New chapter! Sorry it took so long... read and review! Ideas welcome :)
The team sat nervously in the waiting room. Deeks and Sam were still stained with Kensi's blood. Callen paced the room wringing his hands thinking of all the things he could do to Jesse for revenge. Eric and Nell walked in looking worried and Hetty walked in behind them.
'What's happening in there?! The doctor won't tell us anything.' Callen exclaimed stopping his pacing.
'I'm afraid they haven't told me anything.' Hetty said taking a seat her feet only just reaching the ground.
Callen resumed his pacing and Deeks sighed in frustration. Nell hugged Eric who stiffened but put his arms around her to try and comfort the small analyst. Sam stood up.
'Let's go Deeks.' Sam said heading for the door.
'Go where?' Everyone said simultaneously
'To get cleaned up.' Sam said looking at Hetty who nodded. With her consent Deeks and Sam walked out.
The car ride was silent on the way to Sam's house. Deeks had his go-bag and they'd decided to just take one car and shower at Sam's.
They pulled into Sam's driveway to see that Michelle was home.
'Crap.' Sam muttered, he didn't want Michelle to worry.
As soon as Sam and Deeks stepped into the house Michelle was onto to them. She called to the her kids to go into their rooms for a minute and stood in the middle of the room, hands on her hips glaring at them.
'Why are you home so early? And what is that all over- is that blood!? That had better not be either of yours.' She demanded. Deeks shoved his bloodied into his pockets and looked at the ground.
'The shower is down that hall and to the right Deeks.' Michelle said he voice softening realizing that something was very wrong.
'Thanks.' Deeks flashed her a shaky smile and walked off.
'Sam? Whose blood is that? Where's Callen?' Michelle asked fearing that her husband's best friend was gone.
'Calm down Michelle, it isn't G's.' Michelle breathed a sigh of relief. 'It's Kensi's.' Sam said sitting down and putting his face in his hands.
'Sam? It's okay. It's going to be okay.' Michelle rubbed his back soothingly.
'Hey man, thanks for the shower.' Deeks came back in drying his hair with a towel.
'No worries.' Sam stood and walked past him. Deeks and Michelle sat down.
'Did you want to eat something?' Michelle asked.
Deeks shook his head, 'Thanks though.'
'Deeks, what happened?' Michelle asked.
'It was meant to be easy. Get in, get out assignment. Except Kensi was personally involved with the case. She used to go out with the guy we were targeting and we trusted that if we sent her back in undercover that he wouldn't hurt her. Just before we went to arrest him we found out there was a double agent on the LA team. Turns out he was on our case and tipped him off about Kensi. So he set up the shot for her, purposely missed the first one so he could finish her himself. But he missed and got her in the chest. We don't know how she's doing.' Deeks finished.
'She'll be doing fine. She's strong, she'll be back and complaining about desk duty before you know it.' Michelle promised.
'C'mon man we have to go.' Sam appeared holding his little girls hands. He kissed them each on the forehead and kissed his wife goodbye.
'Thanks Michelle.' Deeks said waving goodbye to Sam's daughters.
In the silent car Deeks' head was pounding with thoughts and accusations, he had to let them out.
'It was my fault.' He said into the silence.
'No Deeks, it's not. It was Jesse that fired the gun not you, you saved her life.' Sam reassured.
'If I'd just helped instead of grabbing Jesse then –'
'Then Jesse might have got away.' Sam interrupted. 'Deeks trust me this is far from your fault.'
'G. Callen?' A young nurse stuck her head inside the waiting room.
'Yeah?' Callen said just as Sam and Deeks walked back in.
'Kensi Blye's next of kin?' everyone shot him a questioning glance.
'That's me.' He said walking over to the nurse.
'We might want to talk in the hall.' She suggested shooting a peek over Callen's shoulder at the rest of the team. Callen shook his head.
'They're family of Kensi's.' The nurse nodded at him. 'She's out of surgery and she's in an induced coma. She's should wake up but her vitals aren't very strong, please don't get your hopes up. It was a well-aimed shot that was meant to nearly kill her, she's lucky to be alive at all.' She turned on her heel and started to walk out when Callen's voice stopped her. 'Can we go in?' He asked his tired and pleading eyes stopped her from asking him to wait just a little while longer and she nodded.
Callen walked into Kensi's room alone. 'Hey, hey Kens.' Callen smiled slightly and took her hand in his. 'I wish you would wake up, you're going to make it okay. C'mon Kens give me some sign. Please.' Callen had tears streaming down his face. He couldn't lose her, he didn't have anyone else. Callen stood up and kissed her forehead gently before walking out of the room and past the team the tears still coming and the nurse's words running through his head.
'Don't get your hopes up.'
Sam went to walk after Callen but it was Deeks who stopped him. 'Sam, leave him.' Sam nodded understanding what Deeks meant. Deeks walked alone into Kensi's room.
Deeks sat in the chair Callen had previously occupied. 'Fern? Kensilina, Princess? You know it would be super great if you woke up because I don't want to work with anyone else, I can't work with anyone else. You're the best partner I've ever had and I can't lose you. You've only been out for a couple of hours and everyone's going crazy. Eric and Nell are hugging, I think Callen was crying, Sam has no optimistic things to say and Hetty's, well we can't find her so that's nothing new. Please keep your promise. Remember? It's going to be okay.' Deeks squeezed Kensi's hand and walked away.
