Ga Eul's POV
"Ga Eul, are you awake?" Yi Jung shook me softly.
I was awake, but I didn't want him to know I was. I kept my eyes shut and focused on taking even breaths. I peeked at him through my eyelashes and ever so slightly turned my head. His hands were behind his head and he was staring at the ceiling blankly.
"I can't believe we actually did it last night..." Yi Jung said, sighing.
"WHAT?!" I sat up and stared at him in horror. His angelic face broke out into a smile when he saw my reaction.
"Kidding," he laughed. "That's what you get for not waking up,"
"How did you know?" I pouted.
"Did you think I wouldn't see you look at me?" he pinched my cheek. "Get up, we're going out for breakfast,"
I rolled out of his massive bed and sat on the floor. I looked down at my clothes; at least he didn't change me into pajamas this time. I looked over at Yi Jung, who was buttoning up his signature white dress shirt. He noticed my gaze in the mirror and turned around to look at me.
"Aren't you going to get dressed?"
"These are the only clothes I have," I gestured to myself. I wouldn't fit in with my casual clothing, wherever he was taking me.
"Those are fine, unless you want to go shopping," he smiled. I shook my head quickly.
"Where are we going?" I asked. I stood up and walked over to him.
"Nowhere fancy or anything like that. You'll see," he pulled me into a rib-crushing hug.
~o-o~
"Jun Pyo sunbae's house isn't fancy?!" I glared at Yi Jung as we waited for someone to open the door for us.
"Is it?" he cocked his head to one side. I sighed.
Jan Di answered the door, looking angry. She silently gestured for us to come inside while many maids ran up to us to take our coats.
"Jan Di, what's wrong?" I asked.
"I was kidnapped while I was eating ramen and then I was chloroformed and forced to look all fancy!" she suddenly screamed. I jumped and took a few steps back. I heard Yi Jung stifle his laughter.
"Jun Pyo," Yi Jung called out. "Is that any way to treat your girlfriend?"
Jun Pyo ran down the stairs hurriedly, patting down his curls and fixing his cufflinks. He broke out into a grin when he saw Yi Jung.
"Don't scold me," Jun Pyo sunbae said. "Go to the dining area. There's a surprise."
Yi Jung took my hand and led me to the dining room. Ji Hoo sunbae was sitting at the end of the table, having a cheerful conversation with the beautiful girl across from him.
Yi Jung sunbae ran across the room to hug her from behind. She turned around and kissed his cheek. I frowned and tapped my foot impatiently.
"Oh, hello!" the former model turned to me. "I remember you!"
"Nice seeing you again!" I faked a smile.
You can't just kiss someone you're not even dating.
"Why are you here?" Yi Jung asked, still hugging her.
"Just..." she looked down. "Just to visit,"
Jun Pyo walked in, dragging Jan Di in along with him. She struggled against the brute force, but it was no use. We all laughed.
"Guys," Jun Pyo sunbae said. "I have an announcement to make."
Woo Bin sunbae burst through the door with Jae Kyung unnie.
"Jan Di is pregnant!" Woo Bin shouted.
Everyone gasped and silence followed.
"Aish! No! Shut up, Woo Bin!" Jun Pyo stomped his feet on the ground like a little boy. Jan Di frowned at Woo Bin.
"The real announcement is..." Jun Pyo said before getting on one knee.
"Geum Jan Di, will you marry me?" he took out a red velvet box and opened it, revealing an intricate diamond ring inside.
Again, everyone gasped and silence followed.
Jan Di looked around her, grabbed Jun Pyo's arm, and ran into another room.
"Will she say yes?" I whispered to myself.
They emerged, with Jan Di blushing furiously and a huge smile on Jun Pyo sunbae's face.
"She said yes!" he said.
We broke out into cheer and applause. The butlers and maids sang a congratulations song and I ran up to hug Jan Di.
~o-o~
Breakfast was set out on the table and the room was filled with lively chatter. I chewed my omelet slowly, imagining what it would feel like to be Jan Di.
"So, are you guys going to live here or are you going to find a new house?" Jae Kyung asked enthusiastically.
"What do you mean, find a new house?! There's enough room here already! Why do rich people waste so much money?!" Jan Di put down her fork.
"Because we have the money to waste," Jun Pyo chuckled.
"What about babies?! Are you going to have babies?" Seo Hyun asked.
"Noona, stop!" Jun Pyo blushed.
I stared down at my plate. Being engaged must be nice.
Yi Jung leaned over. "Ga Eul, what's wrong?"
"Nothing, why?" I looked up at him.
"Oh, you weren't eating or talking,"
"I guess I spaced out, sorry!" I smiled.
~o-o~
"Bye guys. See you soon!" Woo Bin said, walking out the door with Jae Kyung in tow. Ji Hoo and Seo Hyun left shortly after, and Yi Jung sunbae finally decided to leave.
"When's the wedding?" Yi Jung asked.
"As soon as possible," Jun Pyo beamed and looked down at Jan Di lovingly. She blushed.
My stomach twisted. I was having mixed emotions about the situation. What was wrong with me?
"Ga Eul," Yi Jung nudged me. "Let's go."
I gave Jan Di a quick hug and followed Yi Jung to his car. There was an awkward silence between us as he began driving. As I reached out to turn on the radio, he took my hand.
"W-what are you doing?" I looked down. He chuckled but did not say a word.
I thought about Jan DI and Jun Pyo's proposal again, and there was an indescribable feeling. I tried to identify my emotions? What was it? I sighed.
"What's wrong?" Yi Jung's voice brought me back to my senses.
"Nothing's wrong," I said. He furrowed his brows.
"You've been acting a bit odd since breakfast."
I shrugged and stared out the window. Everything was moving in such a quick blur that there was nothing for me to focus my attention on. Once again, my mind went back to Jan Di. I thought about her happiness, her wedding, her ring...
Jealousy. That's what it was.
I had never been jealous of Jan Di before, not when she got was on the news, when she got into a prestigious high school, and not even when she told me that there was a perfect chaebol who loved her. But at this moment, her proposal made me jealous. Jealous enough to the point where I could cry.
"Ow, ow! Ga Eul, stop clenching my hand so hard!" Sunbae let go of my hand.
"Mianheyo!" I apologized profusely.
"It's okay because it's you," he smiled.
~o-o~
Yi Jung sunbae pulled over. I stared at him, confused.
"Why are you dropping me off at my house?"
"Are you saying you want to be with me longer?" He winked.
"No!" I undid my seatbelt and got out of the car.
"You're just gonna go?" He frowned and tapped his cheek. I leaned back and gave him a quick kiss. "That's more like it," he said.
I grabbed my luggage from the trunk and closed the door. He drove off in a flash, as if he was running away. Was I just imagining? I shook my head and walked inside.
Nostalgia rushed over me as I entered my house. It had been a while since I was in my own home, with Yi Jung keeping me busy all the time. I put my bags down and flopped onto the couch. This past week's events got to me and I suddenly felt tired. I closed my eyes and felt myself dozing off to sleep.
"No!" I shouted at myself. It was still morning. I forced myself to get up and took all of my things to my bedroom. I hopped into the shower and felt myself relax as the hot water hit my skin.
"So sleepy," I mumbled. I finished up my shower and dried my hair quickly. I couldn't take it anymore and decided to take a nap. I could barely keep my eyes open as I shuffled over to my bed.
Bam.
~o-o~
Ji Hoo's POV
"Tell me why you're really here," I tapped Seo Hyun's arm. She turned to me and smiled softly.
"I told you already. I missed you." There was a sad gleam in her eyes. I knew she was lying, but I wanted to believe her. I wanted to think that she missed me.
"I know you're lying."
She stared at me in shock, then smiled again. She reached up and patted my head. I frowned.
"Cute little Ji Hoo," she giggled. She moved her hand down to my face and pinched my cheek. Her angelic smile melted my heart. I grabbed her wrist and brought her closer.
"You still think I'm cute little Ji Hoo?" I asked quietly. Her face turned serious.
"Ji Hoo, I—"
"I can change that." I pushed her into my bedroom.
~o-o~
"Sorry." I looked away. I tried to look at anything but her. If I looked at her right now, I was positive it would happen again.
"Ji Hoo." Seo Hyun wrapped more of the blanket around her and inched closer.
"Stay where you are. Don't come any closer."
"Can I tell you the real reason why I came?" she asked. I nodded, still looking away.
"I divorced."
I stayed silent and waited for her to continue.
"I came back because I missed you. Like I said, that's the real reason."
I turned to her. "I'm just your second choice?"
"N-no, I never said that."
"You divorced, so you decided to come running back to me, who hasn't loved anyone but you!" I sat up in bed.
"You loved Jan Di!" she shouted. "I know you did. At one point."
I clenched my jaw.
"But you're not my second choice." She said, putting her hand on my shoulder.
"I don't believe you."
"I've loved you all along. I'm sorry." She took her hand in mine. My heart wavered. I couldn't stay angry, even if she was lying. I wanted to drown myself in the fantasy that was too good to be true.
~o-o~
Ga Eul's POV
"Ga Eul!" Yi Jung shook me back and forth.
"Huh?" I rubbed my eyes. "Why are you here?"
"What happened? Are you hurt?"
"What are you talking about?" I frowned. He examined my body with his eyes and he put his hand on my forehead.
"Why did you faint?"
He patiently waited for an answer, but he could tell I was flabbergasted. He continued.
"I tried to call you to see if you wanted to get dinner, but you never called back or replied to my text messages. So I came here but you didn't answer. You forgot to lock the door again, but I thought it was a burglar or something so I came inside. I found you on the ground and I was so worried I thought I was going to—"
I interrupted his rapid speech with my laugh. He glared at me.
"What's so funny?"
"I don't think I fainted. I think I just couldn't make it to the bed because I was so sleepy." I yawned.
He closed his eyes and let out a breath of relief. When he opened them again, he looked angry. He hit the top of my head.
"Ow!"
"Stop being a baby and make sure you take care of yourself! I was worried!"
"I'm sorry!" I smiled.
"That didn't seem very sincere." Yi Jung tapped his lips expectantly.
I kissed him. "I'm sorry."
"Apology accepted."
I looked down at my knotted fingers shyly. As I stared at my fingers, I remembered the proposal. My shoulders slumped.
"What is it?" Sunbae asked worriedly. I shook my head.
"Well, let's go get dinner so you can cheer up," he helped me stand up from the floor.
"I'm not very hungry." I walked into the living room and sat on the couch. He sat next to my and gave me an exasperated look.
"What?"
"You're just acting a bit weird, that's all." He shrugged.
"I just said I'm not hungry."
"No, I mean before all this. You're being gloomy and distant."
I didn't say anything.
"Did I do something wrong?" he ran his hands through his hair.
"No, not at all! I just don't know." I sighed. "Sorry."
"What is it?"
"I don't know." I hit my head. "I feel like an idiot."
"Is it..." he trailed off.
"What?" My stomach churned. Was he going to bring up the topic I wanted to talk about?
"Is it that time of month?"
"No!" I made a face of disgust and crossed my arms. He chuckled.
"Just...whatever." I pouted.
~o-o~
"I swear I smell something burning."
Yi Jung sunbae looked over at me from the couch anxiously. I had offered to make him dinner, but he didn't seem very grateful. I glared at him and continued frying the vegetables. I could still feel his eyes on me.
"You need to quit worrying," I said, not looking up from the pan. "I'm capable of cooking good food. You liked the sandwich and smoothie I made you."
"W-what? No I didn't." Yi Jung cleared his throat. "It tasted weird."
"I'm sure it did."
I turned off the stove and set the vegetables aside. I strained the pasta and set it out onto two plates.
"Ga Eul!" Yi Jung shouted. "A fire!"
"What?!" I frantically looked around the kitchen.
"Kidding." He clenched his stomach and fell back onto the couch.
"So immature," I grumbled.
I mixed the vegetables into the bubbling sauce and stirred slowly. I thought about the proposal again. Was the topic even on his mind? Was I rushing things?
"When?"
"When what?" Yi Jung turned around.
"Huh?"
"You asked me when." He walked into the kitchen and leaned over the counter. I shook my head.
I was thinking out loud!
"I was talking to myself. I was just wondering when the sauce would be done."
Yi Jung peered into my face. "Well, I think it's done."
I pursed my lips and turned off the fire. I poured the sauce over the pasta and arranged everything nicely.
"Here you go!" I set the plate in front of him.
"Thanks," he smiled. "I'll eat well."
I watched him take the first bite and breathed a sigh of relief when he seemed satisfied.
~o-o~
Yi Jung's POV
The pasta was overcooked. The flavor of the celery masked the flavor of everything else. Who the hell puts celery in cream pasta? This whole dish was a train wreck.
"Do you like it?" Ga Eul's eyes were hopeful. I gulped.
"It's okay I guess. Better than what I expected."
"Really?"
I nodded. She smiled the brightest smile I had ever seen and I knew I had said the right thing. I just had to be careful from now on if she offered to cook me something. Ga Eul took a bite of her pasta and made a face, but smiled again.
"Sorry, it tastes terrible, doesn't it?" She bit her lip and looked down.
"What are you talking about? I like it," I lied. I held my breath and stuffed a large forkful into my mouth.
"Really?"
"Really. I don't know if your taste buds are weird or something, but I like this. "
"Thank you!" Ga Eul's bright smile returned to her face.
~o-o~
"I'll wash the dishes," I said. "You cooked, so I'll clean."
"It's fine, I can do it."
"How about we do it together?" I suggested.
~o-o~
I dried off the plates and forks carefully and put them in the rack. Ga Eul giggled.
"Why are you concentrating so hard? It's just drying." She gave me a cup to dry off.
"I'm making sure I get every spot."
"It's like..." she trailed off.
"It's like what?"
"It's like we're a married couple."
My hands stopped. Was she thinking about marriage? Is that the reason she's been acting weird?
"Why aren't you saying anything?" Ga Eul asked quietly.
I wasn't going to commit to anything. Was I?
"Sunbae?"
"Uh, yeah! It really is like we're married." I played it off coolly, hoping she would get the message. She didn't.
"I think...marrying you would be nice." she smiled to herself but then shook her head. "Sorry if I'm making you uncomfortable. I didn't mean anything by it."
"There, everything's dried off," I changed the subject. "Is there anything else for me to do?"
~o-o~
"Yoboseyo?" Jun Pyo answered sleepily.
"Rise and shine, let's meet up."
"I'm sleeping," he mumbled.
"I'm at your door, I'm coming in." I hung up.
I knocked and a maid instantly answered the door.
"Welcome, Young Master Yi Jung."
I went upstairs and burst into Jun Pyo's room. He was sprawled out on the bed, drooling. I flicked his forehead.
"Ya! Wake up!"
He opened his eyes and frowned.
"What the hell do you want?" he sat up and rubbed his forehead.
"We need to talk," I said.
Jun Pyo got out of bed and walked over to sit on the sofa. He motioned for me to sit down as well.
"What is it?" he asked. I could tell he was slightly annoyed.
"It's about your marriage."
His face lit up and he seemed eager to talk about Jan Di. I rolled my eyes and leaned back. I didn't know how to bring up the topic without seeming like I was too interested or involved.
"Why did you propose to her?"
The curly-haired imbecile gave me a funny look and replied, "Why wouldn't I? I wanted to marry her, so I proposed. What do you even mean?"
"No, I mean, what made you want to settle down for the rest of your life?"
"It's not like I'm going to find anyone else like her, and I don't have any plans to break up with her. I wanted to marry her and make it official." He said. It felt weird talking about marriage with him. He seemed so mature; it was out of character for him.
"I guess that makes sense," I shrugged.
"Let's talk about why you're really here," Jun Pyo leaned forward in his seat. "You're torn between marrying Ga Eul and your freedom."
"What?" I was taken aback. "How did you know?"
"I just know," Jun Pyo smirked. "You're not one to care about these types of things.
I ran my hands through my hair and sighed. There was too much to think about. I didn't want to marry her, but then again, I did.
"Just propose," Jun Pyo broke the silence. "There's no one else who would love you enough to put up with your cheating and all your damn lady drama."
"Shut the hell up," I mumbled.
Jun Pyo was right. Any other girl would have left me for good if I cheated or brought other girls while we were together. If anyone else knew about my past, they never would've trusted me. The only reason a girl would have stayed with me would be for the money. Did Ga Eul want money?
I shook my head. Ga Eul wasn't that type of girl. She had always refused many of my presents to her.
"Yi Jung," Jun Pyo said.
"What?"
"Just propose. You'll be happy, I promise. Even someone like you will be happy."
~o-o~
I sat in the plush café chair as I waited for Woo Bin to arrive. That idiot was always late.
"Hello sir, are you to order?" A waiter asked. I shook my head.
"I'm waiting on my friend, thank you though."
"Hey! Yi Jung!" Woo Bin walked up and took a seat in front of me.
"Two cappuccinos, please," I said to the waiter.
"What did you want to talk about?" Woo Bin leaned his head on his hand.
I was still a bit angry with him. Stealing my girl, showing it off, then throwing her away in an instant for someone he barely knew. I took a deep breath and put my feelings aside.
Woo Bin stared at me and took a deep breath too. I wondered if he was thinking similar thoughts.
"Jun Pyo's marriage," I said. "I think—"
"Yes, you should propose to Ga Eul," he cut me off. "No, I'm not proposing to Jae Kyung yet."
"How do all of you bitches know what I'm thinking?!" I shook my head in disbelief.
"You, talking about marriage? And a friend's marriage at that? No, that's not like you at all."
Woo Bin sat up straighter in his chair and sighed.
"Yi Jung, don't come to your friends for stuff like this. It's all up to you. You can't ask us what we think, or what you should do; we wouldn't know."
I just don't know if I want to be tied down," I looked away. "I know she wants to get married but I don't think I can."
"Woopdy fucking doo, So Yi Jung. Break her heart again." Woo Bin said sarcastically, clapping slowly.
I glared at him, but he ignored me. "Yo, you think you're some genius when it comes to girls, but you only care about yourself."
"Woo Bin, you need to sh—"
"No, listen," he cut me off again. "Do you like her a lot? Yes. Are you going to like anyone else? No. Should you propose? Not my place to say."
I stayed silent. Even Woo Bin was right.
"If I were you, I would. But that's just my opinion. It's up to you to decide, but if you don't, I think it's the wrong choice. Just saying." He sipped the cappuccino that the waiter put down in front of us.
~o-o~
"Ga Eul, we need to talk."
~o-o~
