Chapter 12~ Deactivated

Kid Flash's POV

"I don't think we have another minute!" I reply, tumbling forward over a discarded robotic arm, Gar's unresponsive body rolling from my grasp. I roll with the impact, trying to get back on my feet but a black and orange shape blocks me, arm swinging down upon me.

My eyes slip close as I brace for impact but… it never came.

"Kid Flash!" Kaldur's voice calls and I open my eyes to find the robot collapsed in front of me, arm still outstretched. Slowly all of the other mechanical attackers sag and fall, parts scattering as they crashed to the subway ground.

"What did you do?" I slur slightly, head reeling from its collision with the ground as I stood up, M'Gann rushing over to Garfield.

"Nothing, the moment we showed up the attackers collapsed." Kal replies, moving to help a failing La'gaan before he face planted, the Atlantean looking greener than usual.

"Maybe Batgirl somehow hacked their sensors remotely." Mal replies, rushing over to Rocket and lifting a desized Karen from beside Conner.

"We can worry about how it happened after we get the injured back to the ship." Kaldur orders, setting La'gaan against to wall gently to sling Conner's arm around his neck and slowly lifting the Kryptonian up. "Static get Wondergirl, Kid Flash assist Robin and Beetle Lagoon Boy. Artemis and Zatanna I want the two of you to disassemble the rest of the automaton as a precaution. " We all do as instructed, M'gann already lifting up Garfield as Mal and Rocket stumble towards the subway exit. I rush to Robin's side, cringing at the boy's listless body, blood seeping from a cut on his head and red staining his side. Someone had tried really hard to kill this little bird. We quickly rush the injured back to the ship, Artemis and Zatanna setting upon the metal machines with relish as we went, setting our teammates down on the newly raised beds upon returning to the Bio-ship.

The small ship bustles with activity, everyone trying to help the injured, passing Batgirl the supplies as she was the most experienced in dealing with injuries and trying to wake the unconscious only succeeding with Conner and Cassie. M'gann moves to the helm of the ship, lifting her from the ground and directing the vehicle towards the Hall of Justice and those conscious gather at the front of the ship, excluding Cassie who was still dizzy and watching over the rest of the team.

"Hey thanks for the save BG, I thought we weren't gonna make it for a second there." I say as I sit, Artemis taking the seat next to me. The red headed bat looks up from where she had been fiddling with her glove, confusion written on her face.

"What are you talking about?"

"The robots. You deactivated them right?" She shakes her head, drawing her eyebrows together in confusion.

"No, I was trying to get it in but the system was ridiculously protected and had multiple firewalls, it would've taken me at least a few hours to get through it."

"It appears there was a malfunction then." Kaldur supplies. Barbara crosses her arms and glances out of the window, an unreadable expression on her face.

"Or we have someone else watching out for us."

Renegade's POV

My head snaps to the side with the blow, legs giving out as I crash to the ground once more, already broken wrist taking a brunt of the impact.

"What were you thinking?" Deathstroke's questions with a steely anger, single eye blazing with rage as he glares down at me. I make a move to get up but his foot swings forward and connects with my stomach, lifting me slightly as it sent me skidding towards to wall. He's there in an instant, seizing the front of my suit and slamming my back into the wall. My vision blinkers for a moment, an image of the man looming over me in the same way as rain fell in the forest around his, his hand at my throat. "Well," He snaps, shattering the image.

"I- I don't know." His eye narrows dangerously at the admission and he releases me, body falling to the ground.

"Failure will not be accepted again Renegade, it will make this punishment look like child's play." The mercenary says stiffly, disdain clear on his face as I haul myself to my feet. "To start strengthen the security on the attack bots, I do not want that female bat to be able to hack them again." I nod as he leaves, waiting until he was gone before rubbing my throat, head blazing with pain as I tried to remember the rest of that vision until the pain was too much. I groan, pushing it away once more and quickly making my way to the control center, various robotic parts scattered over the entirety of the room.

I take a seat at the large computer quickly logging in and accessing the database of the mechanical fighters. I spent the next hour enforcing the already impenetrable defenses, leaning back when I was finished. My mind was still racing with questions, why had I stopped, what was that glimpse of the woods, and most importantly why had I deactivated the attack bots in the first place?

"Renegade dinner shall be ready in ten minutes. Your master has requested you change before attending." Wintergreen calls, startling me out of my thoughts. I nod and send him a quick smile.

"Alright I just have to finish up here and then I'll change." The man nods stiffly and leaves as I turn back to the computer, fingers flying across the keys, implanting a small program into the coding that only I would be able to find again should I need to. The bell for dinner sounds and I shoot to my feet, rushing out of the room and towards my own to change, wondering on whether or not my suspicions really were true.

Hope everyone enjoyed it and had a wonderful holiday! Please leave some comments if you can, it'll help kick my butt into gear and write more and better (assuming you all did enjoy it, if not please do let me know!)
