It was late afternoon and she had spent more than a few hours mindlessly walking around the house and checking in on Kori routinely. She couldn't deny she was nervous, one of asking Kori to be a part of their makeshift team and two of what would happen tomorrow. Her gut told her something would happen regarding her agreement with the shinigami but she worried over what that would be. What their first job would be.
Hopefully they would go easy on them, but they didn't seem like the types of people to be lenient on the newbies.
She stopped outside of her bedroom, having gone to check on Kori, the woman was nothing but tired but she couldn't help herself. Kori was the last thing holding her to her old normal life and she worried about her indefinitely, if she was gone everything she knew was too. Her life may have been rough and she may not have liked it but she never wanted to lose it completely.
She stood there in complete silence for a few minutes before feet pounding on the carpet reached her ears. Around the corner skidded Garfield, an excited grin on his face.
"Guess what? We've decided on a name for the team!" He slapped a hand over his mouth at the glare and in a considerably quieter voice whispered. "Teen Titans." He ran off before she could respond his voice rising in volume as he disappeared. With a groan and pinching of her brow she slowly and quietly entered her room.
It was dark, just a few slithers of light passing through the bottom of the curtain. Unlike before Kori was awake, looking at her phone absently and yawning.
"Hey, you're awake?"
"Yeah, I've been asleep for a while. Thank you friend for giving me your bed."
"Least I can do after everything I've dragged you into. Sorry Kor."
"That is what friends are for. I shall protect you as you protect me."
"That's true, you've always been protecting me haven't you? I owe you everything."
"And I owe you." They stayed silent for a few moments, both just sharing in the silence.
"Kor, I'm about to ask you something, and if you agree I'll owe you a hell of a lot more than you could ever owe me." She sat up straighter, confusion written across her face as she tried to tell if this was something good or not. Seeing her friends worried face she dived straight into a long explanation, waiting until she had told every detail she could remember before asking the question. "Richard and Garfield have agreed to help me, and while I'll completely get if you don't want to. Kor, would you like to join our team?"
"Friend, how do I put this. I am not strong or fast, or particularly skilled. I have no special abilities nor can I do anything but run away. But I would be honoured to assist you in any way. Whether that be as bait or just serving you drinks it would be my pleasure." A weight seemed to lift from Rachel's shoulders and she lunged forwards, wrapping her arms tightly around Kori's shoulders.
"Kor, you don't know how good it is to hear that from you. I promise I won't let anyone hurt you."
"That is okay friend. Now, I will be getting the up because I have spent far too long in this room." She stood, stretching before walking from the room with a smile on her face. Rachel couldn't deny that she was still nervous but she felt much happier with her best friend at her side.

Their first job came in the form of a scroll being deposited on the breakfast table while they were all eating. The old parchment hovered in the air, unfurling and landing in Richard's outstretched hands.
He read it aloud:
"We shall start you off easy, your job is to track and contain a man named Control Freak, he has an obsession with all things technological. I shall leave it to you how you deal with him." Turning the scroll around he showed them the image of a plump looking man grinning madly at the camera.
"That's the dude, he can't be hard. Just find a pizza restaurant and he'll be stuffin' his face."
"They did say they'd be starting us off easy. This could just be a way to test the group as a whole." Rachel offered, standing from the table quickly followed by the others.
"Whatever it is we can't take this lightly." Richard pulled a mask from his pocket, slapping it across his face. "Titan's let's do this."
As they left for their job, all kitted out in uniforms they'd handpicked Rachel could feel excitement welling in her chest. Though it wasn't what she'd anticipated for her life she couldn't deny that this felt right, it felt as if this is what she had been destined for.
She had lost almost everything from her previous life, but she couldn't feel the slightest bit sad about it. If she could, she'd choose this life every time.
This is the final chapter and I'd like to thank everyone who read and reviewed I really appreciated it. Happy Christmas everyone and have a great new year
