himself.

Iruka waited for a blow that never came. He opened his eyes to see his white haired lover holding back the death strike. Even the Atkasuki member was surprised by Kakashi's ability to stop him.

"You create a loud diversion so you can hunt in the shadows huh?" Kakashi stated calmly.

"Kakashi!"

"Take that injured man and go. Leave this to me."

Iruka could tell by the pitch of his voice that Kakashi was in mission mode. Never the less he was there Iruka's white haired lover was still alive. Iruka's heart skipped a beat.

"Ah! Yes! Right away!"

Iruka took one last glance at his lover. This Atkasuki was no push over. His lover would be in a true battle possibly to the death. Iruka couldn't help but bite his lip as the pit of his stomach churned.

"Come home to me Kakashi don't leave me alone. Come home."
