A third eye is the mark of a sinner, someone who's committed an act so foul not even a demon would consider it. But that's not how the god-king thinks of it.

His eye is the sign of a promise.

After all, it's not his eye, not really. Taishakuten's eyes are a pale and cold silver, but the one in his forehead is bright gold.

It matches Ashura's eyes, not his.

Taishakuten was a vain man; he freely admitted it. He took great pride in his appearance. The thought of an extra eye had worried him for a while – not that it would have changed his decision – but the first time he saw his reflection after taking over, he had been pleasantly surprised by the new feature. That golden eye stared back at him, as if Ashura were watching him to make sure he kept his word. As if his lover had become a part of him.

Which, of course, he had. The other man was – is – part of him now, and always will be.

Taishakuten doesn't regret the act. Ashura is his. Completely. And one day, Taishakuten will be with him. They'll be together properly then.

To that end, the silver-haired general – he still doesn't think of himself as a king – has a promise to keep. He'll do whatever it takes to prevent destiny from taking its course.

That one vow is everything to him. It was the reason the man he loved put his trust in him. More than that, Ashura had responded to his feelings.

Nothing will stop the warrior from keeping his word. Not when that word is all he has left. Not with his lover watching over him forevermore.

A/N: A few color pictures show all three of Taishakuten's eyes as gold, but others do have the normal two as silver, and that's what inspired this little thing.

Edit: Changed a few things. Thanks to MsLyoness for your input!
