Hey guys, sorry I haven't updated in forever but I had no idea what to do with this story and had no idea where to go with it. Anyways, here is the next chapter of The Delinquents set at the end of season 6 and the first episode of season 7!
Hayden looked up slowly, blood dripping down her face and mixing with the copious amount of sweat covering her body. She was shaking slightly, her entire body quivering with repressed rage and adrenaline. While she knew that everything around her was dark, she found that she could see surprisingly well, while everything seemed amplified: sounds, movements, expressions, everything around her seemed hyperactive. Her heart was beating so fast that her chest was moving with every beat and she could hear it in her ears.
She heard everything the deranged psycho in the red scarf was saying, Negan, to Rick; every syllable making Hayden want to do nothing more than strangle the man slowly in front of all his followers. She restrained, however, looking over at Maggie's sweaty, shaking body and then up at the sky, wishing that it would just be morning and the ominous darkness would be lifted.
"You are so gonna regret crossing me in a few minutes," The man told them, shaking his head and grinning. "You don't fuck with the new world order, you just don't, Rick. I think you might be stupid, so I'll just tell you what it is in case you still don't know. Pay attention, here goes. Give me your shit, or I will kill you."
Hayden suddenly felt the world around her coming to a stop, she couldn't hear anything anymore as her mind came to a blank, thoughts racing but she was unable to interpret any of it as Negan went on about how they owed him half of everything they had.
Blood from the cut in her forehead was running into her eyes, blinding her until she couldn't see a single thing, making her panic and begin to hyperventilate. Negan's speech was growing darker, veering away from the group owing him and turning to revenge.
"And for that, I'm gonna beat the holy hell outta one of you," He told them, continuing to pace in front of them. "We gotta figure out which of you gets the honor."
He came to a stop at Hayden, wiping the blood out of her eyes roughly. She blinked heavily, the world coming into focus once more as he moved on, her heart beating faster and faster as he continued in his speech. She was kneeling on the ground beside Glenn, and her heart nearly burst when Negan pointed Lucille at Maggie. Glenn lunged forward but he was brought down almost immediately by Dwight and dragged back in line.
Hayden shared a look with Daryl, his eyes filled with pain and hatred for the man torturing them. Negan moved on from Maggie though, but before Hayden could even register relief, he was standing in front of Carl, using him to taunt Rick and the others.
Hayden wished, not for the first time, that she had died alongside her father and brother back at Terminus. This time was different though, it wasn't due to an overwhelming feeling of depression or simply being tired of the horrible world they lived in, this time it was out of sheerly being down with everything, her brain was on overload and she wanted nothing more in the world than to just be sucked up so that she wouldn't have to see the pain and horror being inflicted in front of her.
She watched as Negan began to play eeny, meeny, miny, moe in front of her, tears leaking down her eyes as she watched Negan stop at Abraham, and she let out a strangled noise, halfway between a sob and a groan. Negan turned to look at her, her auburn hair covered in streaks of both her own blood and walkers' blood, dirt smeared on both her cheeks.
"Hush now, you pretty little thing," He told her, grinning at her all the while. "Make sure you don't move or I'll cut the boy's other eye out and feed it to dear old Rick. Dwight, hold her head and make sure she sees all of this, wouldn't want her to miss the show."
Hayden's knees went out then and she collapsed slightly on the ground, staring with wide eyes as Negan brought up the baseball bat, bringing it down on Abraham's head. She let out a load moan, averting her eyes as much as she could before Dwight pushed her head back to face Abraham and Negan. She could see Daryl out of the corner of her eye tensing, nostrils flaring and muscles tensing before she looked at Abraham again. All around him, blood covered the faces of members of the group as the top of his head appeared lumpy and misshapen, gore and brain matter falling over the sides of his head.
"Taking it like a champ, huh?" Negan commented, sounding impressed as he brought the blood-stained bat up once again.
"Suck my nuts," Abraham managed to spit out and Negan shook his head before bringing the bat down once again, Abraham falling into a heap on the ground in front of them. Screams of protest and horror filled Hayden's ears and she twisted her head away as far as she could, bile coming up her throat. She heard Negan beating down on Abraham's head until it sounded like just mush, nothing left.
Dwight released her head enough so that she could spit it up but he immediately grabbed her head and forced her to look at Abraham's bloody body as Negan kneeled in front of Rosita. She couldn't hear what the man was saying but Hayden watched with red, bloodshot eyes as he taunted the poor woman, waving the blood soaked bat in front of her.
Hayden let out a low noise of anguish and defeat when she saw Daryl spring up and move to attack Negan, his men bringing her uncle down immediately. She got up, once again kneeling on her knees as she watched Negan declare that Daryl was someone he wouldn't kill. Hayden felt such hatred for Daryl in that moment as Negan began to talk about having to 'shut that shit down' because they'd already had their freebie. She could understand why her uncle had done it but that didn't make it okay in her book, even though she knew that it was an action her father definitely would have done.
Her heart felt like it skipped a few beats as she watched Daryl get dragged back into line, Negan's men roughing him up every step of the way.
"Now I don't know what kind of lying assholes you guys have been dealing with, but that shit don't fly around here, no sir," Negan began to pace once again, fear turning Hayden's veins to ice. She hated the man completely, more than she had hated anyone since Terminus, and they had murdered and eaten hundreds of people including the brutal killings of her father and brother in front of her. "I'm a man of my word. I need you to know me. Now, Daryl, this pretty little thing is your blood, right? Yeah, she is, I know that already."
Daryl didn't even have time to react before he swung the bat, hitting Hayden square in the face. She let out a shocked scream, falling backwards onto her back. She sat up slowly, a dazed look on her face as blood ran down her face in a steady stream, coating her eyes completely.
"Daddy?" She whimpered, looking around slowly. Blood had covered her eyes completely, blinding her to the point in which she couldn't see a single thing. "Sean?"
He smiled smugly at Daryl who was staring with complete anguish and heartbreak. The last of his family, his blood was spilling out in a river in front of him. Negan swung the bat once again and she fell backwards, hitting her head roughly on the ground.
She felt the darkness enveloping her, the pain faded, and she felt herself letting go, as easy as it was to fall asleep. She smiled the best she could and she closed her mind off to the pain that was sure to come in the next blow, focusing instead on what she believed were the distant shapes of her father and Sean approaching steadily. And with the thought in her mind that she couldn't be in hell because Sean couldn't be in hell, Hayden Dixon finally let go of her grip on the world.
