Title: A Game So Dark
Chapter 2: The Knight and his Queen
Author Note: I'm back :) After a long hiatus I'm finally back and I apologize deeply for my long absence. I've been finishing up my junior and senior year of high school as well as personal matters. Hopefully I'll be able to update on a more regular basis as for this story I've really forgotten where I wanted to take this so if you have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated!
Clapping politely with the rest of the guests as Sebastian stepped out of the wardrobe unharmed Kagome's eyes darted towards the stairs, tempted to look for the Viscount. Eyeing the festivities as women flirted shamelessly and men smirked haughtily her mind was made up as she got to her feet a flute of champagne swaying precariously in her grip. Noticing one of the men, a rather handsome gentleman of noble rank, raking his gaze across her body a playful smile crossed her lips as she downed the champagne and placed it on a servants tray before licking the corner of her lips. Silently laughing as the man made an audible gulp Kagome smiled alluringly before turning to Satoshi who stood behind her stoically a bored expression adorning his features.
"I believe I wish to retire to my room for the night. Would you deny accompanying me there?" Kagome asked her eyes alight with mirth.
Staring down at his small lady Satoshi was tempted to decline her just to see her flustered reaction but simply held out his arm and escorted her across the room all too aware of the man who she had teased and the demon's eyes boring holes into them.
"You enjoy drawing attention to yourself," Satoshi muttered lowly as he guided her up the steps, the noisy party finally fading as the doors to the upper rooms shut behind them.
"I enjoy finding amusement to satiate myself for the time being...life gets dull when..." Kagome corrected only to fade off as her cerulean orbs glazed over past memories assaulting her. "Nevermind."
Sighing Satoshi didn't question her and instead led her in silence to her rooms. Having traveled with the miko for so long he was used to her mood swings but had observed she had become less playful with her antics and seemed to finally be slipping into her role. "I will be outside, call should you need anything."
Smiling tiredly Kagome nodded in agreement, "Hai..."
Closing the door behind her Kagome held back a sigh as she looked around the room the Viscount had provided for her stay. It was luxurious with only the finest silks on the bed and the most precious china decorating the room. Slipping off her heels she treaded to the full length mirror and glared at her stiff poised form with distaste.
"Who would have thought..."
Deftly unlacing her dress she let it pool to the ground and fingered the shift beneath it before pulling it over her head. Simply staring at her close to nude body Kagome's fingers traced along the numerous scars across her stomach and a small laugh bubbled from her lips before she stifled herself and began to move towards the closet only to stop as the door to her room was thrown open.
The young gentleman from earlier stood in her door frame his breaths ragged as his eyes went wide and slowly filmed over with lust. Used to being placed in such situations Kagome could only sigh unembarrassed for her lack of dress. Narrowing her eyes at him Kagome made to ignore him and hesitantly moved toward her clothing only for a hand to clench her wrist and draw her to the man's chest.
"When I first laid eyes on you I knew you were to be mine..." the man whispered hoarsely into her ear.
Distaste bubbled from the back of her throat as Kagome sneered and yanked her arm away before shoving the man back harshly. Watching with narrowed eyes as he stumbled over his feet. "Only a fool desires something he will never have. And a coward claims something which is not his."
Slowly deciphering her words as the petite woman pulled a shift on the man growled lowly frustrated and enraged at her dismissal of him. Stepping forward to engage her once more he was stopped by the firm grip on his shoulder.
"Sebastian..." Kagome muttered rolling her eyes as her shoulders relaxed and she continued to dress. Picking out a rather elaborate lace black dress she slipped it on and turned to face the smiling demon.
"My lady, how would you have me dispose of this cretin?" Sebastian asked a malicious look directed at the shaking man although his voice remained soft.
"However you see fit," Kagome responded turning away to lace up her dress.
Ignoring the sudden silence that suffocated the room she turned to face the demon now unaccompanied by the human male. Masking her emotions with an ease Sesshomaru had instilled in her Kagome turned away once more and allowed her back to face the English demon.
"Would you be kind enough to lace up the rest of my dress?" she asked.
Soundlessly Sebastian did as the woman asked and deftly laced her dress his long fingers tracing along her back as he worked. A small smile crept onto his face as he inhaled her scent, it was delicious...simply euphoric. Completing his task he drew back and allowed his smile to drop. "Already causing trouble koneko."
Raising a brow at the demon Kagome smiled indulgently. "I cause trouble wherever I go. A friend once told me I simply attract it in any form...yet I always seem fine; however, those who oppose me tend not to fare as well...a shame really."
The thinly veiled threat was not lost on Sebastian but even as the Lady Kagome's most trusted bodyguard appeared behind him he couldn't help as a lazy smile stretched across his features. "Of course my lady. Have a pleasant evening."
Watching the demon go Satoshi ignored the urge to skewer him as Kagome sat down on her bed her head tilted in an almost petulant manner. Crossing his arms he waited for her to speak almost blanching when she did.
"Waiting right outside, ne?" giggling softly Kagome eyed her guard with curious eyes before teasing him lightly. "Don't tell me you left your position because of pretty maid?"
Sighing Satoshi scratched the back of his head warily. "A drunk noblewoman..."
His deadpan expression caused a bright grin to light Kagome's usually cold expression. "I guess she didn't get lucky?" she asked innocently.
Almost cringing Satoshi finally rolled his eyes before bowing in apology. "Regardless, I shouldn't have left my post."
"I've taken care of myself long before you became my body guard Satoshi-kun," Kagome said softly as she turned to the mirror to fix her hair before smirking as her miko ki illuminated her fingertips. "I'm more then capable."
Grunting in response Satoshi left the room and closed the intricately carved door behind him. He had gotten used to her teasing but it still irked him to think she wouldn't mind him abandoning his position because of carnal desires. Eyeing the door once more Satoshi focused on the demon whose scent still lingered. He'd have to inform Sesshomaru.
Watching with boredom as Aleister Chambers carted away the young Master, Sebastian sunk into the shadows. Only his bloody eyes visible.
