Meet and Greet

Annabeth felt Percy's grip tighten as they entered through the glass doors into Athena Designs LLC.

When they were just inside the lobby he tugged her to a stop, "We should wait until you have the ring."

"No, I have had to face your office already; you aren't getting out of this. We will just tell them it is being custom made."

"But…"

"Percy, no."

Feigning hurt at being shut down, he stalked into the elevator. Laughing, Annabeth followed after him. She could have sworn she saw bright red hair peeking out of the stairwell, but she quickly dismissed the thought, hopping into the elevator just as the doors were closing.

Percy could hardly contain laughter as he witnessed the general astonishment from Annabeth's co-workers as they walked by holding hands. No questions about the ring were asked. In fact, they were too shocked to even pretend not to be looking, they just stared slack jawed and wide eyed. As the couple approached a door, a beautiful black haired girl ran forward. Unfortunately, her face was contorted with rage as she charged straight toward Annabeth.

"Annabeth Chase!" she squeaked.

Rolling her eyes Annabeth gestured into her what Percy assumed was her office, "Selena, head on in, we can talk there."

So this was Selena!

"How did Beckendorf get a girl like that?" Percy muttered.

Annabeth smacked his arm and followed Selena inside. Percy was about to join them when a teenage girl stepped in front of him.

"You look nothing like Luke did."

"I'm sorry?" Percy questioned confused.

"Luke. He was more of a rugged handsome, you're just incredibly hot!"

Percy fidgeted, unsure of who this young girl was, he struggled to respond, "Was Luke your old boyfriend?"

She laughed and looked at him with pity, "No, Annabeth's ex-fiancé. You didn't know?"

Percy stood, dumbfounded. Another fiancé? Several emotions rushed through him simultaneously. First was pure jealousy, closely followed by a fierce, protective instinct. If she wasn't married now, things probably didn't end well between them. Suddenly, he felt the need to learn everything about this Luke and make sure that he understood the consequences for messing with his girl.

"My girl?" Percy thought bitterly, "Did I just call her that? Clearly she chose him instead of me so he has more claim to her."

"Percy," Annabeth called in a sing-song voice that clearly meant trouble if he didn't do exactly what she asked, "Come in here, please."

Yanking his attention from Luke, he passed the young girl he had forgotten was in front of him and stumbled into the office.

Annabeth had tried to calm Selena down the best she could until she knew she would need a buffer and called out to Percy who had gotten left behind somehow. Now, as she watched him step into the room, she knew something was bothering him but she didn't have time to ask.

Selena, who had been grilling Annabeth about keeping the secret, snapped her attention to Percy as he walked into the room. With a glint in her eye she began playing both the good cop and the bad cop in an interrogation to uncover all of Percy's secrets.

Enjoying the experience, Annabeth sat back and learned random facts that she hadn't gotten to know about Percy. His favorite color? Blue. His favorite childhood pet? Blackjack, his horse. His favorite place to be? The beach at Montauk.

Finally, Annabeth pitied the poor man and stepped in, "Alright, Sel you had your fun. Can you give Thalia a call and ask her to meet me at home tonight at 6:00?"

Selena nodded, relinquishing her hold on the prisoner and leaving the room. Just when Annabeth thought she was gone, Selena popped her head back in smiling, "He is pretty special, Beth, I know why you kept him a secret."

Before Annabeth could do more than blink, she was gone.
