Last Stand
The fire comes, yet I still stand,
Between foe and my wards.
Another wave swoops down in fire,
To this world they come towards.
…
I face death, and it has no face,
But neither do I.
I float in place, I stand my ground,
Between the earth and sky.
…
There is no doubt, I'll stay my course,
The invaders see this too.
Their attack begins to falter,
I remain to see this through.
…
The foe did not foresee this,
Could not expect defeat.
The attack craft, they start to withdraw,
This world shall not feel their feet.
…
And not too soon, for I too must go,
My body's broken, battered.
Humanity, it still survives,
I tell myself that matters.
…
Some may call my last stand fate,
But at least they can live free.
But as my body comes to rest,
I call it destiny.
