Our Crazy Lives- Chapter 8
A/N: SORRY FOR THE LATE UPDATE GUYS. I'VE BEEN SO BUSY THIS YEAR BUT I PROMISE I'LL TRY TO UPDATE.
Gary's POV
Shit. Why did I do that? I shook my head as I walked into the house. Her expression popped into my head. She looked…disgusted.
Great. So much for the killer smile. I sighed to myself. Where did it all go wrong?
I flopped on the sofa along with Ash. He gave out a long sigh. I raised an eyebrow. "What's with the big sigh?"
He looked at the ceiling. "Eh. Just tired."
Paul grunted. "We haven't even done anything."
Ash just groaned and slammed his face into the couch pillow.
Drew looked at him strangely then looked at the clock. "It's already the afternoon, do you guys want to do anything?"
I ignored him and just looked at the ceiling. After that encounter with the girls at Cynthia's office, the atmosphere had been a bit tense. The walk home was awkward as no one mentioned anything about the girls.
"What happened?" I blurted out loud.
Drew looked at me. "What do you mean?"
"You know what I mean."
Drew looked stunned for a second then regained his cool composure. "Nothing. I don't remember."
Paul snorted.
Drew's eyebrows furrowed. "Are you saying you remember anything, Paul?"
"I didn't say anything."
The atmosphere became tense again.
"What happened?" I repeated again.
"Why don't you ask the girls? They probably remember crystal clear." Drew sneered.
Ash's face appeared from the cushion and looked straight into Drew's eyes. "You're a prick, you know that?"
There was a silence. I was shocked for a moment. Ash never insulted us. No matter what we did.
"Uh…Ashy-boy?"
He looked into my eyes. "You're the same." He stood up and trailed up the stairs and the slam of the door was heard.
"You shouldn't have brought it up." Drew said quietly.
"I never thought I would ever say this in my whole life, but Ash is right." Paul said, icily.
Drew glared at Paul. "Just because you and Ash still have feelings for those geeks doesn't mean you can lash out at us. You did it too. You didn't care. What's with the sudden change of attitude?"
Paul looked at him. "You're the worst." He stood up and left the house. I saw him through the window as he walked on the sidewalk.
Drew looked bewildered. "What the hell did I ever do?"
He glared at me. "Why the hell did you bring that up?" He looked at me strangely. "Do YOU have feeli-",
"No." I glared at him. "That's the stupidest thing I ever heard. Why would I like those losers when I could have the whole other population of women?"
Drew smirked. "That sounds like you." He shook his head. "Why those boys still like those nerds does not make any sense. Talk about no taste in women."
His words froze my mind for a second. He's right. I don't like Leaf. What the hell am I thinking about?
"Hello? Earth to Gary?"
I snapped out of my thoughts. "Oh. Right." I then looked at him and raised my eyebrows. "What about Dawn?"
"She's different."
He saw my suggestive look and pretended to puke. "Not like that you dick. That's incest."
"Uh-huh. She hates you too, you know."
Drew's expression turned a bit dejected but then he shook it off. "As long as she's okay, it's fine by me".
I rolled my eyes. "She's definitely not okay from the fact that we're living together."
"Well no duh. I broke her friend's heart then told her to fuck off after she got dumped by Paul." Drew stretched his legs out to the table and yawned.
I shook my head silently. I didn't expect much reaction from Drew. He was indifferent about girls. The only females he actually seemed to care about were his mom, Dawn, and some chick named Solidad.
It was actually Drew who started the whole thing that got us into the mess we are in now. That stupid bet that cost us the girls. Of course, my playboy persona made me feel obligated to not care. I knew Ash and Paul were pretty depressed after, but Paul was usually pretty grumpy so I suppose he hid it well. Ash was a complete mess until he finally snapped out of it. Out of all of us, Drew was the least affected. Heck, it didn't affect him at all. Like I said, indifferent towards girls.
I shook my head wildly. Why am I even thinking about this? I was so over this. I'm Gary Oak. The womanizer. I liked that title. Right?
"Are you okay, Gary?" Drew asked, raising his eyebrow.
"Uh-Uh, yeah. Just tired. I need to stay awake so we can party later, right?"
Drew looked at me sternly. "No way in hell am I going to another club. Yesterday was not a good night."
I slapped my head mentally. Dammit I shouldn't have brought that up especially with that horrible incident with Dawn.
"Um, yeah. Uh, so what do you want to do tonight? I don't think the girls are coming anytime soon." I looked out the window to the mansion next to ours and saw that the girls weren't outside anymore. Probably in those losers' house.
Drew shrugged. "Eh. I'm actually pretty tired. Paul needs to stop waking us up early. It bugs the crap out of me."
"Well then don't blame me if you oversleep." A deep voice said.
I turned my head and saw Paul coming in the house from the front door.
"How was the stroll?"
"Fine."
He walked over and sat himself on the nearby chair and looked at us. "Is Ash still upstairs?"
I nodded.
"Hm."
"So Paul, what do you want to do tonight?" Drew asked.
"I don't care."
"Well, then would you be okay if we went to another-"
"No."
"That's what I thought."
"Then why bother asking?"
"Just making sure."
"I thought you were smarter than that."
"I am"
I groaned mentally. Paul and Drew's word arguments were always long. I stood up and walked upstairs.
I walked down the hallway and stopped at Ash's door. I knocked.
He didn't respond. I knocked the door again. I heard a groan.
"What?"
"Can I come in?"
"Whatever."
I opened the door and stepped in. Ash was lying on his bed with his headphones on, looking at the ceiling.
"Hey."
He didn't turn and kept staring at the ceiling.
I sighed. "Look, I'm sorry for bringing that up. I know you're still not cool with it."
Ash's face turned towards me. "I know you."
I laughed nervously. "What are you talking about?"
He gazed at me. "Cut the bullshit Gary, I've been your best friend for years."
"Look, I really don't kno-"
"Leaf."
There was a silence.
"What?"
"Dammit Gary, why won't you admit it? I KNOW you. You're not the same anymore. I never brought it up since I knew you were gonna be upset but now, I just can't not tell you."
"Look Ash. This a misunderstanding. Whatever you're thinking, it's not it." I started to panic.
He perched his head on his hand and looked at me closely. "Whatever you say." He turned his head back towards the ceiling and sighed.
"Hey, Gary?"
"Yeah?"
"Do you think I'll ever be able to find her?"
I sat down on the ground and leaned my back on the ceiling. "Who?"
"You know, the one."
I chuckled. "Since when did you start having these romantic thoughts, Ashy boy?"
He shrugged. "For a long time. It's hard you know."
I raised my eyebrow. "To find a girl?"
"It's hard to replace someone."
It was silent in the room. I didn't say anything. I stood up.
"Look Ash. I know you have it hard with Misty here. But this isn't you. You need to snap out of it."
I started to head for the door. "Gary."
I looked back to see Ash putting his headphones back on and staring at the ceiling again.
"You need to snap out of it too."
I walked back downstairs where I saw Drew lying on the couch, browsing his phone. Paul was nowhere to be seen.
"Where's Paul?"
"Bedroom"
"I see."
I sat down on the chair opposite to Drew's and looked at the ceiling.
"So, decide on tonight's activity?"
Drew glanced over at me. "I guess we have no choice but to chill here, seeing as Ketchum got the blues and purple Hulk over there won't agree on anything."
"Look, Drew, maybe it's a good idea for them to cool off a bit, you know what I mean?"
He looked at me strangely. "Since when did you become the nice one?"
I gave him a look. "Seriously? It's not being nice. It's called, I don't want to create a fight, kapeesh?"
"Yeah, whatever."
Just then, we heard laughter. We turned around towards the windows and saw the girls coming out of the neighboring house, giggling amongst each other.
Drew rolled his eyes. "Typical girls"
I ignored him. My eyes wouldn't come off of one particular female with long brown hair.
Leaf had definitely changed, for the better. Her long hair blew in the soft breeze and at that moment I could only think of embracing her and telling her how sorry he was.
But it wasn't that simple. Out of the four girls, Leaf would be last one to forgive the boys. She was rebellious and fierce. He smiled. That was always one of her best qualities.
Drew looked at me strangely. "Why the hell are you being so creepy? Stop smiling like that".
I snapped out of my daze and glanced down at my watch.
"Hey, do you want to go the gym? I haven't worked out in days"
Drew contemplated for a few seconds. "Sure, why not? We don't have anything better to do."
"Cool, should I tell the others?"
"Yeah, working out might release that stress or whatever"
I walked up the stairs and entered Paul's room. "Hey, gym, get your clothes"
Paul raised his eyebrow but proceeded to reach under his bed to get out his duffel bag.
I then made my way over to Ash's room. He was still in bed, listening to music. I grabbed his headphones off his head. "Ashy-boy, let's go to the gym"
He looked at me. "No partying?"
"Ash, gym is not code name for party".
"Just making sure, can never know for sure with you."
I rolled my eyes, "Just get your stuff"
I walked out, went into my room and changed into my gym clothes and packed my bag with a towel and water bottle.
I went down the stairs to see the rest of the boys all changed and ready to go.
"Let's go" I grabbed Ash's and Drew's shoulders and lead them through the front door with Paul following.
We made our way to the school's gym and went our separate ways to do different workouts.
While I was jogging on the treadmill there was only girl on my mind and it was driving me insane. I bumped up the incline of the treadmill and the speed. I thought working out would help me get distracted, but it was actually doing the exact opposite.
"UGH" I yelled. I slammed the buttons of the treadmill and it came to a stop. People next to me looked at me strangely. I ignored them and hopped off the running machine. I went over to my duffel and pulled out my water bottle, taking big chugs of it.
I took out my towel and rubbed my sweat dripping face and looked around my surroundings. I need to distract myself.
I looked around, searching for one of the boys to talk to so I could take my mind off of things. Where are those boys?
Just then, a slim figure caught my attention. It was a slender girl with an amazing figure that was showing quite prominently through her tight workout clothes. Perfect. A girl to keep my mind off a girl. I made my way through the gym and tapped the girl's shoulder. I prepared my killer smile.
The girl turned around and when I saw her face, my smile started to vanish. The girl gave me an immediate scowl.
"What do you want, Oak".
"Oh, er, h-hi Leaf".
