"They're gonna love you."
I glanced over at my left, into those golden eyes that have haunted my very dreams for so long. They were so kind and alluring, but so strong and protected at the same time. They really wanted me to believe the words that came out of the owners mouth. The same words that I've been trying to believe for hours now, since I've woken up.
"So you've said," I finally answered in a sigh. The escape of my breath made Jasper's fingers gently squeeze mine- so gently, I could almost barely feel it.
"Come on," he grinned over at me before releasing my hand. Before I could finish blinking, the passenger side door was opened and his hand was out, waiting for me grab it again. "Remember, you're not the only human meeting the family today."
I felt a small grin make its way onto my face at the thought of Bella. She had called me earlier on in the morning, once she was waiting for Edward to come back with his car after he spent the night with her-watching her sleep, she had said. "Aren't you the least bit nervous?" She had asked, after rambling about her and Edward's talk the night before. Of course I was nervous. I barely managed to get the breakfast Mom made for me down this morning. I just hoped my stomach wouldn't fail me and make a terrible scene in front of a room full of vampires that could hear a mouse sneeze.
I looked up at the beautiful house in front of me, with my mouth slightly opened in shock. "This isn't what I was expecting."
It seemed so much more open than I was really looking for. The wide windows at the front of the house made it look inviting- if there weren't so many trees around the house itself, I'd wonder how they ever got any privacy.
"What were you expecting?" Jasper chuckled quietly as he led us up the stairs to the front door. Getting closer to the windows, I could see that they were tinted just slightly enough where you couldn't see exactly what was inside the house, just slight blurs.
I never answered Jasper's question, and he never asked again, which was good because I wasn't sure I had an answer for him. I truly wasn't sure what I really expected when I was invited. Maybe some type of cliche dungeon, or a mansion with how much money they seem to have. Though the house was big, it wasn't flashy or in your face. It didn't shout that they were rich, just that they had good taste in architecture.
"Bella seems to ready be here," Jasper leaned down to my ear to whisper. I could tell that he started holding his breath as we walked up the stairs, where all the talking was coming from. I watched as Jasper's expressions became more guarded and secretive, than open and soft when he was with me.
"Does her scent bother you?" I whispered as softly as I could while we were walking over to his family. Even though, I was willing to bet that no matter how softly I whisper, they'll still be able to hear me.
Jasper didn't give me a vocal answer, he just sent a small smile in my direction, which I was going to take as he was okay- for now.
"Ah," I looked up at Edward's voice. "Hello, Chelsea." He gave me a polite smile, which I returned shortly after. Bella visibly relaxed when she turned around and saw me standing next to Jasper. I could tell that she was wary of him, I'm sure Edward has mentioned his difficulties. At my thoughts, Edward nodded his head.
"Chelsea, it's so nice to finally meet you," a bright smile and bright golden eyes stared at me from the entrance to the kitchen. I did a quick look around to notice that Alice and Jackson were the only ones absent from the kitchen. It quickly made me wonder where they were before I snapped my attention back to who I'm guessing is the mother of the household.
"Chelsea, this is my mother, Esme." Jasper slipped his hand on my back, pushing me forward a little before him, opening me up to greet the family. Even though, I wanted to sneak back around Jasper and grip his arm from my nerves, I smiled back at the kind-faced vampire and greeted her back.
"It's nice to finally meet you, too." I held out my hand for her to shake, which seemed to surprise her a little, but she shook my hand without breaking her smile. She reminded me of my mother, and how open and friendly she was. That thought alone made me relax slightly.
"You've given us an excuse to use the kitchen," Carlisle smiled from behind the kitchen counter. I barely even noticed that they were making food. I felt my stomach tighten up with nerves, but I won't be rude, especially since they seem so excited to be cooking.
"Bella already ate," Edward mentioned with almost a sour look. It wasn't exactly a rude look, almost embarrassed.
Before anyone could say anything else, a loud smash tore all of our attention away from Edward, onto Rosalie, with a broken bowl at her feet. "Great," she hissed under her breath.
I felt Jasper step closer to me, with a stern expression, and an almost rumble in his chest- warning Rosalie.
"It's just- I-I know you guys don't eat-" Bella tried explaining.
"Of course," Esme interrupted, "that was very thoughtful of you." She gave Bella a reassuring smile.
"Just ignore Rosalie, I do," Edward whispered down to Bella."
"Yes," Rosalie sneered. "Let's just all pretend that this isn't dangerous for all of us." At the end of her sentence, she glanced over at me, with an equally hard glare that she had looking at Bella and Edward. It didn't surprise me in the least, but that didn't mean I didn't grip Jasper's sleeve any tighter.
"We would never, ever tell anyone." Bella nodded towards me, including me in the deal.
"Yeah, well the problem is, you all are going pretty public now," Emmett mentioned, leaning up against the wall behind Rosalie.
"Emmett," Esme scoffed, in a disappointed way.
"No, they have the right to know," Rosalie argued. "This whole family will be implicated if this were to end badly."
I cleared my throat, "uh, badly as... we would become the meal."
Everyone but Rosalie gave out a small chuckle at my thought, she just kept her glare focused in on me. Jasper wrapped his arm around my shoulder loosely while Rosalie left the kitchen in an irritated mood, Emmett shrugging his shoulders as he followed after her.
"Hi, Bella, Chelsea," Alice greeted as she jumped in the window with a grand smile. She pulled both of us into a tight hug, awkwardly as Jasper's arm was still around my shoulders. "Oh, you do smell good!" She laughed looking over at Bella.
"Alice-" Edward shook his head.
"It's okay, we're all going to be great friends!" Alice smiled, gripping my hand with a laugh. I smiled back at her reassuringly.
Alice turned her head and looked at Jackson with a smile, "sorry about him, he's still new to our diet." She let go of my hand before walking over to Jackson, "it's okay, you won't hurt them."
"Yeah, I'm going to give you a tour," Edward said, making me laugh as he broke the awkward tension. He gripped Bella's hand before pulling her away from the kitchen.
"Would you like a quick tour?" Jasper asked, dropping his arm around my shoulder, to grip my hand.
I smiled up at him, "I would like that."
The house was a lot bigger inside than it looked like on the outside. The many rooms in the house were so beautifully decorated, it made me wonder who did all the architect. Jasper had shown me the study, and their big collection of books. The grand piano, which Jasper explained to me that it was mostly Edward's, as he was the one who did most of the playing. Which lead to me asking if he happened to play any instrument.
"I've lived 146 years, and you think I haven't learned an instrument?" He had laughed. I rolled my eyes at him before continuing on with the tour with his very vague answer.
It seemed like they collected a lot of possessions throughout the years, but everything was in immaculate condition. I laughed at the frame full of graduation caps at the top of the staircase, leading up to the rooms.
"Its a small joke, I guess," he tried to explain but I just shrugged him off.
"Its definitely an accomplishment," I nodded back.
He smiled shortly, "come on, I'll show you my room." He gripped my hand again, pulling me along down the hallway, naming different rooms as we passed them. We both waved to Edward and Bella as they were listening to some classical music in his room, before stopping in the room next to them.
He let go of my hand and waved, letting me know it was okay to open it up. I bit my lip as I wasn't sure what I was expecting before pushing the wooden door open.
The room wasn't big, it wasn't anything too special either, nothing too personable in the room that I could point out, nothing that screamed Jasper. The room was decorated with a white and black design. There was no bed, which surprised me, even though I know no one in this house slept. A long couch was placed in the corner of the room, next to a tall bookcase, and a table with opened books and notepads. The wall was replaced with a wide window, looking out into the forest behind the house. You could slightly see the river that was further in the forest.
There was a small collection of records in the other corner of the room. Most of which were rock and country records, something that seemed fitting for Jasper, since he grew up in the country. There was a door leading into what I assumed was his closet, and a small tv on the other side of the couch.
"It's not much, but..." Jasper shrugged as I looked around the room. Overall, it was simple, quiet, and secretive.
"It's very you," I gave him a smile as I looked through his collection of books. They seemed like they were mostly non-fiction, and I saw a select few that I've read before. I smirked as I grabbed one from the collection and turned around with it in my hand, "Romeo and Juliet?"
"Its not a terrible read," he defended with a matching smile. I laughed while I slipped the book back into place.
"Esme likes you, you know," he mentioned as he slipped past me and sat on the edge of his couch. I bit my lip as I turned my head to look at him. "I can feel your doubt, and you shouldn't. I would know."
I let out a breath before going to stand closer to him, "I've never been good at meeting parents."
"Hm," he hummed in thought, "you could have two heads and Esme would still love you," he joked, which made me let out a small laugh. "She's just been waiting for so long for me and Edward to find someone. She's thrilled that it finally happened. And I happen to agree with her." He grabbed my hands and pulled me to stand in between his legs while he glanced up at me from his position. "I've waited so long for you to come around." He pulled my hands up to his mouth and landed a soft kiss on the backside.
A sharp squeal made us both turn our head to look out the window. I smirked as I saw Bella gripping onto Edwards back from the trees before they flew up and onto a taller tree. It was nice seeing Edward not so worried all the time.
"Incoming!" A voice boomed before tackling Jasper onto the floor, the voice giving a booming laugh, while Jasper growled in warning.
Jasper managed to grip Emmett into a headlock before they quickly changed, too fast for my eyes to catch. A bell-like laughter sounded from the hallway as Alice skipped into the room to stand next to me. "This happens a lot more than you can imagine," she explained, but she didn't look bored of the continuous wrestling. I glanced over in the hallway to see Jackson and Rosalie looking into the room. Rosalie was staring blankly down at Emmett and Jasper's play-fight before making eye contact with me. Her blank stare quickly turned into a glare before she sneered and walked into the other direction.
A small hand grabbed my shoulder gently, "don't worry about her," Alice reassured. "She'll come around."
I had a hard time believing the pixie-like psychic.
