Hi everyone, I wanted to post this a lot earlier, to be precise I wanted to have it finished on my own birthday at the beginning of November but university life got in the way. I still hope you love this chapter.

1st Birthday

„Good morning, my little birthday boy," Mary cooed when Dean opened his eyes in the morning.

Quietly he lifted his arms to be picked up. Mary obliged and quickly had her son on the changing table and readied him for his big day.

John came into the nursery as well, "How is my big boy? You ready for the big day?"

Dean's head turned to his dad and he wriggled on the changing table and reached out for his daddy. John picked his son up as soon as Mary had finished dressing Dean. The one-year-old clapped his hands on John's two cheeks giggling happily.

When the small family arrived downstairs Dean curiously eyed all the colourful decorations. Mary and John had put balloons on Deans highchair, the plate and sippy cup stood on a tablecloth with a circus theme. John put his son into the chair and immediately the small boy grabbed the baby cutlery and used it as drumsticks on the table.

"Mu-ic," giggled the one-year-old.

"Mary I think this is the beginning of a new rock star," joked John.

"Sure, John." Mary smiled at her two men while getting cupcakes she had made in the evening out of the fridge.

She put one on John's and her table each before lighting the small candle on Dean's.

"Careful, Dean, the candle is hot. Can you blow it out?" Mary held the birthday cupcake in front of Dean, always making sure that the small boy couldn't grab the treat.

"Look Dean, you have to blow, look Mommy is showing you how to do it."

Patiently Mary got Dean to mimic her blowing and together they finally blew out the candle.

John applauded and placed a loud kiss on his son's left cheek while Mary planted one on his right cheek.

"There you go, Ace, such a big boy," said John and broke the cupcake in small bits so the one-yea old could eat it himself.

Soon after breakfast John and Mary took Dean into the living room and helped him open his presents. Dean soon got the concept of ripping the paper away from the boxes, he even managed to help opening the boxes and getting everything out. However, the toys were of little interest, the toddler was busy crawling in and out of one of the bigger boxes that had ended up on the floor the opening to the side. The parents watched happily as their son had his fun with the wrapping. Dean's game was simple, he would grab a piece of wrapping paper, toddle over to the big box, crawl inside and then started to rip the paper in smaller bits. As soon as he had finished on piece he would get another one.

John and Mary had taken a seat on the couch and watched while drinking a coffee. Since Dean was completely in his own world John and Mary only look occasionally over. It took two hours until Dean had powered himself out and John pointed grinning to the box for Mary to have a look. There in the middle of all the ripped up paper, Dean had fallen asleep his legs in the box the rest of him outside. The thumb of his left hand in his mouth while the right hand was firmly clutching his new stuffed dog, the only toy Dean had shown an interest in so far it seemed.
