{And if you're in love, then you are the lucky one,

'Cause most of us are bitter over someone.}

She stared down at her hand-or the lack thereof-and felt dread swallow her whole.

A certain kind of darkness latched itself to her heart as she numbly fumbled around, somewhat off guard. She searched the draws desperately, tripping over herself with each step. Unbeknownst to her, tears were currently trekking down her face.

Gloves. Gloves. She breathed in deeply, refusing to panic. She couldn't let Natsu know.

She refused to even think of that, shaking it from her head. Scavenging around, she turned drawers inside out, looking for a stupid pair of gloves.

Finding none, she grimaced. Brown eyes searching for an ulterior, fear began rumbling in her stomach.

She stared down at her arms, experimentally trying to pick up a rag she had thrown.

Surprise filled the blonde as the cloth seemed to float mid air, in the exact position it would be in for her hand.

What? Were her hands invisible?

No...no...

Yes?

"Lucy?" Said girl jumped, hearing the voice grow closer and closer. A knock on the door shot through her heart, the panic finally able to wiggle its way through.

"D-Don't come in!" Her voice caught as the nerves seeped through, tears pricking her eyes.

She rubbed her sleeve across her face, making sure there were no signs of tears left. Once that was secure, she reached into an unturned cabinet, drawing out a sock.

"Are you okay in there?" Natsu's voice floated once more to her ears, concern in his voice. He jiggled the doorknob, urging her to hurry up.

"I'm fine," She lied through her teeth, praying he'd buy it. Pulling the socks on over her missing limbs, she noticed they seemed to take form of her fingers.

What the-? She had no time to question it, Natsu bursting through the door.

"What's going on?" A hand was shielding his eyes for precaution, not wanting to walk in on her changing or something. She felt a pang in her heart, a weight falling onto her shoulders.

"I'm decent, Natsu." Her words nearly caught, emotion lashing through her.

He can't know. Calm down. The mature voice in her head repeated over and over again, the only thing that kept her from breaking down right then and there.

"Tell me what's up." His obsidian orbs met her chocolate ones, a certain stubbornness hidden in his eyes.

"I'm fi-"

"Cut the bullshit. It might work on others, but not me. Now what is wr-" His voice died out too fast, leaving her nervous. She stared him straight in the eye, tensing up instantly, only causing his eyes to narrow in suspicion.

Silently cursing herself, she watched as he walked slowly towards her, the agonizing silence ripping through them.

"What is this?" The pinkette stared down at her harshly, grabbing at the conspicuous pair of socks adorning her hands.

Lucy instantly pulled away, eyes dark. He froze in surprise, not expecting that reaction from her.

"It's nothing. Nothing." She was reassuring herself more than him, both of them could tell. She didn't dare meet his gaze, knowing there was nothing but truth in those eyes. She couldn't take the chance.

"Nothing? It looks like something to me." He caught her red handed, determined to get the honest truth from her.

Clenching her sock, she shook her head in dismay. "Just drop it, okay?"

"Drop the sock."

She turned upwards to give him a heavy glare, trying to convey her current agitation.

"I just wanted to make a sock puppet!" She suddenly brightened, coming up with a sudden excuse. "A sock puppet for Happy!" She giggled lightly, praying to the Gods he believed her act.

"...A sock puppet?" Natsu rose a very confused eyebrow, black eyes showing his confliction. He was just honestly concerned for her well being, only making her hate herself more.

"Yep! See?" She made an alligator mouth, thanking the strange magic that it at least left her with invisible (she presumed) hands and not just nubs.

"Oh...okay?" He answered, a very misty look in his eyes. He turned around and walked out of the room, the blonde trailing him with a sigh of relief.

He had dropped it.

But how long could she keep this up?

"Calm down."

"You don't understand...I can't calm down! It's gonna happen soon!"

"What is going to happen exactly?"

"She's going to vanish!"

"Uh huh."

"I'm serious Lisanna!"

"Mhmhm."

"Are you even listening now?"

"Hmmm yeah yeah."

"Lisanna!"

The younger sibling snapped around to stare at the older expectantly, blue eyes unamused.

"Yes Mira-nee I heard you, okay?" She huffed, adjusting her bookbag straps. "Look, I gotta go okay? See you later!" She scampered off as fast as she could, tired of the nonsense Mira continuously spouted.

Lucy, disappear? Ridiculous. That blonde wouldn't leave Natsu any time soon, no matter what.

She smiled wistfully at the thought, bustling down the hallways with her head in the clouds. She bumped a few people before finally reaching her destination: Chemistry class.

Maybe I can go back in the hallway...? She thought hopelessly, shoulders drooping as she shuffled forward. Waving politely at her partner she set her bag down, stretching her sore limbs.

"This education system requires way too many textbooks for us!" She complained, settling down on the stool.

Levy looked up from her book, eyebrow raised. "Some countries don't have any at all." She reminded, eyes focusing back onto the text. Lisanna sighed in response, knowing Levy would take the side of literature over her.

"I'm just saying. Do I really need three different textbooks for math?" She defended, pulling out her pencil. Levy hummed in reply, her eyes scanning the text at a fast speed.

Lisanna pouted at her obvious disinterest, cheek resting on knuckle. She scribbled aimlessly on her paper before class began with the ring of a bell, dread filling her at the thought of the periodic table.

She hated the periodic table.

"Juvia likes your gloves Love Rival!" The blue haired girl smiled widely at the blonde, her arms wrapped around a certain dark haired strippers arm.

"O-Oh, thank you!" Lucy beamed, trying not to blanch in alarm. She had been on edge all day, ever since...What could she say? Ever since her hands disappeared?

Sure.

"Why're you wearing gloves inside?" Gray spoke up with an eyebrow raised in suspicion. Lucy felt a cold sweat break out on the back of her neck, her body visibly tensing up.

"Hahaha Gray you're so funny!" She waved his question away as quick as possible, trying not to freak too much. He let her off the hook for once, though the confusion in his eyes remained.

"Gray-sama is mine!" Juvia hissed overprotectively, tightening her grip on her beloved's arm.

Gray yanked his arm subconsciously, only for Juvia to cry out in protest, snuggling into the now blushing boy.

Lucy couldn't help but smile and giggle like an idiot, the display in front of her causing her to melt. Poor Gray was then subjected to even further embarrassment when Natsu came barrelling through, laughing obnoxiously with a smug ass smile lightening up his lips, pointing cruelly at the two.

"Wow look who's whipped! Hahaha!" Natsu cackled, and Gray had no way to reply without shaking off Juvia. He hated letting this asshole have the last word, but the feeling of Juvia clinging to him for once was very...satisfying. Butterflies flew through his chest cavity all the way down to his stomach, a light blush spreading across his pale cheeks.

"Be quiet Natsu and leave them alone!" Lucy scolded the pinkette for Gray, who snickered when the boy's obsidian eyes widened in surprise and his mouth instantly snapped shut.

Natsu sent him a withering glare while he remained submissive to Lucy, who smiled and giggled at his obedience.

"Good boy!" She teased, patting his head softly. He turned to her, his bright eyes dimming with confusion.

"Why're you wearing gloves?"

The temperature dropped below freezing the instant those words left his mouth, and it was obvious he knew something was up.

"Lucy..."

"N-Nothing! It's nothing! Look, I gotta go...!" She twirled on her heel and skittered out of the perimeter the quickest she could, brown eyes filled with alarm. She couldn't let him find out.

She promised herself...she promised herself that she'd make him happy.

And this would most definitely not make him happy.

She clenched a hand to her chest, frustrated tears building in her eyes.

But it was not time to shed those.

No.

Because she knew where to go to get help.

She knew exactly who to go to.

"What do you want?" The girl sneered and tapped her foot impatiently, arms crossed.

"M-Mirajane...I know you don't like me but-"

"Like you?" The white haired girl scoffed, eyes rolling in complete annoyance.

Lucy grimaced, trying not to let the girl get to her. "I-I know you don't like me ... but I really need your help." She begged, brown eyes floating towards blue ones.

Mira rose a perfect eyebrow, caught off guard by the sudden surprise. "Help?" She questioned hesitantly, wondering what the blonde wanted exactly.

Without another word, Lucy brought her hand up into Mira's vision. Slowly, she pinched the fabric covering her index finger and pulled it up, releasing her small hand from the mitten.

Only for no hand to be there.

Mira couldn't hold in her surprise, gaping like a fish at the display in front of her. Lucy waited patiently, knowing it was more than a little to take in. Mira continued to try and comprehend what was going on exactly, eyebrows drawn together and head pounding.

"Lucy where...where are your hands?" She asked, voice strained. Lucy sighed and tears fought their way to break free, though she remained resilient.

"I don't know." She sobbed, looking utterly helpless. Without a second thought, Mira instantly opened her arms wide and took the girl into them, pulling her close.

She didn't care if she was supposed to hate this...thing. No matter what she was, she looked human. She cried like a human, and Mira hated tears.

She pulled back after a while of stroking Lucy's back to stare her in the eye, blue eyes solemn.

"It's starting," She whispered, the air around them beginning to crackle with tensity.

"What is?" Lucy was almost too scared to ask, trembling in the white haired girl's arms.

"Your disappearance." Her eyes hardened in closure, feeling absolutely sure.
