Donna sighed, tapping her pen on the desk. There was nothing to do, no one to talk to. And of course, it was her birthday. A few people had said 'Happy Birthday!' and Gramps had been excited for her that morning, but Donna still felt down. She was another year older, and there was nothing to show for it. Still temping, no husband and no boyfriend. Donna sighed again, this time resting her head on her arms. It was going to be one of those days.

As she unenthusiastically went online window-shopping, Donna missed the messenger coming toward her. Only when he was directly in front of her did she look up.

"Who're you?" she asked. The messenger ignored her,

"You Donna Noble?"

"Yes."

"There are for you." The messenger leaned down to a cart Donna hadn't noticed and pulled up a gigantic vase of carnations. There had to be over two-dozen. Donna gasped and immediately began poking around for a card amongst the stems. Other people had started to gather around her desk and the messenger had left to avoid the crowd. Finding the card, Donna immediately tore open the small note,

"To the most important woman in the whole wide universe."

-Jack H and friend"

Jackā€¦ The name rang a bell, but Donna put it out of her mind. For the first time that day, Donna smiled.

Captain Jack Harkness stood in the corner, out of Donna's line of sight. He'd been worried that his face and his name would trigger her memory, but she was fine. He breathed a sigh of relief and leaned against the wall. The Doctor might eventually be mad he had chanced Donna's memory returning, but Jack thought it was worth the man's wrath if it made Donna smile. He replaced his hat and walked out of the building, smiling as he went. Donna was the most important woman in the whole wide universe, and he had made her smile.
