Chapter three
I yanked the suitcase up the stairs to our holiday apartment as Edward watched from above with an amused smirk plastered across his face. I wanted to smack it right off.
"You'd better hope there's no props when we get in." I growled pulling the handles hard enough to break them off.
He only laughed harder at my threat "You chose to take the stairs Bella." I flipped him off in response; he knows how much I hate lifts. When I was seven Charlie took me to the theatre to watch some film but we went into the wrong one. This one had a lift that snapped…with several people in. Since that day I've been too nervous to get into lifts, I've even walked up and down 24 flights when I've gone with Edward to interviews. He took the case from my shaky arms when I reached the landing and pecked me on the lips before I could turn my face away. I let him hold my hand with his free one and pull me towards the door.
The apartment was completely open plan minus the bathroom. The front door opened into the modern kitchen. On the other side of the breakfast bar was a sofa, coffee table and flat screen tv. My phone bleeped; telling me I'd connected to the wifi. All thought the walls we're a cream colour and pretty bare I didn't mind, it wasn't like we'd be in here much. Edward is on shoot most of the day and I will be on the beach soaking up the sun while I can. I may like Vampire literature but I sure as hell don't like being the colour of one.
"That is going to be a view when we wake up the morning." I gasped spying the balcony through the wall of windows. Our king size bed stood on a platform pointing towards said balcony. Dragging Edward up the little steps to the make shift bedroom, I could hear the smile in his little laugh.
"You're like a child at Christmas." The wall of windows were more a panel; you pressed a button they slid open according to the little sticker one of the glass panes. I didn't want to let the air con out so I kept them closed as we gazed across the bay before us. Lights from restaurants and clubs light up the streets before us as they melted into the black sea. Our apartment block was set on a slope just five minutes from bar street as it's known "In the morning," Edward murmured pulling me against his chest "If you look to the right you'll see Tomb of the Kings. It's some old empty tombs but I know you'll love them."
"I'm sure I can fit them in." I grinned making a mental note to get a map from somewhere when I get breakfast.
"Or you could leave it until the end of the week and we'll go together…"
I turned in his grip frowning "I thought you're on set all week?"
"I finish on Friday night." We didn't need a mirror to know our grins reflected the others. Slowly I pressed my lips to his.
"Saturday morning it is then."
"Bella." Hands shook me softly; patching up part of the suddenly burning streaks across the naked skin of my back. Blearily I opened my eyes to find Edward fully dressed in a suit and tie. Sunlight streamed around him like a golden halo. A soft snort left me; no Angel was going to be ay filming today. His left eyebrow rose slightly as I turned on my back to look at him.
"Why are you in a suit?"
"I'm going to work remember. This isn't a holiday for me." He chuckled getting off the bed and allowing a blanket of fire to slip over me. I dived to his side of the bed immediately but luckily he was there to catch me when my coordinates were a bit off "Are you safe to be left alone?" Edward carried me bridal style, still wrapped in the bed sheet, to the breakfast bar and set me down on one of the stools.
"I should be asking you the same thing." I scoffed taking a sip of water Edward poured for me "Edward seriously it's like 105 degrees out why are you so overdressed?"
"The shoots at Venus Beach, anything less is against their dress code. Plus it's cotton." He sipped his own water leaning back against the counter looking like a model for Armani. It made him look more mature but it was doing things to me it really shouldn't. Who doesn't like a man in a suit?
"Does the hotel actually know what you're filming there?"
"Of course they do Bella. We've rented two suites from them." He laughed putting our empty glasses in the dish washer "They said as long as we're fully dressed when filming in public they don't care."
"What are you filming in public?!" I gasped but he only laughed harder.
"Not what you're thinking dirty girl, it's just my character checking in and meeting Jessica."
My mood soured instantly at the mention of her name; I hated them working together with a passion. She was always all over him outside of shoots and on breaks. Apparently she 'forgets' he's married like I forget that time I tripped her up on a set; it took 45 minutes to rebuild it.
Edward rolled his eyes sensing my mood "She's going to beat me up for the rest of the day Bella. When I get home this suit will be in tatters and I'll need a bit of stress relief…" He moved around the bar to pull me against him.
"Hmm." I mumbled leaning up to kiss him as his phone bleeped signalling his car has arrived "Bring back a prop and I'll see how I'm feeling."
The sun beat down on me during the short walk to bar street. I was thankful that my Mother made me pack a higher factor sun cream in case. Don't get me wrong, I'm sick of being pale but lobster is a colour best left to said fish or my dad when he realised I was coming on this trip. Somewhere there is an effigy of him with a tribe worshiping it as their God of anger. His Man Cave, my old bedroom, over looks our drive way. Edward and I are pretty sure that since he found out about his career, my Father watches our every move from that room. The moment he saw suitcases being loaded into the car he was on our lawn with a gun. Honestly it was like a scene from one of the old war films Charlie watches. It took mom and me half an hour to get him to put it back in his holster. I thanked the lord no one saw him like that; he's the chief of police. In the end I convinced him to let us leave but I have to call him three times a day to prove I'm not ill.
"Full English breakfast young lady?" A white haired man asked as I walked down the strip. He stood outside Karalina's, one of the eateries I read up about before I came; it had amazing reviews.
"Sure why not." I grinned following him up the little path between the tables. Like the door to our balcony; the restaurant opened up the same way. Fans above cooled the humid air around me; I sighed contentedly as he sat me directly underneath one.
"What would you like?" Carlos, his tag read, asked with a big smile.
"Um Pepsi and a full English." I hadn't had one since our honeymoon in England two years ago.
"Coming right up." He said before taking the spare cutlery with him. I took the seat facing the road mainly to people watch but since it was still early no one was really around. A bus pulled up opposite just after KFC, it's writing indicated the journey was to Coral Bay. That was another town I'd read up about, apparently it has the best beach on this side of the Island. Pulling out my phone I typed the bus number and destination into my note pad ready for when I plan this week out.
Carlos placed my Pepsi in front of me before disappearing back to the front; waiting for some more potential customers. My drink was so cold condensation slid down the glass as I drank but I wasn't complaining.
I picked up your mail this morning Bells xxx My phone bleeped as mom text me
Anything interesting? I typed with one finger as my plate was put in front of me. The smell of bacon, sausage, fried egg, mushrooms and chopped tomatoes made my mouth water.
Lots of boxes addressed to Edward. Is that normal? Xxx
Yeah big companies are always sending Edward stuff. They hope he'll use it in one of the films xx
Oh ok I tried not to laugh as I shovelled the food into my mouth. Mom was still getting to grips with my husband's career. A big part of her loves it; but the mom in her worries. You have one or two letters but they don't seem urgent xxx
I bloody hoped not. I instructed my assistant Angela to deal with everything while I'm away but she'll call me if there's anything big. I doubt she'll have to though; Angela is almost as good as I am. I'm considering letting her be guest editor next month.
That's good anything else? Xxx
Well there is one….. it's an A4 envelope that says do not bend. It's addressed to Edward xxx
I frowned pushing the almost clean plate away from me. The only time Edward gets anything similar it's usually a contract which is signed delivery Did you have to sign for it? What's the return address? Xxx
No it was just lying there. The return address is here in Forks - 71 Spartan Ave Forks xxx
Tapping into the free WIFI, I Googled the address. I blinked when it came up and typed it in again getting the same results; Social and Health Services Department.
It's social service. It might be for the wrong person xxx
She text back almost immediately No it definitely says Mr Edward Cullen and has your address xxx I left ten euros on the table and headed to Venus Beach.
Don't worry about it mom I'll let Edward know. It's probably one of his charities xxx
