Disclaimer: I own nothing

Despite the fact that it was indeed getting quite dark out Hiccup had insisted on staying in the grotto a while longer. However, that one request had been drawn out longer and longer until eventually the dragon's petty whines about getting back to the house had triggered another pounding headache for the young Viking. These headaches had been labeled as "Toothless'-annoyance-magic" in the past few hours since Hiccup had no other explanation for how they simply appeared and disappeared as soon as the dragon stopped being such a pest.

"You do realize that before me you used to sleep outside every night right?" Hiccup reminded him with a look that clearly stated he had a point.

Toothless merely reached over with an unamused look to nip at the human's ear. "Ow! What was that for?" Hiccup complained, jerking back and cupping his ear in mock pain. To which the dragon rolled his eyes.

"Oh please don't be such a baby." he pulled the egg up higher on his lap so that it rested closer to his belly. "And yes I am quite aware of my nightly adventures. And daily sleep schedule." he said, reminding the boy that Nightfuries were for the most part nocturnal. It wasn't until he met Hiccup that the reptile's sleep pattern had adapted to be more in tune to his human's. "That isn't at all what I'm worried about though. I want to get the egg inside so that it won't freeze to death. I know you Vikings think that you're invincible but the egg is not." Toothless said with a haughty flick of his tail completely ruining the argument that only Vikings thought they were invincible. Obviously a certain dragon was just as arrogant.

"I thought that the egg stayed warm no matter what." Hiccup voiced his thoughts in a questioning tone. "Last I checked heat had been practically rolling off of it."

"No, definitely not. What you felt was probably the left over heat from those charred clothes that I made a nest for it from." The dragon explained, trying to find a way to fix his hair so that it wasn't all over his face however his claws were once again getting in the way and making tiny scratches all over his delicate scales. Hiccup took pity on the reptile and moved to kneel in front of him so that he could reach up and move the strands away with hands that were more soft and suitable for the task. Human hands of course.

"I can't believe you burned my clothes. That needs to be a new rule by the way, no burning things unless I say you can." he thought for a moment before wagging a finger at the egg. "And that goes for this guy as well. I don't need a bunch of dragons, or dragon-human hybrids, burning everything I own just because they feel like it!"

Toothless sniggered at the sight of his rider chastising not only him but also their yet to be hatched child also. "So you don't plan on just abandoning it once it's hatched?" he tried to clarify once and for all.

The Viking boy sighed, sitting back on the patch of grass behind him and letting the dragon moved closer without any protesting. "Well of course, I mean I'm not up for abandoning anything but if you mean will I be here to help raise it then yes. Regardless wether or not I will marry you, which is still technically a no despite what my eyes might say, we did both create this," he said reaching over to place a hand on the egg. "and I need to at least take responsibility for that action." he explained.

The night fury still seemed a bit crushed at knowing that his human did not at least want to admit to wanting to marry him but shrugged it off. Hopefully he at least still harbored the same feelings that the giant reptile did.

"I mean its not that I don't like you or anything I just…" Hiccup began stumbling for words at seeing the look on his dragon's face. He didn't want to hurt Toothless. By saying that he didn't want to marry the dragon he didn't mean that he didn't have feelings at all for Toothless, he only meant that he wasn't ready to get married to anyone as he thought he'd made perfectly clear before.

"I get it." Toothless said, holding up a clawed hand to stop him. "I mean, I only misunderstood right? Besides why would a human feel that way towards a dragon it would be weird wouldn't it?"

Although the Viking boy had to admit that his dragon did have a point in a few areas this wasn't really the case. "Quit putting words into my mouth and let me speak for a minute you bossy reptile." he told him with a frown to which Toothless could only blink in surprise at. "First of all, you didn't misunderstand me. I only meant that I want ready for marriage not that I don't and have never reciprocated your feelings toward me. Second, yes that might possibly be an odd notion but since when have either of us ever been the models for normality? Yeah, exactly don't give me that look." he leaned up nervously to loss his dragon on the cheek experimentally. "So stop thinking you know everything and let me explain next time." Hiccup finished off his little rant with more blushing and even less eye contact.

Toothless was beaming at that moment, too happy with the circumstances to even find a sassy comment to snap back with. He simply grinned at the Viking and nudged his shoulder with his nose affectionately. "I have honestly never really heard you just spill your guts about something like that." he teased.

Hiccup rolled his eyes in amusement and chuckled. "Well that's one way to ruin a mood." he reached up to ruffle the dragon's hair in a loving gesture.

"Oh shut up you love me too much to care." he reminded him, moving away briefly to stand with a yawn. Toothless reached out a hand to haul the boy up beside him. Next he placed thx egg back in the makeshift sling Hiccup had created so that his hands would be free to get them both out of the grotto and safely back home.

Hiccup said nothing in response to the comment aside from blushing more, causing the dragon to almost sworn at the sheer adorableness that his human was. "But don't worry now all we have to do is let your dad know about what's going on." He said, snapping the boy out of his happy thoughts and back to reality. Oops…

"Um…can we skip that and just keep all of this a secret for now because I really don't feel like planning my own funeral in the next few days." he said, cheeks draining of color instead of blushing this time.

Toothless simply chuckled with a shake of his head. "The longer we keep this a secret the angrier he'll be." he warned in a sing song voice.

Hiccup scoffed. "I'll take my chances and live a little longer."

A/N: Hi let's just say that I am terrible at updating and that junior year of high school SUCKS! Ugh, anyway sorry this chapter is more fluffy(ish) and serious business than what I promised. I just had to get past this little part and then I promise (no really I mean it this time ^^') that next chapter will go back to arachnophobic night furies and angry Viking fathers/soon to be grandfather's.

But until then (i also promise that I'll try and update sooner hahaha suuuure no really I promise! It's x-mas break anyway so I'll have the time) please review and tell me what you thought of this boring, tasteless, trying-to-and-sort-of-succeeding-to-get-rid-of-writers-block chapter. ^^' And if you'll excuse me I'm gonna go crawl in a hole and hibernate because this reptile is super tired…

(P.S. I shall try to make the next chapter a bit longer as well!)
